For me, the added weight is preferable to poor signal reception. The polycarbonate unibody of the Nokia Lumias have excellent reception, whereas the iPhone, with its aluminium case, has poor reception.
Nokia Lumia's polycarbonate unibody has a high quality and solid feel to it as well as difficult to be scratched. |

QUOTE(matthewctj @ Sep 18 2012, 09:13 AM) As least a valid reason I can comprehend. When I read one liners like preferring heavier to lighter, it just seems more like justification. Thus, thank you for that. For a phone with 4.5" screen, I don't think it is that heavy. If you have used a 5800 before, the 3.2" screen is already 109g and it is definitely not heavy. I think the bigger problem may be the size and width of the L920, just like any of the large Samsung phones and phablets, which makes it hard to fit into a pocket.Still for me, when someone says they prefer heavier, how heavy can one keep on tolerating? Imagine if Nokia comes up with something as heavy as 250g, which by comparison is about more or less the diff between a L920 and iP5, will they come out to defend the product weight again giving the same reason that it's only an additional 70g? By rationale, most I would say would want it lighter, provided of course it doesn't mess up the reception. Maybe eventually, phone would be like those super thin concept see through glass/plastic like we see in movies (wishful thinking again in my lifetime). What will it be then? Rejecting it because it's not heavy enough? All in all, like I said, I really like the WP8, maybe not the L920. The tiles and the OS integration with contacts, social network etc really are impressive compared to the boring iOS. I don't believe I have ridiculed Lumia users here with my initial post nor this one. Having used 3210, 8810, 8850, 5800 & N97 Mini prior to my current phone, I know how good Nokia is/was. I would be happy to hear if they are indeed making a good comeback. Good competition only spells out better products from all manufacturers. Because I have, on many occasions, encountered poor sound quality coming from expensive Apple and Samsung phones, I wouldn't want to spend lots of money on phones with poor signal reception, no matter how good their ecosystems are. People tend to forget that the primary function of their simarphone is to make and receive calls, not for playing games. Yes, the iOS is getting boring. The WP7 already has better UI and now with the WP8, the improvements will blow the competition out of the water. The Apple and Samsung duopoly is not good for consumers, and hopefully Nokia would surivive and give us another option to choose from. |

QUOTE(D-Frog @ Sep 18 2012, 04:08 PM) Something that withdraw people from lumia or any other window phone is that their updates!!!!! I think the non-upgradeable situation of Windows Phone 7 is a one-off thing. It probably wouldn't happen again. That's because the OS was based on the old Windows CE kernel. But the upcoming Windows Phone 8 is based on the Windows NT kernel, the same with Windows XP, Vista, 7 and of course, the new Windows 8.Whenever a new windows os updates , they practically Ditch and doesn't provide any support for the old device This might be the reason why Nokia is losing their customer ... I once was a loyal fan towards nokia and are usually keen to see the new phones ...but? Why window ? I aint rich, so changing a phone each time when there is a major updates on window is just unacceptable .. Just can't bear with the cost |

QUOTE(kuroneko0509 @ Dec 6 2012, 01:22 PM) Now I understand why we are slow to get the new phones - because we are one of the cheapest. If we get the phones early, some enterprising chaps would buy locally and start selling the cheaper phones to the rest of the world. |

QUOTE(johnny82 @ Dec 6 2012, 03:08 PM) lol hopefully what u say bout the support is right Always buy a new smartphone only when your old one is kaput or not able to serve you in a certain way. Or unless you have someone to hand over your old functional smartphone to.anyway, after seeing the price drop.. i think i might hold back a while.. see the price after half year then decide again my iphone 4 still alive so far lol To buy a new thing just to feel good is bad for the environment and bad for your finances but good for our consumption-based economy, ironically. |
