Dell S series S2440L 24" Monitor with LED, isn't that VA panel?

Cheers  unsure.gif

Ya. Only 24" is VA panel....the rest of S series is IPS though. All of them has glossy panels....

Must be direct influence from TFT Central's remarks. The U2312 has a default cd/m of over 200, that's scorching bright. Forgot what's the fL but generally you need to turn it almost all the way down to get it to 140cd/m which is already 20cd/m above usual setting. However, these are monitors with LED technologies, not plasma screens and are not meant to be used in a pitch black environment. Therefore, we shouldn't be too picky about its black level. If customers want a good monitor, the U2x11 series should be purchased instead but that's 2 x the price.

Glossy screen does a lot of funny trick to the brain, not only would it look more vivid, black level also would magically increase, no sarcasm here.
*
VA panel has much better black level. The only issue is the response time is slower and contrast shift vs viewing angle (but still much better than TN!).

i currently have the Dell UltraSharp U2412M, but i think wanna sold it and get a glossy one. which 24" monitor would u guys recommend that got almost near quality as the Dell UltraSharp U2412M ? basically i use it for editing and playing games. much appreciate your suggestions.
*
why do you want to replace a perfectly readable matte screen with a glossy reflective screen?

i find that glossy screen is more appealing and crispier. dont you think so ? its like a phone, u got to choose the matte screen protector, or the crystal clear screen protector. im definitely gonna choose the clear one as the matte one is, yeah good with terminating smudges, but the picture quality is somehow downgraded. u feel me ?
*
Disagreed :-P
I think glossy screens only benefit is lower power consumption because the panel doesn't need to display as much brightness. The glossy screen artificially makes u think it's brighter by reflecting external light, which has useless information and sometimes annoying.

bro what is ur price for that? tongue.gif

Actually that S2440L is considered very good for a VA panel. Check this out: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_s2440l.htm

lol the text are just too long....>.<

i think i am just able to read some of it and just go directly to the summary....

but for RM 635 (+ epp), this LCD seems like a great deal...tongue.gif
*
Basically, they made advancement in response time and colour accuracy compared to previous VA panels. Yes it's a good deal for 24 incher, as long as you are OK with the glossy panel. If not, I still prefer eIPS panel Ultrasharp. tongue.gif

My replacement unit arrived 10 minutes ago. Bravo to Dell Service. rclxms.gif

Not sure if its a new or refurbished unit, because the manufacturing date is Nov 2011, the faulty unit he took away was manufactured in Sept 2012.

Honestly speaking, I really cant see much difference from the U2312HM IPS screen compared to my old Samsung 171N TN screen bought 9 years ago...1 thing for sure is that the samsung was easier on the eyes.
*
The difference should be significant enough that one will not revert back to TN panel hehe. The viewing angle shall be the easiest to notice.
I heard that U2312HM has slightly high minimum brightness. Probably you placed it in a dark room?

Just to remind you, the swivelled monitor on the right must be an IPS panel. If not, you will have troubles with viewing angle.

Is it all monitor operate best at 60 Hz? what if I set to 75 Hz? hmm.gif  hmm.gif

For the best display, use DVI instead of VGA. I think 60Hz will be automatically fixed for highest resolution supported.

hi wanna ask
compare 2 IPS MON
AOC 23 inch vs dell ultra sharp 23 inch IPS
1 is 4xx 1 is 5xx
which better
*
Haha depends what you want.
BTW, my U2312HM from CyntrixTech just arrived yesterday. Opened up and my jaw dropped. drool.gif
I chosen Ultrasharp due to 5 years warranty, customer support and good ergonomics.
Panel wise, most 1080p IPS is using the same low-end IPS panel. e-IPS with 6-bit + FRC. nod.gif

that means the difference is just warranty 5 years vs 3 years?
*
Yes but Dell ultrasharp has premium warranty. Just call them up if anything's wrong with the monitor and they will come and replace it. No question asked. You won't find this in other manufacturer.
Ultrasharp has better ergonomics....you can adjust the monitor by rotating, swivel and also height etc. The base of the monitor is sturdy and seems much better than others. I would say all these is worth it because I had monitor that just died after just passing 3 years lol.
