Wife wants sex change to escape mum-in-law
Chen and Jiang get a doctor's advise on their sex swap plan.
A Chinese couple that's been married for less than a year say they want a sex change for the both of them so they can swap roles in the family—and so she can escape her mother-in-law.
Jiang Ling and her husband Chen Li, both 37, hail from Jiangyong of Hunan province and tied the knot through a matchmaker. Jiang Liang told rednet.cn, the Hunan Provincial Government news portal, "I'm stronger than him, physically and mentally, so I'd be better off as a man and I can take care of him."
Jiang's other reason for the sex change is to escape the constant criticisms from her mother-in-law. "I can become a man and marry (Chen) and then his mother can't grumble and curse at me anymore," she said.
Chen's mum apparently doesn't think Jiang deserves her son because Jiang was previously married and had a baby, but the child died of undisclosed reasons. "No matter how much I do for her, she's still not happy with me and have to scold me a few times a day," a sobbing Jiang told reporters.
The sex swap idea came when, after another argument with his mum, Jiang lashed out at her husband and said: "If I'm were a man and you were a woman, I wouldn't get bullied!" Chen immediately agreed with his wife.
Chen, who sat quietly beside Jiang during the interview, smiled in agreement with his wife's story. "I didn't realise my feminine side until I left home for a boarding school," he said, adding that he was always shy to talk to strangers.
"I felt lost and couldn't adapt to life without my parents. One night, a male classmate came to talk to me and I got the feeling of being cared for again. If I become a real woman, then I can rely on (Jiang) and I love it that way," he said.
Jiang and Chen say they would like to start a family of their own first before having their sex swaP, and then still stay as Chen the husband and Jiang the wife despite being a new woman and a new man.
