Plextor SSD comes with 5 years of warranty too. slightly cheaper than Vertex 4 and other brands iirc.
i got one inside my rig but benchmark result looked pretty weird because of lousy AMD chipset/driver sweat.gif

Buy SSD no need the best one lah, the "best bang for buck" is very important too, intel 335 selling 238 SGD currently, pretty cheap too, SanDisk 240GB also priced very reasonable but not good compare to intel one.

QUOTE(-oc-gassa @ Dec 9 2012, 01:18 AM)
Agreed .. at first im using Cosair Sandforce which is fast but not stable... then buy M4 a little bit slower but very stable.. ya at first i can feel the difference between these two controller but then who care for 2-3 second late for every day computing.. i prefer with stable and if you find the cheap reliable brand why not..
*
Actually I'm looking for a SSD to become my main hard drive where I would be doing all my picture editing works such as Lightroom (first priority) and then Photoshop. My current 7200rpm HDD is a little slow in loading up the full 18 mega pixel RAW pictures and when I'm doing intensive batch editing it can be a little slow.

So the SSD will run my OS and I would put about 32GB worth of pictures into the SSD for editing purposes and when I'm done with it, I'll transfer it to my secondary 1TB HDD and my 2TB backup external drive..

So I'm kinda asking, is the Intel 520 series overkill for my purposes? I'm also looking at the 330 series since the read/write spead do not different by that much. I do know 330 series gives 3 years whereas 520 series gives 5 years of warranty.

And btw, read/write speed affect RAW picture loading in Lightroom 4? Also, time taken to export it to CS6....and then "saving it for the web" which now would take me ages lol

Budget around RM300-400 I guess laugh.gif

i read this thread barely thorough and... can i say that if i can afford an intel SSD, just go for it and forget other brand regardless its in the same price range?

their warranty support is as legendary as Dell's lol

I'm going for Intel too smile.gif smile.gif

out of stock for about 1 months + too at my place biggrin.gif

and yes, that's so true. even i'm on a asynchronous SSD - corsair force 3 60GB, I also feel it's very fast already. and thinking to change to higher capacity and better one when price drop tongue.gif:P
*
If Corsair Force 120GB vs Intel 330 series 120GB vs Sandisk Extreme 120GB? Let's just put aside reliability and warranty support aside first tongue.gif

Yes it's cheap and runs on refined Marvel controller. Bought my plextor M5S 256GB @ rm 595 each.

Any reason not to go with Intel 335 series which is slightly cheaper?

Intel uses SandForce controller and is widely claim that they perform at best for compressible data but sucks at incompressible data. Where else Marvel controller is different. It can be customized firmware to blend with manufacurer requirement. Crucial and Plextor is a good example using marvel controller. The only good thing about intel is they provide screw, adaptor mount and SATA6 cable. laugh.gif

Hi guys, wanna ask a bit about SSDs. I noticed some SSDs like the Plextor M5Pro, Samsung 840Pro and the OCZ Vertex 4 have high IOPS values compared to Intel's SSDs. Does having much higher IOPS give significant advantage in terms of real world applications?

I'm talking about the things we do everyday like opening various programs such as browser, CS6, LR4, loading camera RAW files, loading game map, etc. How much difference is there between a 50k IOPS vs a 120k IOPS in terms of speed of launching programs or basically the general RESPONSIVENESS of applications in our Operating System?

I'm no benchmark enthusiast or anything, just a simple normal user smile.gif

Care to share your views! Thanks! biggrin.gif

Try Radioshack @Borders. IIRC They're selling the Sandisk Extreme 120GB SSD at RM43X.

Minimum RM30 has to be spent on books, the rest can spend at Radioshack tongue.gif

Plus, you get freebies like 6 Krispy Kreme doughnuts, 1 complimentary Chatime drink, Borders vouchers and many more tongue.gif

Borders with Radioshack inside: Gardens Mall, The Curve, Tropicana City Mall. Not sure about other cities/states.

The one I saw with the Sandisk SSD is in Gardens Mall. Not sure about other places...
