hi guys, noob here .. nikon 1 j1 with 10-30mm good? how is the battery life for this. anybody using?
*
Whether a camera good or not is very subjective. It depends on the person, what and how the person will use the camera. Perhaps you share more about your usage for a camera and the people here will be able to help you out smile.gif

Oh yeah, please do state budget as well. Some people are just crazy tongue.gif

Any reason you have tendency towards Nikon or you're surveying all other brands together?

those are some really nice pictures!
but i've tried toying around(rampas away) with some friend's dslr, i find that after normal shooting (no hdr or wadnot stuff), when i compare two pictures from nikon and canon on the computer, i kinda like nikon quality more. Maybe it's just my lousy detail settings or what i guess  sweat.gif
*
When you view it on your monitor, did you calibrate your monitor colour or not? If doesn't, how do you judge Nikon giving more "natural" colour than others? tongue.gif

KTCY is right, colour can be manipulated. But I wouldn't say you're wrong too, because some professional photographers have said Nikon more "faithful" when it comes to colour biggrin.gif

Colour preference is subjective ma. You may like this colour scheme but maybe other people will look at it differently laugh.gif

QUOTE(cuteyuzikid @ Oct 23 2012, 12:01 PM)
Hahaha, I just realized after hearing so much input I almost forgot I'm just starting photography.
Between kitlenses then, I'm thinking of gettin the 18-200 instead of buying 18-55/55-200, for convenience sake.
Would the loss in detail affect much of my photo quality? Or owuld 18-105 be a perfect balance between the two instead?
*
If your budget allows, then you may opt to go for 18-200 straight away or if there's any shop that offer D5100 pairing with 18-105 as kit lens (I'm not sure if by default Nikon provides this package).

I would suggest you to know more about photography like the lens zoom and better still, the Exposure Triangle. You may not like what you achieved when you zoom into 200mm f/5.6 shooting in dim light and asking why the photo blurry etc. Yeah, it's indeed that you need a camera to start understanding the term, but perhaps you could seek your friend's guidance if they own DSLR themselves smile.gif

I had spoken with some friends and almost 80% of them changed their mind from getting DSLR into something more compact like M4/3 or high-end PnS after I shared with them about DSLR.

Both the kit lens 18-55 and 18-105 actually are very good and considerably sharp (unless you compare to pro lens), I once shoot weddings with 18-105 + flashgun only biggrin.gif

Or get a crop sensor body (e.g. D7000) and a 17-50mm f/2.8 Tammy. Still got spare change from his 24-70 fund, can get a prime also or a Flash Gun.

Couldn't agree more.

If you would have gotten the combo above, you already shot at least 10K of good photos while waiting for your FX body to arrive. It isn't that you'll be godlike in low-light when you got FX body to pair up with 2470, without flash still insufficient of light at most of the time in low-light condition.

Sorry ya if I poke you, I actually jeles you got 2470 sleep.gif tongue.gif

OMG! im in real dilemma now. resolution is not an issue. what i love about D700 dun have in D600 and vice versa.

i love the U1/U2 mode in D600 but i love the feel to hold D700 more. its more metal-like feel.

some say that holding a D600 feel like holding D90. is it true?  blink.gif

Go try out yourself instead of listening to people's feedbacks. This is very subjective depending on individual.

That should be either steadicam or flycam, my friend who shoots video uses that and he will turn off his VR! brows.gif
