@led_zep_freak:

sorry I didn't manage to answer, the thread got locked.

But I went to lurk around, and I found some gems to read.

http://www.aliverpoolthing.com/2011/07/pep...egy-behind.html

Now, if you've read the material above, then one should probably arrive to the understanding that the entire youth and reserve system was getting tuned to the 4-2-3-1 as a basic formation, to which all managers would try to play to this formation, week in, week out.

The 4-2-3-1 is a very versatile formation that suits Liverpool's used-to-be-famous high tempo+high pressing, irregardless whether we are playing possession or playing direct. (under Rafa, direct, under Hodson, formation shape, and under KD, counter)

and, people who took credit was Frank McParland (he did brought up the likes of Gerrard, Owen, Carragher, etc) and another coach by the name of Marsh.

So Pep Segura was already toiling for probably 2-3 years before this Marsh, but suddenly BR promotes Marsh. (Frank McParland has already been promoted to first team)

I won't speculate as to what MAY have happened, but it was clear that seniority wasn't in question, and BR may have wanted his own men.

What BR's changes to the basis of the formation is a 4-3-3 instead of the 4-2-3-1 which we have used as our basis, so its pretty much of a "leap" than an evolution. The article prior explains nicely why Rafa did that, but since the discussion is about why Pep Segura left, I have no idea.

However, there are VERY STRONG HINTS that BR refused to work under a Sporting Director, and depending on the results, we'll have one installed end of this season and LFC will continue to proceed with the original blueprint of having one Sporting Director, One Head of Scouts, One Managing Director (we already have him) and then an evolved model from the Spanish setups.

borini middle, suarez and sterling on flanks, should be a good 4-3-3 setup that way

Suarez is used to play on the left, and he's normally the man behind the striker as a "wall breaker".

he needs time, because he's a dribbler. he'll make it. he's our superstar!

if he was lacking full match fitness, he wouldnt have started...
pass completion is one thing, useful passes is another.
its fair to say BR's golden boy does far more useful passes tongue.gif

Lucas himself is a A-CM converted into utility CM then before 'remoulded' into D-CM.

He's probably the most complete midfielder bar the fitness issue.

He is the backbone of the Brazillian 4-1-2-2-1 "volante" system, and I don't see how Allen replaces him or competes with him. Both complement each other in the system of 'volante press', which basically means Lucas will serve as a recycler-passer that will receive the ball, passes it back to the defenders or hold and pass to another A-CM. Its very different from what Allen has to do because Allen is basically the "Charlie Adam" of Blackpool -pre-Liverpool, in which he's the 'dictator', and he could pass it anywhere he like. The two roles of the volantes that Lucas and Allen play are 2 different Volante system, and I don't see why BR would only go for a single volante.

Allen is actually a defensive mid.
*
Yes, but the mould and role of both Allen and Lucas are entirely of a different DNA.

Lucas' is based on the primera volante role of the Brazil's 4-1-2-1-2, whereas Allen's of the 'main dictator' in Swansea.

Both roles differ even if their passing is a main component in both roles, and purposes (of delivering)

I am not seeing the logic as to WHY should we even think about offloading Lucas?

perhaps not offload, but his chances of a starting 11 could be limited...apart from the butthurt no.21 fans around...quite a few fans are also expecting a gerrard / sahin / allen midfield to shape up with gerrard playing in the hole.
and now with no.21 probably out for the next 2 months, we can see how the new midfield will shape up without any external butthurt influences.

I still don't see how on a 4-3-3 setup, that a fit Lucas won't be 'needed'. For the little that I know, just because we have Allen, shipping out Lucas then leaves us a very gaping possibility of losing Lucas and Allen, and we'll have a serious hole to cover.

Keeping both is definitely an option, and if both are fit, can be used as utility to compensate for each another's physical capabilities when it comes to personnel switch without compromising the system (assuming that BR is still very adamant about playing 1 system style and no plan B)

The way I look at it, there's a shake up to the line up, and now we're actually able to form a "ghost" or "shadow" starting 11, ala Spain's "team A" and "team B" setup. I do not see any conflicts here. But why is it that you insist Lucas should be out when he clearly complements and fits into the system as a volante? That is puzzling.

And the Old Man would like to sell its players to our neighbour, Everton. Why? to help them to best us with its ex players?

Because they have a partnership plan with Everton?

mind you Everton would sleep in bed with any Rivals of Liverpool, just because they will and they (did) and will do it.

If this is true, I'm sure this die hard kopnite wants to live his dream to play for his childhood club

As supporters we should not deny him of the privilege to play for the Liverpool F.C and its supporters. If he's coming, my only prayer is that he will contribute meaningfully.

When you have a player who is a die hard fan (presumably), it means a lot.

the blame is with FSG.

BR came in at first and said "well we don't have to sell anyone".

Out goes Adam, Kuyt, Maxi, and the list...

In April Tom Werner and Ian Ayre said "We HAVE the resources to compete with the very best in the world". That was RIGHT before KD got the sack.

Now? Can't even cough up an extra 2M for Dempsey.

And Stadium. Oh my blooody #$%^&*( can't they just do it one friggin' miniature section at a time, if they're to upgrade it?

Steven Gerrard's interview:

in one excerpt i find it veeeeeeeeeery interesting.

"Gary Neville said he (Ferguson) wanted me. ...(con't)"

"...They are a fantastic club but that rivalry is there, and it's why Gary could not have played for us either."

Interesting.....

Ian Ayre did a wonderful job as a Managing Director when it comes to negotiating the non-football corporate deals.

I think I shall agree that we really need a strong Director of Football, and somebody with balls to question the OWNERS and the MANAGER.

Honorary Principal, anyone?
