I found a full tower casing for a super deal of only rm50! There was sum water damage of sum sort. The shop owner doesn't even know how it happened. I reckon a rat got into the case n made a nest in the case n pissed all over the insides hence the rust on the bottom panel n HDD cage. I cudn care less, it only cost 50 n I reckon that's 1 heck of a deal for a full tower case. It even has removable HDD cage n mobo tray.

Here's what I did 2day. Stripped it all apart for cleaning n modding.

Here's the water damage I was tokin bout. Gonna sand it down n paint it later.

Cut a 120mm top blowhole for my radiator.

Slowly n accurately cut with a Jigsaw. Much experience n practice is needed to cut it so nice n round with a jigsaw. Can c the jigsaw in the pic. It's actually much easier to cut using holesaw but I cant find a 120mm holesaw so just be really patient n careful with the jigsaw.

Spraypainting?
*
Spraying it myself with black aerosol paint. Gonna haf a nice shiny mirror look coz I'm currently stripping the crappy white speckle paint of the panels coz if I spray over it it's gonna come out with orange peel finish which is damn ugly. The internals will be sprayed either matt black or silver.

Using a cheapskate rm50 jigsaw that I bought from Macro. Drill oso rm50. All my equipment is rm50. Whahahaha. That's y my project name is Cheapskate.

Actually I better point out that the drill bits n saw blades I use r good stuff. The saw n drill dont really matter but u need good quality blades n bits for nice cuts n holes. I use Black n Decker n Bosch blades n bits only coz they're good. After u fellas go n buy the rm50 jigsaw n drill then tell me it cuts like shite. So I better tell u all I use good blades n bits 1st. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Damn lucky man, just 1 day b4 that I was seriously thinking of buying a similar case in All IT for rm199. But that 1 was ugly coz it had a blue plastic thingy at the front bottom n no fan intake. Lucky I din buy that 1.

actually most of the ones ive seen dont go directly over the psu... its more towards the centre between the psu and the drive cage... some even extend into the drive cage but stays clear of the psu unless its a big ass rad.

oh well...if ur willing to take the chance of leaking....again biggrin.gif brows.gif tongue.gif

Updates.

Here's how the panels look like after 4 hours of paint stripping n sanding. I tell u, this OE white speckle paint is the most difficult paint I've had to remove in my whole life. I used paint remover solvent which always turns paint to liquid n then just wash of with water. This white speckle paint however is like a layer of urethane paint or sumthin. I did the paint remover routine 3 times, scrubbed it with a scouring pad n paint thinner, finally wet sanded. 4 hours later oni become bare metal. Phew. HArd work but necessary to get a mirror shine paintjob.

Tell me about it. Didn't expect the damn OE paint to be so tough. I think if the office kena atom bomb, this case will still be in perfect white paint. Whahahaha.

For now will just paint it n leave as is. Coz I'm oredi experiencing withdrawal symptoms from not having my daily dose of games. Wanna quickly do the case so I can use back my gaming rig. Then later can always remove the front panel n re mod coz it's a matter of just removing 6 screws. Hoping to finish the case by 2night. 2moro install hardware n leaktest. Fastest ever worklog record? Whahaha. 3 days siap everything.

TQ, TQ. Actually I can cut it even nicer but I'm in a hurry so I'm not even 100% happy with the cuts. I rushed it a bit since I dont really worry bout screwing up a rm50 case. Hehehe. Gloss black nonid clear coat 1. It's oni the metallic colors that u need clear coat. With gloss black, just need to wet sand n then use rubbing compound with orbital polisher to polish. I'll b doing the polishing after about 2 weeks coz need to let the paint really harden b4 doing that.

Hahaha. Nia seng u. People PC worklog u come ask bout kitchen.
Yeah those doors r actually aluminum panels. They use brushed aluminum panels n laminate it on top of the wood n then the edging is plastic moldings. I saw these doors in sum ID mags n decided to order the same thing.

Bought sum black sleeves for all the wires so I can stealth the wires. Dont like the UV cacing look. Gonna stealth all wires n use white CCFL to highlight the hardware with "invisible" wires.

Ya with double sided tape all along the edges to give the panel back it's rigidity. After cutting so much out it's like a Milo tin. Very soft so hafta use tape along all edges to make it solid with the plexi. Now the panel feels solid again. Din do the rivet style coz I don't like the rivet look. Looks very cheap.

Bout the case, I just saw it at LYP just now when I went to buy the stand offs. They're selling it for 180. No rats in LYP I guess. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Yes bro. That's my infamous sexy filter. By special request, here's a few pics to explain how I made n use it.

Buy this mesh from Hardware store.

Cut the mesh a bit bigger than 120mm square. Then wrap the pantyhose around the mesh tightly. U can hook the pantyhose around the jagged edges of the mesh. Like this.................

To mount on fan just bend the edges of mesh around the fan frame like this...........

However, i think the biggest concern now is your pump.

Don't you think there may be a need to upgrade your pump now?

Yeap the paint is the normal spray paint. Arrow brand. Outside case is gloss black, inside chassis is matt black.

As for all u guys worried bout the pump. The leak test went well 1st time up. I just ran the system n everything's working fine now. I've also Prime tortured the thing to c the temps. Well, the height didn't seem to affect the temps at all. I got the exact same peak temp of 37C on Prime Max CPU test as b4. After all, the MCP350 pump is specced at 13 foot head max pressure so I highly doubt that a 2 foot tall case is gonna be any hard work at all. The temps r exactly the same as b4 so I'm fine with it. I noticed a really big improvement with system temps in this case. System temps is now only few degrees higher than CPU temp. Last time was about 10C higher than CPU temps. I reckon the big spacious case n huge air ventilation helped a whole bunch.

Updates coming in about an hour. Playing with a dual lighting system now. Will update once I'm done. Also cleaning up the messy, messy wires.

OK. Everything is done for now. I'm extremely happy the way my dual lighting went. Anyway, here's what I've done.

Enermax charge us an arm n a leg for this PSU but look at the wires. vmad.gif vmad.gif vmad.gif

I bought sum Black Vantec sleeves but the kit only provides enuf heatshrink for 3 wires. vmad.gif vmad.gif vmad.gif Gonna buy sumore heatshrink so I can completely sleeve all wires including those messy USB n Firewire wires at the bottom of the case. They're currently blue coz last time I sleeved them blue for my old case.

This is how the front looks like. Check out that gloss on the side panel. Can't imagine the shine in 2 weeks time when I polish it. It's a royal pain to keep clean though. Finger print magnet man. I actually took a whole ton of pics for this update then realised that the pics all turned out damn ugly coz got my finger prints all over it. Had to delete all pics, wipe down the whole case, retake pics again. Haha.

Need to do my external cable management all over again coz it was just right for my old case. The ACD's power pack is hangin coz it used to sit on top of the old case. Hafta put it on the table now. Also note how tall the case is. It sits just right under my glass table. I hafta pull it out n put it where it is now coz the table will block the radiator's outflow of hot air. Besides, I dont want all that hot air under the table which will make the temps unbearable for me especially during this hot weather.

This is how the back looks like in the dark.

Decided on the Sunbeam 3D Blade fan grill for my radiator. Sprayed it matt black.
user posted image

Side pic. C those blue wires right at the bottom? That's the next thing I need to do. Sleeve them all in black for stealth look so that it appears to haf no wires.

This is how the front bezel looks like in the dark. Nice understated look, not too flashy. Just sum light peeking out tru the vent holes at the bottom n also from the water tank at the top.

Now to my dual CCFL lighting. I installed 2 types, white n blue.
Here's how it looks like with just the blue CCFL on.

With just white CCFL on.

This is my favorite, the combo. This is when I turn on both the white n blue CCFL 2gether.

ian, wanna summarise the total cost of everything
Cuz i see, see including the extras like the drill, the cutting tools, all in all nearly RM200?

pics can set to 800x600 ah? liddis kecik tak nampak the details lar.
I sure most of lyn'ers use minimum of 1024x786, so donnit worry bout it being too large.

The total cost of everything was cheap only, coz I memang haf all those tools for all my other hobbies n DIY projects. The things I had to buy were materials for the mod. Acrylic, paint, paint stripper, vantec sleeving, mobo stand offs. All that cost me a grand total of....................................cheapskate rm120. Whahaha.

Updates.

Finally got the stuff I need for this update. Managed to get all sizes for the black heatshrink tubes, more black sleeves, black zip ties n 2 X 120mm fans. 1 is a high flow NMB fan for doing a push pull config so I can haf more airflow tru the radiator for cooler CPU n graphics card temps. The other fan is a CM blue LED fan for the rear exhaust to match the intake fan. Currently using the purple UV fan which doesnt match the blue theme at all.

user posted image

Gonna spend tonight sleeving the remaining wires that r still blue. Then do sumore wire management to really stealth as much as possible. Then gonna change the purple exhaust fan n add the NMB fan to the radiator. Will update again tomorrow.

Here's the blue USB n Firewire wires at the bottom. Don't like it now coz it's blue. I now prefer stealth look with all black wires. In the process of removing the blue sleeves.

user posted image

Blue sleeves removed.

user posted image

Here's how everything looks like now with all black wires. Also the CM blue LED fan at the exhaust gifs it a nice blue glow too. Note how the upper hoses glow more now compared to b4.

This is how it looked b4 this update with the blue wires at the bottom.

This is the dual fan, push pull set up for the radiator I just did. The Panaflo I originally had has been moved to the top coz it's a quieter fan. The noisier fan is underneath so that it'll be inside to contain more of the noise it makes. The NMB fan I just bought is a monster fan. I just checked the spec sheet at the NMB website n the fan is specced for 118CFM at 12V! N the noise is just unbearable. Like a jet engine. The original Panaflo is only 68CFM at 12V n is quiet. So what I did was devolt the NMB to 7V. Now the sound is just slightly louder than the Panaflo. It's OK though coz it's inside the case so the overall system noise is just a lil bit louder than b4. The time I spent redoing the dual fan set up, n the slight added noise is worth it though. My load temps haf dropped 4C. NICE. I also wanna say thanks to AllnGap for giving me advice on the fan wiring. The NMB I bought came with bare wires. No plug. I had to get AllnGap's help on which wires to hook up to the molex.

user posted image

Note the dust on the case in this pic. This is exactly y I needed to mod an intake fan filter. There's a lot of dust coz there's sum construction going on near my hse. Just imagine, without the filter, all that dust wud b inside the case n not outside like now. I also wipe n clean my case like every 2-3 days. Yet it's so dusty. N this is b4 I mirror shine it. sweat.gif

Well, the internals r almost done now. Just a lil bit more wire management needed. I was rushing to finish it last night coz my friend was calling me to join him for sum online gaming. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif Actually, looking at the b4 n after pix, the difference is only very slight. But it was no joke. That seemingly simple job of resleeving all the remaining blue wires, changing exhaust fan, redoing the dual fan rad set up n rewiring for the 7V devolting took me bout 6 hours. sweat.gif sweat.gif It was all worth it just for that 4C drop in load temps. thumbup.gif

Next update will b on the mirror shine. I've got all the sandpaper oredi n will commence soonz.

Finally found sum time to update on the mirror shine.

1st thing to do is use a sanding block with 600 grit paper n wet sand. After that go up to 800, 1000, 1500 n finally 2000.

user posted image

Then washed it to cleanse all the grit n paint dust off.

user posted image

Dried it off. After drying it off leave to dry overnight. For what oso I dunno. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif Looks dry enuf after towelling it dry but the proper method is to let it dry overnight after washing. C how the paint looks like now after wet sanding? Cool eh? It actually looks like the brushed aluminum black cases.

user posted image

After allowing it to dry overnight I whipped out the rubbing compound n orbital polishing machine to gif it a jolly good buffing to get rid of all the straight lines n get it to shine.

user posted image

Things were going well n the panel was getting to the mirror shine level. N then......................................... disaster! I wasn't concentrating for only a few seconds n buffed too hard at the curved handle part. The paint around the handle was totally buffed off to bare metal. rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif The whole panel was already getting near to mirror shine. All that was left to do was to use a swirl remover with the buffing machine, wait a month n then wax it for a super duper mirror shine. Haihhhhhhhhhhh.............

Oh well, I've reprayed the panel with another 4 coats of gloss black on top of the 8 coats previously. Will wait another 2 weeks b4 doing it all over again. cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

Will update again soonz.

Yeah it was fatigue that caused it. I was doing the mirror shine after a long hard day of modding other cases. Was really tired n no mood at the time. Shud never do mods when u feel lidat. I took the risk since it's my case n I can always redo it again n again. Plus dont forget the safety factor if u work with lotsa powertools. Instead of rubbing off paint u cud end up chopping off ure fingers. shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif

I use PPG Autocolor professional car paint compound.

No it's not. Normal car wax is cheap useless stuff n will never buff to a mirror shine. Anyway there r basically 3 types of "polish" as common ppl call it. That's sooooo wrong. First is the really abrasive stuff called RUBBING COMPOUND, then less abrasive will be POLISH, then oni u get to the final top coating that protects the shine uve achieved n that's called the WAX.

I sanded with a sanding block in a single direction. It's actually very easy. Just need full concentration to make sure u dont rub too hard.

grit paper just to specify what grit sand paper you need to use. exp: 800 grit, 1000 grit, 2000 grit. The bigger the number, the more fine the sand paper.

wet sand it the process of doing sanding under wet condition. (Under running water, oil...)

Phew, it's been a bz few weeks. Anyway, haven't had time to do the mirror shine yet as I've had lotsa mods waiting in line. But I spared about an hour for my own case today. Did a 3rd lighting system for the case with just LEDs so I can save on electricity.

I bought these Case laser LEDs at the recent PC fair. They're very simple to use. Just connect the molex plug to it n position the LEDs right where u want them.

user posted image

I put 1 in the 5.25" bay right behind the water tank n flow indicator.

user posted image

1 in the HDD cage to highlight the water hoses in the middle. 1 below the HDD cage to highlight the Vantec UV PCI slot protectors below the graphics card. This is how it looks like with just LEDs on.

user posted image

This is with the blue CCFLs on. Done previously.

user posted image

This is with the white CCFLs on. Also done previously.

user posted image

This is the combo with both the blue n white CCFLs on. This is my favorite wub.gif but coz so many CCFLs on, the consumption is gonna b high n my PC is on all day long. sweat.gif sweat.gif

user posted image

Now the PC is mostly running on just the LEDs to save on electricity. Then when the mood strikes I'll just flick the switches to turn on all 3 systems for maximum bling bling.

I also cleaned up the wiring behind the case. Here's how it looked last time. As u can c the white tubing is a lil bit too small to contain all the wires n a lot of wires r bulging out of it at the bottom. The Apple Cinema Display's power supply is also hanging.

user posted image

Here's how it looks like now after I bought sum fatter wire tubing to make all the wires fit inside instead of bulging out. Also put the ACD psu on the floor instead of hanging in mid air. Looks a whole bunch better now.

user posted image

That's it for today. icon_rolleyes.gif

Harlo, that black sheep casing is the 1 n only 1 in this world coz modded by myself. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Anyway, the casing that I want to buy which is either the Lian Li V2000 or V1200 is out of my choice now. Coz of the upside down orientation, it's gonna overheat my motherboard coz the heatpipe wont work efficiently when it's upside down. Oredi read many reports of A8N32SLi-Deluxe owners complaining bout overheating with upside down cases.

Anyway, here's sum updated pix of the installation going on in the middle of the night at 3am. Kakakaka. MmmmMMMMmmmmmmmm just look at that yummy yum yum sexy mobo going into it's new home. lust.gif lust.gif lust.gif

Wokeh. Finally took sum time of gaming to take sum pix of everything up n running in Ch3@psk8. It's still really messy coz I havent had time to stealth the wiring. Did a rush install to make sure no DOA parts, n also was rushing to start playing games. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif Will update sumore after stealth wiring is done.

Overall look now.

Mobo area.

user posted image

Close up of mobo area. C that blower fan on the end of the heatpipes. That's the optional fan from Asus. I hafta use that coz of watercooling. The usual CPU fan usually is enuf to blow the heatpipe radiator but on watercooled CPU like this there is no air movement there at all.

user posted image

N here's the evil twins! Unfortunately there's no watercooling solution for the 7950GX2 yet. So far only Alienware has watercooling on the 7900GX2 specially made by Coollit Systems.

Ian, I read somewhere that the area where you fixed the fan blower thingy, does not have thermal paste on it.
Maybe you could open that area, and apply some AS5 to cool it better.

Wah! That's gonna b a right royal pain to do. If u look carefully at it, the radiator is connected to the heatpipes n it's like a whole unit. Anyway, I dont think it's important to haf TIM under the heatpipe radiator coz it's sitting on the VR n it's a really good 8 phase thingy with Coolstack 2 cooling. The really hot bits r the 2 big mamas below.

Anyway just out of curiosity, can u post the link on TIMming the radiator?

any "Sparco' style weight reduction?

Ch3@psk8 has been decommissioned. All the hardware has been moved over to my new Lian Li V1200B n the new project is now called King Kong.

There will b more updates on Ch3@psk8 though. Coz it's now an empty case. I'll haf lotsa time to mod the case sumore. I'm thinkin up sum new stuff to do for Ch3@psk8. These r the things I'm thinking about for Ch3@psk8.

1. New side window design.
2. May make a window for the other side window as well.
3. Top window.
4. All new custom made front panel using acrylic.
5. New coat of paint. Mebe metallic blue?

Well, I'm open to ideas from u guys. Pls share any ideas u may haf for new mods to Ch3@psk8. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

edit: this is gonna take sum time. My priority is to get King Kong completed 1st. After that I'll get back to making Ch3@psk8 even nicer than b4.

Don't go for metallic blue, go for Metallic Candy Red... wub.gif

One day i'll be spraying my Tsunami Dream to that colour, but one thing kacau my otak...

My Tsunami Dream is black in colour, if i just spray like that, wouldn't it make the red colour not so vivid?

Or should i take out the original paint first?

If i were to take out the original paint, how the hell am i going to take out the front door black colour?

I can't take it out, it's originally black aluminium...

Is it? blink.gif

Ferrari Red?
It's not that beautiful, candy red is more "horny" wub.gif

Yes, to remove, but how?

And about the black front full thick aluminium, i don't think i can scrap the paint out, it's original black aluminium, is it?

Can anyone here help me? icon_question.gif

Or should i just give the casing to ian, and ask him to spray the casing? rclxub.gif
