Lucky him. I would do the same if i cannot 'tahan' u as my senior... wink.gif

Anyway, is Bumi Armada a good place to start a career? Is there any loyalty benefits for employee who works> 3 years? You shd understand what gen Y expects in term of climbing a career ladder; we are eager.. And cannot go slow...

I'm the most charming u know.. 😄😄😄

You will be rewarded base on your proven deliverables.. Gen-Y always forget about their market value in the industry, don't rated yourself high if you are not 'talented enough'..

Bumi Armada is a good place to start, example: 6 years with the company we have successful delivered our work for 6 FPSOs.. Now going for 7th..

Talent is very subjective i'd say...
We value ourselves highly, and the eagerness is something that the older gens failed to take advantage of... We won't rate ourselves as 'office boy'... No offence abgkik.. wink.gif

As a Gen Y myself, I think Gen Y are generally thinking too highly of themselves. They want everything fast. Some fresh graduates I know talked about becoming a manager in 5 years. laugh.gif Confidence is good to have, but overconfidence? Meh.

Everyone can say how eager/ ambitious/ passionate he or she is during the interview, but whether they deliver what they promise is another thing. When you have nothing much to offer - i.e. good track record, a min 5 years of working experience and knowledge.. sorry lah whistling.gif

My friend HSE at MMHE just told me this morning, it was Shell tech, not MMHE (but see who will come out with report, either Shell, MISC or MMHE, haha)

This discussion about baby boomers vs Gen-X vs Gen-Y also happened at my place. But then, I quite agree with klein, some of Gen-Y "thinking too highly of themselves". Nowadays, "jump ship" is normal but most Gen-X cannot accept this as their prone to work at same workplace till retired (if the workplace provide you with good benefits).

I guess competition is quite high out there and we Gen Y are in for a fight. The workplace shouldn't be a place for complacent pals... Gen X and baby-boomers should take this positively as we are not kids anymore, give us some responsibility and we shall deliver to your expectations... We are open to criticism and we are also free to express our opinions regardless of how old you are...

So now, who want to take me in their company? wink.gif

He was a technician working under manpower supply contract for Shell CSU team. I know his name and I know that he has 3 children.. The youngest is a 7 months old girl.
It is very sad indeed. shell/misc/mmhe are still investigating the incident and are still waiting for the full report.

Hi everyone. I just want to share some insight from people in 0&G here..

Last week I consulted my uncle who works for Newfield. Among the points that he told me is;

1. Staying in one company for long period is not very good in terms of monetary aspect. He used to work for Fortune 100 Company. During that time he enjoyed around more or less a hundred increment per year. At the early stage of his career, he hesitated to jump company. But when he started to jump companies, he enjoyed more or less a double of his last salary slip.

2. Working in O&G has its disadvantages too. Most people only talk about the challenges, good money that can be received from O&G. He pointed out to me that in O&G, besides the extra pressure (every jobs has its pressure, but sure in O&G you must expect much more), working in this field also expose us to hazards and dangers. For example, in his first two platforms, the production starts to produce along dangerous material such as cyanides and others. He observed that as the production run, the more dangerous the working environment become. At one stage, they were only required to wear protection clothes Level 1, and it increased to Level 2, Level 3 and so on..

He remembered one occasion where he met one of the chemist in his platform. He noticed that he has wall eye (mata juling). The chemist did not even notice that he has it. He claimed that he is normal.. 15 years ago.

and lastly, for fresh graduates like me .. he said that, try your luck with reputable and big companies first as they usually have proper procedures to recruiting. For small and some medium, large companies, they rely heavily on connection - in other words, cables. wink.gif

One of the challenges in o&G is.. securing an interview. Good luck to me. LOL. biggrin.gif

I think you mean Hydrogen Sulfide, instead of Cyanides. i havent heard of cyanide problems on the platforms.
..and the guy's amblyopia may not be caused by working offshore or with chemicals. haha
but good warning because, im sure there are like a 1000 other things the chemicals can do to you out here.

Goodluck with the hunt!
