So my iPad 2 is like 1 year 4 months old now, about 2 days ago only I noticed that the mic is not working, my niece was playing the talking larry app, and it did not pick up her voice.

I open the camera app and switch to video, took a 10 seconds video and there was indeed no sound being recorded in the video. All I hear is static.

It was running on 5.0.1 and jailbroken, so I updated to 5.1.1 and tried recording video, again all I can hear is just static

so it was indeed a problem with the hardware not the firmware.

Anyone have replaced their iPad mic and how much is the cost?


If it's too expensive, I might as well buy an external mic instead, since all other functions is working flawlessly.

Perhaps, anyone here have bought an external mic for their iPad? Care to share the price and where to buy here in KL?

Have you tried vacuuming the mic (tiny hole on the centre, top edge of the iPad)? Sometimes there're some dirt covering the Mic which affects the Mic not functioning.
When vacuuming, get as much suction as you can and use your fingers to close off as much of the nozzzel opening as possible to maximize the suction. Some people claimed it may took up to 30 seconds of vaccumming before the mic worked again.

the mic hole seems to be fine, it is not block by any dirt, i did tried to vacuum it but still not working

In that case you may want to try "iMalaysian" since they are providing iDevice services, guess they have a few branches all around Malaysia. Search for their website for contact and ask them for further details regarding about your problem and charging fees.
BTW, how many times you have try to vacuum the hole? I read that some people succeed for the 2nd attempt since the dirt is from inside where you can't really view it from the external.
