QUOTE(LightningZERO @ Sep 6 2012, 07:23 PM) It really made me think twice about the Lumia 920. I've been burned by Nokia's empty promises before, and the fact they had the nerve to use fake footage to showcase a feature just completely turned me off.I hope they can redeemed themselves by getting positive reviews of the actual unit. |

QUOTE(FastCoder @ Sep 7 2012, 12:07 AM) From the specs given in gsmarena, the 920 supports USB on-the-go. So even though the 920 doesn't have a Micro-SD slot, in theory, you can connect a USB drive to it to copy files in and out. I don't understand the logic of micro-sd being 'messy'. The unit is small, and can fit nicely inside the phone micro sd slot. You don't have to worry about running out of space because you can pick the size of micro-sd to your liking.Which is better? A usb drive or a micro-sd card? For me, handling a micro-sd card is messy because it could easily get lost, so I much prefer using a usb drive. For phones depended on USB OTG to store extra data, you have to carry a flash drive and the cable itself all the time. Extra accessories , thus extra messy. |

QUOTE(FastCoder @ Sep 7 2012, 02:50 AM) Like I said, microsd is small so when you take it out of its slot, it can get lost easily. This is ridiculous excuse to say about microsd. I might as well say you can easily lose both the USB OTG and the flash drive if you are that careless to even lose the microsd every time you take it out. You don't even often have to take out the microsd whereby USB OTG you have to constantly remind yourself to bring it along with you which increase the likely hood of you misplace the cable. QUOTE(FastCoder @ Sep 7 2012, 02:50 AM) Anyway, the 920 has no microsd slot. The advantage of using a flash drive as opposed to the microsd is that you don't need to have to use a computer and a card reader to transfer the information out or into the phone. That is the only advantage of USB OTG, but I have rarely encounter situation where I need to use USB OTG to transfer data to someone else. It must have been like 2-3 times I did that. Majority of my transfer was done via Wifi / data cable transfer, or simply email to them.If you are on the move, and you don't have a computer with you, you can transfer your photos out to a flash drive to be given to somebody. A lot of people carry flash drives around, along with their keys. The small USB OTG cable can be easily kept in a car, a small bag or even in the pocket for easy access when needed. Also, micro sd card reader are small nowadays, can also be kept anywhere. See this: ![]() A lot more convenient to carry than USB OTG, can even stick on your keychain. |

I'm kind of wondering if the new Lumia can be released on time. The fact that what was shown are prototypes, and camera no finalized, it makes you wonder. If I can recall, Nokia N8 was notorious for having release date pushed back many times.

QUOTE(FastCoder @ Sep 8 2012, 04:50 PM) Yeah, smartphones are so expensive. It just doesn't make sense for a small thing like that to cost so much. Imagine a top-end smartphone is more expensive than 1 TV and 1 notebook combined ! Silly comparison.Like this I might as well say it does not make sense that a a kilo of 24 karat gold cost more than a car. |

QUOTE(FastCoder @ Sep 8 2012, 11:47 PM) Gold can't be mass-produced. Cars and phones can be mass-produced. And TVs can also be mass produced, more so than smart phones. If you think gold is not a proper comparison, then there are other examples. http://www.amazon.com/Leica-M9-Digital-Fin...k/dp/B002NX13LC See the price there? Many times more expensive for HDTV, yet it is nothing more than a camera. So how do you value the price of a product? QUOTE(FastCoder @ Sep 8 2012, 11:47 PM) If you say it is a silly comparison, then why is a 40" LCD TV may cost up to RM20k, more than 10 years ago? And how much do you think phone nowadays cost more than 10 years ago? How much for 4GB RAM over 10 years ago? What about 1TB HDD over 10 years ago?If you want to play cost & time factor, please take a look at this: ![]() |
