By the way, I have a question... If I let the PC idle (download stuff) for 24 hours will it generally degrade my SSD performance and lifespan?
*
depends on ure ssd's i/o consistency and nand degrade

on commercial units
no.1 is neutron gtx ( heck its almost as good as enterprise units)(pricey and performance not as good as sandforce (with nand) or samsungs or marvel on writes/reads)
no.2 sandforce (but has nand degrade issues)

nah dont worry too much

i run torrents off my ssd about 20gb D and 50gb U a day for the last 2 years on x25m Raid 0 x 3. Estimated life remaining so far at 80 percent and the read/write array on trim just dropped slightly

host writes on
SSD 1. 14.46tb
SSD 2. 13.88tb
SSD 3. 14.25tb

so no worries.

use it till it dies lol.

How do you shift the torrent to another HDD ? I am using SSD for OS bootup and running program, all my media files: picture , music , video stores in WD green. I start up the Utorrent in SSD , but set the saving location in WD green ? Am I doing right ? but it seems after the files being download from Internet , OS will save in a temp folder in SSD , before going to WD green.

Torrent -> SSD -> WD green

This will involve too much read and write that will shorten SSD lifespan right ?

How to make

Torrent -> WD green directly ?

What is the current market price for Samsung 840 Pro 512GB SSD in Malaysia?

Am at oversea now, if it's not much cheaper in Malaysia then I might just buy it here.

Install uTorrent on SSD.
When saving files for download select the path for your WD green drive.

It's that simple. And torrents do not create a temp folder, direct downloads does.

And for the millionth time, stop worrying about reducing SSD lifespan. doh.gif

uTorrent does not have much impact as this program is pretty small, save it on slow thumbdrive/sdcard also can lol rclxms.gif

And yeah, most ppl dont read older previous post, seriously, ppl use SSD because of the low latency and high IOPS, and average SSD lifespan might be longer than consumer desktop HDD. i've RMA many of my Western Digital HDD already.
This is how i use my Plextor 256GB SSD Everyday

If so takut SSD premature death, backup your data frequently doh.gif

SSD is highly recommended for OS boot up, main programs and games.

Your video, picture, songs and movies. Is best to be stored in HDD. If possible, invest in WD Black or Red series. I don't trust so much on GREEN series unless is AV-GP green series.

In fact i stored my programs and musics on my USB thumbdrive lol sweat.gif cause i keep switching between new and old OS.

Green had aggressive head parking problem which led to many earlier batch premature death. Newer batch seems okay already, Black isn't good either. Thanks to lousy WD harddisk, i've RMA 4 of their HDD and now my comp have 9TB of useless storage space doh.gif sweat.gif rclxub.gif

No need Black unless you want longer warranty, Blue or AV-GP series is already good enough.
And there are no reliable HDD brand, scheduled backup/RAID1 your HDD is the rule of thumb to prevent data loss.

Is WD Green really that unreliable?

I have a 2TB WD Green purchased late last year which I plugged to my DLink NAS. No complains though. Or maybe I'm the sole user and I only power on the NAS during weekend. Plus I presume I'm not that aggressive on the read and write as the drive is shared out over wireless network. You know how the transfer speed is over wireless. tongue.gif

i use SSD as a main drive and several daily tasks stored in the ssd

while big data such as games, movies, and software installer are stored in the HDD and located inside the HDD BAY. configured with hot plug, i simply disconnect the drive and turned it off while system is running when not using the drive rclxms.gif

Earlier batch, i bought it right after green drive came out, and both showing abnormal smart status after a year of usage.

But aggressive head parking was actually not related to failure of the green hdd. my fault sweat.gif
Buy many of them still died anyway whistling.gif

Ok here is the thing WD blacks require active cooling especially the current gen. They run hot.

SSD's now are better than ever and they can handle multi tasking. Hence where on I/O consistency the sandforce beats marvel, samsung. Meaning i would trust my torrent rig with sandforce rather than marvel and samsung controllers. However since the use of nand's sandforce degrades.

The only one top of the line that is very good at this is Neutron GTX which is what corsair is marketing as multi tasking heavy use. Its also good for some light server loads so far. Its enterprise grade on I/O consisntecy and the nand doesnt degrade.
