i am a non-engineering graduate, working in SHE related position in manufacturing/research laboratory environment for 3 years, then plan to take Master in SHE Engineering.

Upon finishing the MEng, will i be considered as fresh grad in SHE O&G when applying position in O&G and has to compete with other fresh engineering grads applying for SHE position also?

Is it feasible to pursue this Masters in SHE route as a ticket to enter O&G industry?

Need advice from veteran here. thanks.

Hi, I have a friends currently working as HSE in Petronas. Before this, he has pursue his master as environment engineer, so basically after he graduate he is act a fresh grad but with much higeher salary due to his master. With master actually is much easier to get an HSE position because master of course, is much more higher than degree right?? my friend now is so damn rich and he only applied for petronas online. and he got that job easily..

What first degree does your friend have? Maybe he got work experience before applying to Petronas, which will of course make him very sellable..

He take biotech as his degree...then pursuing as master in environment engineering..now the head of HSE team in petronas..

Hi everyone, gong hei fat choi,

want to ask opinion from you guys on my job offer
now I am working as a mechanical engineer at Melaka Refinery (Pet), has been about 3 months since graduation and I just got offer of Drilling Consultant post from Halliburton Landmark service. The new offer states I wont be going to offshore, but majority of the time will be travelling around asia pacific.

What you guys think? Which one has better future?
*
Ok bro, for me its better you go to halliburton, because of the work environment, petronas is a local company, so the welfare are sometimes not good plus sometimes there will be problem due to our political issue that will involve petronas of course, compare to halliburton which is a multinational company. Next reason, you will do drilling maa!! in O n G, drilling engineer is the highest pay!! But seriously, I think better halliburton..because halliburton not so client compare to pet that is client..damn! I can list many benefits for you if u go to halliburton. But I damn lazy to type..so jeles with u!! I cant hardly get any big2 company..aish!

need everyone's help. firstly, i've finished my undergraduate studies in mechanical engineering degree in january 2013. cgpa just 3.0 and only apply job for o&g because 'high pay and increment they said'. but what happened to me is:

1st offer as management trainee at CARIMIN only RM1.8k but 4 years bonded
2nd offer as qc inspector at OMS oilfield services only RM1.5k
3rd offer as junior project engineer at RWNA only RM1.8k

hr said i can start working immediately if i want but i think its underpaid. i'm still considering since this is my 1st job. so need everyone's help here. should i accept or wait another offer and intrvw? or 1.8k is normal for fresh grad with degree? or try other industry?
*
OK Bro, this is my opinion, U need to think what u want to be in ur next 10 years, I'll always advice fresh grad to think further, not think about the basic salary. CARIMIN got bond, so better not to take laa..2nd offer, if u want to become a freelance qc inspector, then this is a good opportunity, but make sure the compny will give the inspector cert, like CSWIP 3.1 or NDT cert. If u got this cert and bosiet, u can earn freelance pay, minimum 300 per day. But make sure they give u the cert. 3rd offer, RWNA, ive done some projects with them, they famous for pipeline inspection and also hot tapping, usually involve pipeline laa..RWNA quite ok laa, if u like to become a project engineer, usually project engineer got site elaun, so i think if add up you can get around rm2200..But provided if u have project, but usually RWNA got project from petronas laa..at least small project.. I advice if you havent got any job, better you juz choose one, but at d same time while working, u apply other company also as fresh grad..like I do now..haha

hey guys..

lets say im presented a chance to switch from mechanical (rotary equipment) to HSE.. do u think it is recommended in terms of marketability 8-10 years down the road?
*
Well its depend on your passion actually, If you love rotating, then its really a good opportunity, cause its really rare to find a rotating specialist nowadays, many prefer static equipment cause the theoretical is much easier and with static knowledge its easier to be promoted. HSE, if you dont want to stress your life with any designing or technical knowledge. then go for it. But in the end what you want to be? people respect you in term of technical and engineering knowledge or people are force to respect you because you have the ability to expel people from plant?

Haha..reading this thread shows many people thinking that oil and gas got big bucks..Honestly in any industry to get a higher pay u must work hard, no matter where you start, as long as you can proved that you are worth the money, u got wut u deserve for..Dont expect you can get higher paid once you graduate, there always an easier or a hard way to gain your experties..be humble, always learn and always think about your future, not for the money, but for the knowledge that you will gain in the next 10 years or more..and I always hold my senior quote.."love your job but not your company, u'll never know when your compny will stop loving you back"
