This is a better product:

The moment my old Car Mount dies on me (and looking at the dying suction cup, it'll be sooner rather than later) I'm getting one of these.

Additional benefit is that it doesn't cover your camera, and if postioned right, you can use your camera to record journeys or even set a Tasker profile to start recording if shock detected (aka. Accident recorder).

Yum. The never ending possibilities of Android.

And dang, curved SPs are hard to put on. I wasted 2 (yes, 2) Mercury Color Screens trying to get it on perfect lol (and yes, the Color Screens are curved). Hinge method summore. Maybe I have jittery hands, sigh.

Thankfully it's gorgeous when put on, even if the black one (and ONLY the Black ones) blocks the button LEDs. The Anti-Glare texture is exquisite, not as rough as my MediaDevils, but just as anti-glare. Planning to get summore spares.

But once you go curved, other non-full coverage SPs simply start feeling sucky. Especially if, like me, you rely on a lot of edge gestures. Even IF install is such a PITA.

BTW, Selamat Hari Raya all.

Google maps has so much detail these days, so becoming harder to justify going for the paid apps compared to the free google mapsĀ  hmm.gif

THIS. Getting Nav to work is such a breeze too, to me anyway.

I have Sygic as backup though, just in case I get stuck in no-data land (GASP!).

Latest Siyah kernel is out too (1.5 Final). No more low memory lags and slowdowns in low memory situations (due to a revert to 3.0.15 Linux base from 3.0.39 which has a low memory bug) - which means WOO HOO FULL ON SWAPPING!

only that much... the launcher also keep on restarting... try to on a few then press home button... that time it will lag to go back to the home screen...
BTW i do not think is apps related problem... mostly is the samsung software engineering problem...
they kill running task too easily... that cause the phone to lag too, coz when u want to go back to home screen it needs to restart the launcher again...

Stock ROM? If so yes I agree memory management is quite bad for something that has 1GB RAM.

S2 is better, but you must understand, for thr S2 to reach that level of optimization, it took a couple of (ok, more than just a couple of) updates.

Give it a few more versions, it should shape up. Hopefully JB makes it better too.

OR, you can go the Custom ROM way, though this is not for everyone. With some Sammy bloatware kicked out + swap, I could very well run more than 10 stuff at once - concurrently - with little issue.

wow, ok... i told myself not to root it... until i make a decision to keep or sell... it is a BAD BAD ROM by Samsung... no offense... others makers that i'm using on hand now did not make the similar mistake... Single Core on ICS stock ROM with SE Xperia does better, of course my DZ on Sense 4.0 Customer ROM also not bad... but really does not expect a Quad Core Phone with plenty of RAM perform like that...

cheers...

It's simple. Sammy shipped the S3 with 1GB of RAM - AND A SHITLOAD OF BUILT IN FEATURES. Not a good combi really.

You'd think that Smart Stay, Direct Call, Allshare and whatevs don't eat RAM? If it's built into the framework, it will. They SHOULD have given us 2GB for sure. Or at least 1.5GB (which they are already planning to put into the Note 2).

I mean, free RAM is unused RAM, sure. But if a browser with some tabs open is all it takes to force my music player running in the background to shut down out of RAM issues, than Sammy really messed up somewhere.

I freaking don't care if I have ZERO free RAM available at boot, if I can multitask heavily without issues.

Not that I hate the S3, I love it, and I still think it's the BEST Android device out there (RIGHT NOW - taking into account that you can ONLY get the Korean 4G 2GB RAM S3 IN KOREA). But I do agree it has RAM issues.

I'm solving it (partly) with swap, but the point is I REALLY SHOULDN'T HAVE TO.

Nonetheless, if you think that Sammy makes BAD BAD ROMs, you'd better stay away from the One X. That thing leaks RAM like a sieve.

So does that mean if we flash stock android ROM like cyanogenmod or supernexus, it will speed up / improve the S3's performance and RAM usage by milestones compared to stock samsung touchwiz? ohmy.gif

Theoretically, yea.

But you lose features that is baked into the Sammy framework like MHL HDMI mirroring. And stuff.

Plus there's that BAD BAD CM10 (and Supernex too is based from CM10) memory leak that nobody has managed to REALLY solve yet, so after a while you'll be right back where you started. With RAM issues.

Java has never really been good at RAM efficiency anyway. You'd expect an entire OS based on the damn language to be any better?

Some people just don't use the S3 as heavily as others. There's also a chance that you got a bad unit. If it's so bad, complain at Samsung SC. You might get a new unit with less problems.

Also, while the RAM management of the S3 is NOT the best out there, it can be fixed. I'm running swap and am happy what?

One thing you HAVE to know though. The amount of FREE RAM in Android is a useless number. RAM is there to be used. Like I said it doesn't matter if you have ZERO free RAM if you can run many things at once.

Yes, the S3 has issues running many things at once (at least when you use it stock without rooting), but lags? I can say for sure my S2 lags more.

And using something with issues, whining about it having a problem when you CLEARLY DO NOT WANT TO fix it (or at least make it better) with rooting (or going back to Sammy) - is like driving a car on empty, not wanting to fill up petrol, when there's petrol stations all over around you.

Doesn't matter how much you love the car. Whining is NOT GONNA FILL UP YOUR TANK.

Also try out SkypeMod. It's modded with extra features, might work better. No root needed.
