Hi, i got an offer working as an electrical engineer in an oil refinery in Sg. The things is the position is not permanent position but renewable contract every year. Now, i am wondering if it is a good move into oil and gas industry. Where can i move to in case my contract is not renew after a year?

I don't understand what you mean by breaching the contract. Care to explain more? My concern is on job security as it is not a permanent position but the idea of working with Shxx in their oil refinery have keep me interested. smile.gif

If you are in the industry for 5 years and have built good network with client, vendors and what not. NOT USING your network to get what you want is plain moronic, stupid, dumb. There, I said it.

And if you are bitter about people who use whatever network that they cultivate in their career ... go far far away. You don't belong in the industry.

Permanent position as service engineer (vendor dealing with power product such as motor that start with A) vs contract position (operator that outsource a lot). What would it be? To be clear, chances of being converted as perma is dim for at least the next few year but doable. But pay is definitely on the downside for now sad.gif

Hi all otai otai, i am now attach to a vendor as a service engineer doing servicing job (CEMS and Gas/Liquid Analyzers) for all sort of industry include downstream petrochemical refinery. Our company also provide field instrument such as flow/temperature/pressure/level and valve instruments for oil and gas industry. Is it better for me to switch to handle field instrument servicing jobs if i want to stick to oil and gas industry? smile.gif

Hi guys, I am attach to vendors providing gas/liquid analyzer servicing and commissioning for CEMS for all sort of industry like refinery/power plant/cement plant etc. What are the chances for me to join upstream activity? I also have the chance to focus on doing gas chromatography. Will it help if I want to join operator?

Hi people,

Spoke to an O&G recruiter over the weekend. Is there anyone who can share some insights to an ROV operator's job scope? Seems like a pretty good career option now, provided that i can get funds for the certification/course.

Sg got course in this nov. Need $2+++ euro. I plan to go before but heard there is oversuppy right now and it take some year to land a rov job after completion of the course. Any taiko can comment on this?

Are you from O&G background before this? After some research, they did mention that experience/know-how in hydraulics, electrical, mechanical is an added advantage. As for the oversupply, let me ask around and see.

I am OnG background. More to analytical side smile.gif
