QUOTE(wriza @ Aug 17 2012, 01:24 AM) UM is based on merit. if you got what they want, itll surely be easy to get in. the population of malay and chinese in UM is pretty even. enginering.accnt.biz....majority chinese...no prospect course aka pengajian melayu.pengajian islam.sastera..majority malay...no say 50%..more chinese than malay....the reasn...u all know why...only best of the best will get the seat in um...but for master is very easy as lng as ur pointer above than 3...for first degree...very hard This post has been edited by jack~daniel: Aug 17 2012, 06:15 AM

QUOTE(JohnDoe93 @ Aug 18 2012, 03:31 PM) Engineering 90% chinese? That's because all the malays get to go to UTM. UM engineering nothing special. Most of malay are not qualified to enter UM due to the result not excellent, most of engineering student(electrical,mechanical, chemical,civil) um are 4.0 from matrix and STPM. UTM engineering very easy to get n very easy to score, they have their own book and all lecturer will refer to the book when preparing the exam questions, so that's why many students can score and rate of student repeated the subject very low compare to UM(5 years is normal), while in UM,the question cant be predictable and most of lecturers are foreigners/engineering consultants, UM doesn't have the reference book like what others universities does, and most of lecturers preparing the open question and not based on the lecture class, i can say even u bring the book to the exam, u cant answer the question because most of the question are very open and u never seen the question before(u cant find in a book or lecturer notes), there are no tips from lecturer on exam, There are many 3.0 and above graduate students from UTM, while in UM, if u can pass 3, meaning u are good student because most of student graduated below 3 especially student from matrix/asasi UM. UTM engineering still accept 3.0 from matrix/STPM(i believe most of them are matrix student) student while there is not such kind of clowns in engineering UM. One things good about um, the live is free, not like others university, now UM has many international students for undergraduate and the percentage of malay students in UM are not majority anymore, so u can see hot chicks wearing short skirt around university(only in UM for public U category) and the UM gate 24 hours open(only in UM for public U category) since its located in the kl area. Dont worry about the job if u are graduated from UM, I can say 100% got a job after final exam, while in UTM there are many jobless compared to UM and student english proficiency is low.( Most of the class conducted in Malay).

QUOTE(kepong87 @ Aug 18 2012, 05:21 PM) UM international ranking is keep dropping, why not try Hong Kong or Singapore? Your statement totally wrong UM ranking keep dropping...please do more research... The ranking not only based on r&d, but the percentage of international student, lecturer to students and so on...u can check the criteria by urself...any England University (Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College) or US university, once u enter, degree on ur hand...the Malaysia system very difficult...

QUOTE(taktaulol @ Aug 19 2012, 10:34 PM) so you're saying curfews, can't bring cars for first years are malay culture? i meant u can mix with different sex, can dating, can wear sexy...Others public U cant and u will get the ticket and counselling..some of outside students very surprised when they see the boy and girls hostel very near( u can see boys/girls in thee room because too near) and the student free to walk in and out ( only at lobby), UM is very free..u can walk in and out anytime from uni... QUOTE(JohnDoe93 @ Aug 19 2012, 10:52 PM) I don't doubt what you have to say about UM, but you have to state some source for your info regarding UTM. They are not reputable for nothing. if u have friends in UTM ,u can get the info from them...i got the info from my friends and the student who got into UTM during my time....very hard to find the student especially from matrix being offered to study in critical course in UM..

QUOTE(wriza @ Aug 17 2012, 02:31 AM) Indeed it is funny bcz some ignoramus still thinks that UM practice the quota system UM the only public Uni who doesn't practice the quota(BUMI-NON BUMI) system, their selection base on merit and student qualification..so many nerds...no hot chicks in UM, so dont expect like taylor college, u can see most of the girls with glasses, loose shirt with sport shoes,,

[quote=xlcs,Aug 21 2012, 06:52 PM] UM engineering undergraduate here.
Slightly misleading statement. For my course, there are about 60 students, roughly half of them are Malays. And in fact, all of them scored 4.0 (cut-off point for my course) in their pre-U exams, either Matriculation or UM Asasi. So, on the surface, their results are as 'excellent' as the other non-Bumis.
Bro, u junior than me, i was graduated 5 years ago, there are many 4.0 matrix student during ur time because the exam now much more simpler, different from my time.Not so many 4.0 matrix student, so the malay percentage very low especially electrical and mechanical.s0 dont compare ur time and my time,- some department has many malay, but the course not consider as popular course - manufacturing, enviroment engineering, and so on - i guess our time is different, since like now many students can get 4.o easily from matrix..)
Not true. Some less popular UM engineering courses will still accept students as low as the ~3.2 range Check my post before u make any statement-(electrical,mechanical, chemical,civil)
