How competitive do you want it to be? At ~120 Euro off iPhone 5 is not enough? On top of that, virtually every aspect, Lumia 920 wins an iPhone 5 hands down. Cheaper than iPhone, better specs, still not satisfied?

Then might as well ask them to give out for free.

Whilst your comments are not unwelcome especially it is just your opinion, here's mine.

iPhone is an internationally acclaimed and reputed smartphone loved by unprecedented numbers of consumers. Nokia was like Apple in years gone by and I still remember they then warranted higher prices. But now they have kinda hid away with their tails between their legs. With that said, to compete with the likes of Apple and even Samsung, they cannot just be a 'few dollars' cheaper than those giant brands if they want to win back a certain percentage and capture the slice of the market they lost in those early years.

Having said that, again, I do not know their rationale and marketing strategies and therefore this is just my opinion.

I have the same problem with u too... sometimes i feel weird when I didn't get any reply from my friends, then only i realise that they DID reply, but i did not get any notifications... need to open up the apps then only realise i hv a msg...

I have migrated from iOS to Android and thinking of moving to Windows. Whatsapp has this problem but what about Tango, Viber? Same issue? And does Windows have Wechat app? Would appreciate advice from those in the know as I use these frequently. TQ.

recently I just found another annoying thing, I'm not sure about you WP users but whenever there's a call coming and I happen to be in wifi mode on standby, then I picked the call and almost after saying "hello?" the phone just blast everything at your ear if you didn't turn on silent, notifications sound like whatsapp or message rings will just blast through your ear during the conversasion making you really really uncomfortable when hearing the other side. doh.gif

There is no setting to turn it off?

Yeah of course but I rely on the sound all the time so that I dont have to stare at the live tiles every single 5 minutes just to make sure I don't miss anything from my clients. (My clients love to use Whatsapp).
I understand the speaker is located at the bottom of my Lumia but during calls on my phone, the phone/OS will ring at your ear (where the 'voice' speaker is located) instead of the big one below. And even sometimes when I'm on data connected (3G/H) it doesn't really update my notifications on the live tiles instead it happens during calls.  doh.gif

Well, most of the rings are from Whatsapp.
*
I think you misunderstand.

I am asking whether there is any setting to off notification sound, whether it's a message or incoming call, when you are on a call, like what they have in S3.

just crossed my mind. If Nokia Malaysia has stock of the old lumias, they might delay launch of new lumias until these clear out. sad.gif

What you suggested does not make good business sense. Let me tell you why, no, better that I ask you.

There are other relatively superb phones in the market. You know your current models won't sell as your new and desired software would not be available for an up-grade for them. Would you still persist on selling off your stock before bringing in the new models which you also know is so hyped up and Windows 'fanboys' and even those not so into Windows before are eagerly waiting for it; and risk the chance of these people buying the other superb phones?

Moreover, those who are really loyal to Windows and Nokia will in all probability source from other countries to get the phones. Won't that make you lose a slice of the pie?

So, Nokia will not delay introducing the new Lumias just because they want to rid the existing stock. Period.

I did not say it is a good business sense. Never say never. If everyone does everything with a good business sense, Nokia & RIM wont be where they are now. All I said that it is a possibility and I stand by it.

My point exactly. There is no possibility whatsoever that any company would even think of what you mentioned. And I took the liberty to put down the rationale. If companies do not exercise good business sense, then I do not know why they are in business, for fun?

Nokia and RIM are where they are now due to very stiff competition, being of the of the reasons. And that is exactly why Nokia is trying to make a come back, with the new Lumia series.

The 16GB iPhone 5 will cost RM2290, the 32GB iPhone 5 will be 2690, the Lumia 920 has a better camera, wireless charging and better screen. If Nokia sells it for RM2200, it's a steal.

Allow me to say my peace.

You cannot, sorry, you can compare it that way but you should not. Certain sports cars without a lot of accessories, features and even air-cond are sold for an arm and a leg but some full specs Japanese cars go for sometimes only 20% of those cars. This is the real world and when you are in demand, you command a high price bracket but when you are not in that same league, no matter how good your phone (or other commodities for that matter) is, you just cannot price it too high, relatively.

Nokia in this case is trying to make a comeback and my personal view is that their main priority at this juncture is to build back their customer loyalty by getting the numbers. How? Make every effort for all and sundry to use their phones. How? Sell them at a relatively low price. Then, when that objective is achieved, gradually move the price bracket. By then, consumers are already with you cause they know you have good products and will not mind the prices.

Galaxy S3? Done it. Iphone? Done that.

Lumia 920? Lovin' this

I am contemplating changing to a WP8 phone. Since you have migrated over from Android and iOS which is also what I am using, perhaps you could advise on the pros and cons of your present toy over the previous ones. Thanks.

I got this not so much coz its WP8 but coz this version by Nokia has better build, body, character, exclusive apps and great hardware. Can't say the same for both my S3 and Iphone4.

Playing with it for a week or so, here's what i can gather:
1. Apps are more integrated. Good example is People App combines the best of whatsapp, social networking sites, emails, and phone numbers into one convenient place.

2. Nokia apps are awesome. Together with Office, its Drive and Maps are 2nd to none and even has voice navigation no less. All free! The other stuff like cinemagraph and city lens are great to have too. AFAIK, no one else in the market has this kind of bundle.

3. Nokia Music not available in Malaysia, but I understand previous nokia phones sold here have it, so just a matter of time? My UK set removes all features once detected I'm in msia, so limited to own music you upload into it. With this app fully enabled, the 920 is da bomb.

4. Nokia Pureview is not bad, but its not to say damn good. I understand a software update is coming to rectify this issue mainly for daylight shots. Low light and image stabilization capability is the best of best.

5. My Android S3 lags quite often even after upgraded to JellyBean. 920 smooth.

6. Windows apps still lacking in quality and quantity for sure but otherwise the 920 is more than functional enough for most people's needs!

7. 920 got character I reckon. Its the color options and build quality that mostly enticed me. Iphone has very outdated design now.

8. Battery life on S3 now is very bad. Dunno, but last time my korean LG batteries got pregnant by itself. So its probably due for change.

The thing to take away is that I'd prefer a great phone that serves its purpose at doing things great. Everything else that could be done better in a tablet (I have galaxy 7.7, ipad mini and ipad2) or laptop should stay that way. Its a smartphone after all and to make it a be all and end all for everything may not be practical or desirable.
After all, how much of the stuff in the phone do we actually fully utilize anyway.

Thanks for your in-depth insight. I share your sentiments and think you have hit the nail on the head.

I just have one question. The People App is only linkable to those with Windows phones only, right?

No... People app/live tile basically your phone contact book

Oh, so this is basically a special feature of the SMS function? Unlike independent social network apps like Whatsapp, etc.?

It takes elements of other social apps like facebook, hotmail and whatsapp, and combines it together with your phonebook into one seamless profile.

To answer your prev question, there is one feature of People hub that requires another WP8 to communicate, which is the Rooms/Group section. Like whatsapp but built specifically for windows 8 phone users only.

Thanks. It's good to have any information which can assist towards a good decision.

Well, you actually let me lose a few hours of sleep when you did not respond to my reply. Thought I forgot about a long lost friend.

Anyway, I am presently using an S3 after a few years on iOS. Yeah, thinking of switching to Windows. And toiling over whether to get an 8X or a 920. Decisions, decisions!.

Regardless of what I said, I still get my Lumia 920. Got my red color unit now in Nokia Pavilion. RM1999.

Nokia Pavilion is out of yellow and red, mine is the last red unit. Only left white and black.

String, I take it from your posts that you did not pre-order. So, did you get any free gift when you bought your unit?

If anyone can give a good review, you can, recalling from the good ol' days of the initial iPs era.

I am going to get from my friend's shop later, a yellow unit, as being dealers they can only get their stock later. Could you give us a quick run down on the phone after you have played with it for a while?

TQ.

guys i've been wondering does lumia 920 comes with a free wireless charging plate in malaysia?

Not at this point in time. During the official launch, they just may offer that as a marketing strategy (I along with many would wish for this to happen). However, this is Malaysia, so who knows?

It is not officially launched. They just started selling them only.

Someone here mentioned that there will be a road show later to launch it officially. Whether that is going to happen, we will have to wait and see.

I doubt so. There is a possibility which I did post earlier wishing for it, that during the launch, they give better free gifts like perhaps the wireless charger, for purchases then.
