rclxms.gif  coll will order it shortly... my 17" CRT monitor is acting all weird already.. its been serving me for the last 7~8 years!!
What type of "weird" problem? Describe in detail. Nowadays CRT monitors have little value (not worth fixing), may as well get a LCD/LED monitor. wink.gif

QUOTE(firstknight @ Sep 1 2012, 05:17 PM)
GUYS.. got a yellow line down across the LCD monitor... does that show my monitor dying?
If that line stays in the same place all the time including during the BIOS POST screen then its likely a panel problem. How old is that monitor, and is it still under warranty? hmm.gif

panel more than 4 years... lol...
Brand, model and size? Try tapping on the top frame area of that line, and see if it changes color or more lines appear. You can also try pressing slightly (not too hard) the top area where the line starts from, and see if there are changes... hmm.gif

Size? You can check the model number on the label at the back of the monitor... wink.gif

QUOTE(firstknight @ Sep 2 2012, 06:04 PM)
no changes...
Does it appear all the time, or just appears after some time? Usually for panel problems, have to replace whole panel. Other than that, have to know how to check for cracks or connection problems at the TCP (tape carrier package) on the panel. Do you know how to do that? hmm.gif

vx2025wm....
Whoah! That's monitor uses a PMVA panel (true 16.7 million colors) instead of the usual TN panel. Also its native resolution is actually 1680x1050 instead of the usual 1600x900 found on most 20" widescreen monitors nowadays. rclxms.gif

QUOTE(firstknight @ Sep 2 2012, 09:37 PM)
it stays on....
You have a few choices, really. First, just continue to use the monitor while ignoring that line. Second, get a new monitor and put aside that monitor as spare or sell it off as scrap. I could also take a look closely and see if I could apply the tape+padding trick though the chances are quite low for it to work since tapping, pressure and warming up on the panel did not alter the line in any way. Anyway, the tape carrier thingy is pretty delicate and further influence could make it worse (e.g. another line appears). That's why for this type of problem, usually whole panel has to be replaced although its not recommended as the price of that replacement panel alone (usually anywhere from at least RM200 and higher) can buy a brand new monitor (ie. usually only worth for monitors sizes 23" and above). hmm.gif

i didnt know that detail... lol.. well nice find but it has its flaws.... the dvi sometimes cant detect.. and it will have pop pop sound then the power light goes off... i have to disconnect turn power off completely from power supply... wait for awhile reconnect everything and 99% it will come back on... so really sucky... at one point the dvi tot was dead so i have to use vga via dvi adapter... but it also have the same problem.. RMA the screen once during warranty period and they mentioned this is the problem for this LCD....
This one is usually the power supply section, usually badcaps. But the "pop" sounds could be from the backlight section (again possible badcaps). This one is usually easy to fix. If you want, the just ask/PM me... hmm.gif

QUOTE(firstknight @ Sep 2 2012, 10:21 PM)
So far the 1 yellow line is bearable as it is at the side not in the middle and usually in game can kinda ignore it.. lol...

Now I have no idea which one to get or brand? envision looks good now....
I've used quite a number of monitors already, though mostly from Acer and BenQ ones, and a few Samsungs. My current one, BenQ FP222W has been running fine (already 5 years). Usually I tend to stick to known big/established brands, rather than going for less known ones like Envision, Proview, IIyama, Planar, VHO, etc. Hardware support is pretty important for LCD monitor. wink.gif

QUOTE(firstknight @ Sep 2 2012, 10:21 PM)
any recommend? of course looking something bigger than this 20"..
As many has mentioned/recommended here, bigger than 20" would be Dell UltraSharp U2312HM... icon_idea.gif

The strangest thing was taht when I upgrade my card to 670.. now DVI can use again... wonder what is wrong??
No idea, but the symptoms described (in bold) are usually indicative of power supply problems (e.g having to switch off or disconnect before can switch on back again). hmm.gif

QUOTE(firstknight @ Sep 2 2012, 11:42 PM)
Badcaps what you mean?
Short for "bad capacitors". In many power supplies, capacitors can determine the stability of the power being delivered. If capacitors go bad then will have random and intermittent problems. wink.gif

QUOTE(firstknight @ Sep 2 2012, 11:42 PM)
AOC also known to be a good hardware producer.. so that one also no go?
AOC is actually an OEM for many monitor brands, though nowadays they decided to also compete in the market under their own brandname. The others like Acer, BenQ and Samsung are also OEMs to brands like Dell, HP, IBM, etc. Generally in terms of spare parts and replacements, brands like Acer, BenQ, Samsung and Dell are plentiful and easier to find since they are more common... tongue.gif

ur 5 years old  benq, does its white turn yellowish?
Nope, still white with no hint of yellowish at all. But its not as bright or as "whitish" as before though. At least it was not reddish (for your information, reddish is usually an indicator of failing CCFL). Mine uses AUO panel (opened up before) while I've seen other FP222W monitors with Chi Mei panels (and different layout internally). Talking about white, my ancient Acer AL1717 is truly paper white (talking about brand new paper color) despite its age. Even my other monitor, Acer H233H (with Samsung panel) cannot match the older Acer monitor when it comes to white. cool2.gif

Which IPS monitor will you choose next? Viewsonic or Dell? brows.gif

hmm.gif  nice to see that ur Acer AL1717 maintains its colour.. i guess what is the factor that make it able to retain its colour despite its age?   hmm.gif  mine previous lcd before quite yelowish, that i can't stand anymore, & let it go.
Could be the CCFL used as well as the material used for refraction and diffusion layers. Usually when CCFL goes bad, you'll see reddish (sometime orange or ocre) tint as well as flickering (and in worse cases flashing). Anyway, what's your previous LCD brand/model? hmm.gif

so, is this yellowish thing happens on ips? hmm.gif
Yes, it can happen on IPS also. As mentioned earlier, could be backlight degradation as well as material used. hmm.gif

hi would like to ask, among all these brands.. which would be the best bang for buck 20" monitors? hmm.gif
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
If bang-per-buck then of course choose the cheapest one, BenQ in that list. Other candidates are Acer S200HL LED (RM299) and BenQ G2025HD (RM279), prices are from Viewnet. Make sure the monitors you are going to buy has DVI input... tongue.gif

also, i would like to know some feedbacks abt the product quality too hmm.gif like build quality, colour display, etc etc
For the feedbacks, you will have to wait for people who have bought those monitors to comment here... icon_rolleyes.gif

All of them have VGA and DVI output. But is the brand BenQ reliable? Cos i would like something that can last at least 3 years without breaking down

If no one purchased it before then ill ask which brand would be the most reliable one then tongue.gif
I think I've mentioned before about the good apple and bad apple analogy when it comes to longevity. Very much depends on your luck actually. Similar to dead pixels (factory defect)... icon_idea.gif

I have two friends using Samsung monitors, they gave me good reviews. But of course ill try look for cheaper ones brows.gif
Even if you bought a Samsung monitor, the panel itself may not be Samsung. As I've fixed lots of LCD monitors before, Samsung monitors also uses panels from AUO, Chi Mei, ChungHwa, Hannstar, etc. tongue.gif

Mine lasted 5 years and still going strong, but the same cannot be said for other owners of the same monitor. My brother's Samsung SyncMaster 932B+ is still running fine but I've seen others broke down often. Thus pretty much a lottery draw when it comes to longevity... wink.gif

is Dell ST2320L a good monitor?? I need to get a budget yet reliable monitor for my new rig.. Tight budget for the Ultra edition as I want the delicious MSI GTX 670 PE~ ><
There's a good reason why many recommended the U2312HM over that one. You can check this previous post here and decide yourself... brows.gif
QUOTE(BlackWoods @ Sep 3 2012, 11:55 AM)
I would like to give some feedback on my Dell ST2320L that I've used for around 1 week.

I received the monitor about 3 days after I placed the order.
However, they didn't put in the Power Cord in the box, I emailed them and wait for another 5 working days for the cable.
I use my spare Power Cord to use temporarily while waiting for them.

Display wise, the monitor is mediocre.
Please be noticed that the monitor is a LCD with LED backlit.
It is not a LED monitor, the black is not true black but lit up by back light.
For a true LED, when displaying black color, it is just like you turn off the monitor.

For color, it is slightly yellowish but maybe due to weak viewing angle.
Opt for a IPS, the viewing angle for TN panel is very poor.

The build quality is pretty solid, may last some abuses.

dear sifus.. i recently bought a dell u2312hm monitor... however i didnt get any power cord.. can i use any similar type of power cord? that fits.. how bout the cord's power rating?
Just use the same type of power cord as used on your PC's. No need to consider the power rating as LCD monitors are low power devices. Also no need to worry about the fuse rating as well, since internally the monitor also has a fuse. icon_rolleyes.gif

should I RMA? or that's the display cable problem
Did you set any power saving modes such as (hibernation, switching off monitor after certain inactivity period, etc) on your PC? hmm.gif

Did you use hibernation? Try switching off all power saving modes. Sometimes it will take quite a bit of time for the monitor to respond (and detect your graphic card signals). Also which cable connection did you use? What did you do when the monitor did not respond? hmm.gif

If you had to restart the PC rather than off-and-on back the monitor, then its likely the source of your problem is the PC itself. Just disable all power saving modes, especially disable hibernation. hmm.gif

hi guys, is it common to see your screen flickers with your naked eyes. not so obvious but there are several lines moving up like water ripple. i just bought my monitor. before taking back to change, i would want to clarify with the issue.

i have changed the cables from hdmi > vga, change my cpu to laptop too, remove the speakers and placed far away. and yet it still flickers. one more thing, it becomes less visible with high brightness.

YouTube Video
I'd say that's a badcap problem, on the inverter side... hmm.gif

My monitor seems to have those lines again even on the replacement unit. I can seriously see those lines moving on my background even it is faded. and once in a while, there will be like a disrupted screen for a split second.

What is the issue here?
Do you have any wireless devices (e.g. handphone, WiFi dongle/receiver, wireless phone, etc) around the monitor? Also you may want to check your power connections (ie. avoid multi-plug bricks). Try using a AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) if the problem persists. Other than that, there's a possibility of getting a bad batch... hmm.gif

Hi Lex,

I had my 17' monitor, laptop, rig being plugged into the multi-plug on a single power source.

My rig has a 650W PSU.

I don't have an AVR.
Is that a multi-plug power strip, or one of those multi-plug brick? Usually I would recommend using power strips with individual plugs for each equipment. Best to avoid using multi-plug bricks as much as possible... wink.gif

Other problems on both the units are that, I am able to see thin vertical lines on the screen (as though every pixels are not pack together but being divided by those straight lines but those lines are colored slightly darker), and I was thinking might be because it is a 3D monitor, so I just ignore it.
Let me guess, you're using VGA connection? unsure.gif

QUOTE(MercurialA @ Jun 1 2013, 12:03 AM)
But what annoys me was the fade horizontal lines moving up vertically.
This one is without doubt bad inverter section (for CCFLs) and/or bad power to the backlighting (for LEDs). shakehead.gif

I wish to clarify with that issue before requesting for a change to another brand/monitor as I have lost my confidence on that monitor.
Perhaps its just a bad batch, as mentioned earlier. You may want to consider changing to a different brand/model... icon_rolleyes.gif

the left side has the purple like color, just suddenly appear like that while im playing game, first time experience this after 6 months with new rig.

monitor: dell S2340L
vga: radeon sapphire HD 7870 XT with boost

Could be bad backlight problem (ie. LED degrade?). If its still under warranty then recommend sending it for RMA. hmm.gif
