QUOTE(dannygeni @ Oct 16 2012, 04:38 PM) normal travelling use..so dont need a dslr yet. need a handy one. not a pro photograper and budget around 1200-1400.. saw this j1 around my budget. J1 is one heck of a fun camera to use, i love the colors a lot and it's reliable. but if you pixel peep and always zoom 100% check for details, you're going to be disappointed - it doesn't resolve micro details like those high pixel count cameras, unless nikon coming out with sharper lens than they currently have (currently seems only the 30~110mm is consider very sharp). got my V1, the cute small flash really make a huge difference compare to the built in flash of my J1 (and the stock flash on OMD), very useful in small environment for bounce flash without being bulky, can stick the V1+kit lens+flash in the bag and still lightweight.
however, i couldn't believe my eyes when i start to notice most shots i took looked greenish, and upon comparing to my J1 side by side, bingo, as how CY put it - the hulk! strange thing is the EVF is much closer to the J1 in color cast maybe slightly more greenish, but the LCD is completely different, very noticeable green cast...sigh... i suspect my V1 stock is newer as it came with newer firmware, while my J1 came with the oldest firmware. don't tell me nikon is going to transform all cameras into hulk? at least include in-camera LCD tweaking and now i'm stuck with a hulk (not that it affect my shots, they look absolutely fine on my macbook, both J1/V1 taken same shot with AWB and looked identical)... =.= interesting thing is, when i go to the brightness setting, the grey chart seems to look fine on the V1, maybe just ever so slightly greenish, and now it makes the chart on J1 looked like it has magenta/reddish cast. QUOTE(Everdying @ Oct 30 2012, 06:08 PM) nikon before said in an email response that the green tint is correct, and that older LCDs had incorrect color cast making it look cooler than it should. maybe what nikon did was silently inject new color profile into newer batch cameras. i can't say i prefer the green tint more...strange thing is even in nikon 1 forum where there're lots of active members didn't even make a single noise about the LCD display cast vs the EVF. maybe people trust LCD more than EVF? i notice the OMD EVF also got strange color cast and sometimes so washed out that it looked dirty with *grey* tint. o.O QUOTE(Everdying @ Oct 30 2012, 06:08 PM) then ah OMD gg loh... |

QUOTE(Everdying @ Oct 30 2012, 06:19 PM) tho i wouldnt worry too much bout the lcd color cast...the newer nikon AWB is pretty good. dunno, at least i believe previewing and zooming using EVF to evaluate is much less convenient but useful under bright sunlight. so i can only imagine under normal situation previewing with LCD is the norm. maybe EVF just ain't so reliable for most people (wouldn't trust the color on OMD EVF either, to be frank).i would think ppl buy the V1 to use the EVF? so wont use the LCD so much? so after this u going to sell off ur J1? might keep the J1 for rough situation or video'ing during gigs to build profile, since 2nd hand value sudah gone. QUOTE(Everdying @ Oct 30 2012, 06:19 PM) tmr i think i might drop by mid valley see the nikon roadshow...see uf got V1 at the promo price there. the promo price is already official, everywhere selling RM1299 for kit lens and RM1899 for twin zoom lens. i probably won't be bothered with the nikon roadshow as the shop where i bought my J1 got *very* special price (more than RM200 off for twin lens), don't think they'll going to beat that? ...and again i hope i did not get a lemon, or i'll need to bug the nikon to fix the color profile in the firmware (if it's ever possible). lazy to take photo of the color tint difference, but found a site that shows the difference between the 2 color tone, pretty "accurate" matching what i saw in person (just that it doesn't look that washed out though)...
(hope direct link works) ![]() ![]() http://www.dcfever.com/news/readnews.php?id=5713 i've visited a lot of sites and watched lots of video and i'm seeing 2 different tint on the LCD, although it's risky to judge that way given that white balance setting on the camera used to take those photo/video play a role. i have a feeling that you just have to play the "display lottery" ala Apple products... |

ok, "sort of" confirm nikon did something to the new batch of LCD. found a report indicating the J2 has more yellow/green cast to the LCD than the J1...
still VERY surprised that no one talked about this! literary spent hours just to find this out and so far the ONLY one i've came across which is chinese based, i found none on the english based sites! (somehow the J1 display below looked worse than in real life, mine shows less magenta in real life, color processing problem i'm supposed) ![]() Lea & Perrins: http://dc.it168.com/a2012/0817/1386/000001386277_all.shtml This post has been edited by little ice: Oct 31 2012, 12:20 AM |

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Oct 31 2012, 10:03 AM) yup, because the tint on the J1 was exaggerated on that photo. much much less noticeable in real life.any V1 owner can do a quick check on their V1? to be frank i'm getting used to the cast but now whenever i use the EVF the color tone is different enough to annoy me, but if all V1 the same then there's no point to get a fix from Nikon. |
