I'm wondering what this statement means, “This new game tells a much broader tale and one that spans centuries,”...

Is this like the entire chronicles of what happened to Gabriel after becoming Dracul, fought off Alucard and Simon Belmont and possibility some other brotherhood sent heroes all the way till how he become a shadow of his former self lurking in an old church in modern times found by Zobek and is now regaining his powers to fight Satan again? The spans of centuries got me imagining a lot of things have happened and wonder which part is it actually going to cover in the game smile.gif

No lock-on?!? shocking.gif Really? The first game has it. Why remove such a basic but important feature?

Right... sorry, my mistake. Now I remember how Castlevania LoS (first game tongue.gif Not referring to those old school 2D or ps2 3D lah) combat camera really is, no actual manual lock-on camera system. The entire boss battle was just the camera auto position itself focusing on the boss on the fly (as seen on the video below where the spider jump around or Gabriel doge roll around, the camera just focus back on the boss). However when dealing with multiple enemies in all direction, the camera just pan out and yeah, you will wish you have manual lock-on camera to deal with tougher enemies first or the ability to manually turn the camera around to watch your back instead of fixed position camera. I remember spamming the area attack like crazy hoping I can kill the troll first before I kill the lesser enemies because I cannot manually lock-on at the troll. Yeah, camera like Darksiders will be great as it offer you total control over it smile.gif

Guys, do you find any music from LoS series to be memorable? It may be me but Castlevania's music has always been very memorable to me and is a very big part of the enjoyment I get from playing Castlevania. Honestly, after playing LoS, it's hard for me to recall any of its music whereas the old Castlevania, I can still hum them even after years of not playing it.. such awesome music smile.gif

Talking about stage design in LoS, I like the view when the camera pan out to see the full castle in the winter night when we were running on the chain to the castle. Epic scenery moment reminding me of when I ran up the stairs just before battling Dracula in Super Castlevania IV! laugh.gif The forest stage look awesome too especially when we jump to cross the chasm like the previous 2D platformer Castlevania. Nostalgic feeling, man! Boss battles are well done.

I don't particularly like the portal-like stage near the end though...haha, warping around ain't my thing. What it does need is more atmosphere though I think and that's what the music failed to bring out. Like comparing Diablo 3 to Diablo 1, the atmosphere just lacking that special gothic haunting feeling? tongue.gif

Exactly how I feel, "same, overused orchestral score every medieval fantasy game has". This is Castlevania for heaven's sake, how can the music be so non-extraordinary!!! Unforgiveable...hehe tongue.gif It lack the personality of older 2D castlevania games. Even the ps2 3D Castlevania Lament of Innocence has a great Leon's theme music! Why LoS did you not improve your music??? Music score 5/10 here too. I want to be mesmerized again by the beautiful Castlevania music like Vampire Killer, Bloody Tears, Dance of Pales, The Lost Painting, Crystal Teardrops, etc biggrin.gif

The puzzles are okay, some can be tough to figure out at first. Some I solved by blind luck...haha laugh.gif

"Only my father, Gabriel Belmont can destroy Dracula" - what the heck is this supposed to mean?!? rclxub.gif

There is no cameo of Simon Belmont or the Lost Soul, aka Fate in the video so I'm guessing they both are not in this final game. I hope they can at least mentioned what happened to them. Now we have Victor Belmont instead sweat.gif

Dunno why, but the video above reminds me a lot of Dante in DMC, the red overcoat, the big sword, the fiery gauntlet...haha. Nice boss battle though! Look forward to it wink.gif

So what was your first impression of the game, Memphiz? Some reviews said stealth in a Castlevania game is out of place?

yes, it is out of place.

the game tries to implement more stuffs (maybe because they were under the impression that sequels must have >9000 new ways for the game to be played) but ended up spoiling everything.

I do agreed more doesn't necessarily means better. And it might be true in this case but we will know for sure once we have a chance to play the game. If it's bad, I hope other games don't follow their example, I need no stealth in my DMC hack & slash game...haha laugh.gif

the gold armor. so far, beat the boss at pharmaceutical. stealth part, really looks weird sweat.gif

need to use silent takedown to go through the stage. sometimes can get confused. sweat.gif

love the new skill tree though. they replaced light magic with the sword and chaos magic with the fist. each got own skill tree which can be unlocked with exp like previous game. i haven't mastered any skills yet, so dunno if got any changes when you master any skill.

graphic is awesome, and not taxing my rig. can run smoothly without lag. cutscenes still 30fps.

Now I know how Alucard is born ohmy.gif

Okay, we can agreed on stealth part in Castlevania game is weird but is it enjoyable like say, stealth takedown in Batman Arkham series or frustrating to play and broken ? hmm.gif What about the camera? Able to see enemies attacking you or they are still focusing on panoramic scenery shots most of the time? laugh.gif

Huh? Some of you still don't know how Alucard is born!? I mean, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate was all about that~ Shouldn't be a surprise sweat.gif

Neither can I. I rented a 3DS to play that game and Resident Evil Revelations. They have release Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate in HD for xbox360 and ps3 too but no pc version though..

Completed the game! Love it even if the ending is lackluster. The artwork is amazing as the two previous LoS games, you can see so many details gone into creation of a mystical castle like those giant statues, doorway, and some of the panoramic shots of the scenery is just awesome! The seamless transition is welcomed compared to LoS 1 chapter progression but they should have put in a boss rush mode and cutscenes gallery because after you completed the game, there' no way for you to enjoy battling certain bosses or view certain cutscenes without having to replay a new game all over, in LoS 1, you can replay chapters so that's somewhat not an issue there. The boss fights are entertaining enough and the weapon mastery is fun to level up. QTE are a lot lesser and not as hard as LoS 1. Stealth part is short and linear giving you a change of pace, doesn't ruin the game for me. The map could have been more useful if they provide locations of health and magic fountains, as well as where the exit lead to or a full world map like Metroid games. Dodo birds make hunting items easier without having to remember where all the backtrack item locations are but could have save me the backtracking if they allowed more dungeon keys to be kept on me. The camera is 360' like Darksiders so big improvement there over LoS 1 in combat. The puzzles are a lot lesser and not as challenging as LoS 1. To me, the plot is also weaker than LoS 1, not much plot twist this time around.

After finishing Revelations, I have a sudden urge to replay Castlevania SOTN again...lol. I missed the awesome catchy soundtracks and a really badass Alucard. The Alucard in Revelations is not epic enough in character compared to SOTN. If SOTN was remade with LOS graphic and combat system while having the same soundtracks and rpg elements, it would be the perfect Castlevania for me~
