Sony high end is not bad actually, I like EX 1000 and XBA-3, they sounds very good to me.
However I think this DAC/Amp is overpriced.

That thing looks like a military device. Neat. Why is it that they aim at Apple devices? So for non Apple things, we can only use it as an amp right?
Oh wait, someone at head-fi says that it also has the standard Sony connector dock, and USB connectivity for PC.

Sony Digital Amplifier S-Master http://www.sony.com.my/article/326451/sect...roduct/nwz-a846tak paham QUOTE Sony S-Master is a unique digital amplifier that accepts and clearly amplifies all digital signals without the need to convert them into analogue first. This is actually cheaper than the HP-P1....
The only other competitors are the VentureCraft GoDap.... which apparently has their own problems.
The CLAS costs almost as much without an amp...

I think the theory behind S-Master is that it amplifies the digital signal without converting it to analogue. In doing so, even after amplifying the signal, the 'purity' of the original signal is pretty much left intact, as a result of without having to go through a DAC circuit. I'm guessing that the sound can be very loud but with less distortion. Although I can be quite wrong in some bits, so do let me know. Wait, so is S-master a bit like how Sansa incorporates volume control in the CPU stage, by having the volume applied to the file before going through an analogue amp?
