hey sifus, i've tried to search around, but i think dis may be d best place to ask.

i'm currently in my final year as an aerospace engineering student and i'm very interested in joining the oil n gas industries seeing as how my seniors n fellow family friends have "lured" me. They say it's d most monetarily rewarding with great benefits. I'm not lying when i say dat money is my main motivation right now.

So my question is, am i qualified to apply for a job in this industry? My cgpa is a tad short of 3.5 Here are the list of subjects i took as an undergrad. Perhaps it can help shed some light.

ENGINEERING LAB 1
COMPUTING SYSTEMS & PROGRAMMING
ELECTRIC CIRCUITS
INTRODUCTORY ECONOMICS FOR ENGINEERING
STATICS
ENGINEERING DRAWING
ENGINEERING CALCULUS I
OBJECT ORIENTED PROGRAMMING FOR ENGINEERS
ENGINEERING CALCULUS II
ENGINEERING LAB II
ELECTRONIC LAB
ELECTRONICS
DYNAMICS
COMPUTER AIDED DRAFTING
WORKSHOP TECHNOLOGY
AEROSPACE ENGINEERING LAB 1
THERMAL SCIENCES
FLUID MECHANICS
ENGINEERING MATERIALS
DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS AND LINEAR ALGEBRA
PRINCIPLES OF FLIGHT
RIGID BODY DYNAMICS
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING LAB
MECHANICS OF MATERIALS
MANUFACTURING PROCESSES
COMPUTATIONAL METHODS AND STATISTICS
AEROSPACE ENGINEERING LAB II
AERODYNAMICS I
AIRCRAFTS STRUCTURES I
SPACE MECHANICS
CONTROL SYSTEMS
COMPLEX ANALYSIS AND PART. DIFF. EQUATION
AERODYNAMICS II
AIRCRAFTS STRUCTURES II
FLIGHT DYNAMICS AND CONTROL
GAS DYNAMICS
AEROSPACE ENGINEERING LAB
EXPERIMENTAL AERODYNAMICS
DECISION SCIENCE
AIRCRAFT DESIGN
AEROSPACE PROPULSION
INSTRUMENTATION AND AVIONICS
COMPOSITE STRUCTURES
NONDESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION OF STRUCTURES
MACHINE DESIGN
AIRCRAFT DESIGN LABORATORY
SPACECRAFT DYNAMICS AND CONTROL
AEROSPACE ENGINEERING LAB

I'd also like to know how can i apply the knowledge from my course in the oil and gas industry? When we graduate, we'll be granted bachelors of mechanical(aerospace) engineering.

Hope u guys can help me out. Sorry if i dont provide enough info. THANK YOU!

depend's on the post,if u are applying for a field engineer position, nobody actually cares about what engineering background that u have.

if u are applying for any position which has some relation to mechanical engineering such as drilling engineer I believe u would still stand a chance.

i see. i wonder wut to answer if i'm asked how does my course relate to oil and gas. a friend of mine said since i'm took aerospace propulsion (which also teaches turbomachinery), then dats a gud starting answer as those drill heads are driven by turboshaft, so i can b of use somehow.

Was placed under this segment back then in the last stage of interview with SLB. I failed. Where else can I give a try aside from baker, halli, gyrodata? (all applied)
My bestfriend is a mech-aero graduate from UTM. Now working with RWP. Not in mechanical though. Graduate liason engineer.
Btw, some readings (but in Indonesian) I've found.  http://www.kaskus.co.id/showthread.php?t=5029807

Thermal science is the only related here (gas dynamics maybe related). In O&G industry, piping knowledge is added an advantage. Obviously you will start from zero. Be patient and learn slowly while dont put pressure on yourself. If you get O&G job, You will have to read a lot of books about piping while you will regret that why you do not take engineering mechanical (pure without specific field) or petroleum engineering. Obviously other subjects you listed above just wasted of time. Since your CGPA is high, you will get the interview. But to believe, O&G is very hard for you unless the company will send you to training. If it is on job training, I believe you will resign in 1 month or less. rclxub.gif

Why is dat so eh?
