QUOTE(sfwong1 @ Aug 18 2012, 02:43 PM) root = giving user the admin persmission to do changes ( using titanium backup , to install a clockworkmod for on phone flashing of custom rom)jailbreak = gives user ability to use cxdix and download cracked apps. Btw, android can install those apps without root . so thats about it. Closed topic on Jailbreak and pirated apps. for voice recording, where is thev recording directory for saved files does anyone know ;_; ?
Added on August 18, 2012, 5:06 pm QUOTE(apisfires @ Aug 18 2012, 04:27 PM) also it's something similar to disabling User account control (UAC) for windows 7, in the sense that once you root your phone, your more susceptible to hacks and malware e.g. Mempodroid. But this is a risk all of us who root our phones accept. The smart ones obviously install security apps like avast mobile security, adaway, SuperSU, amongst others for precautionary measures So if you manage the security of your android, then i think the risk is well worth it, seeing as a lot of useful apps require that your android smartphone is rooted. QUOTE(apisfires @ Aug 18 2012, 05:08 PM) sorry to insult, not my intention. Let me rephrase that, what i mean't was people who were prudent in regards to security matters. Better ? If you don't install much apps, then less risk malware/virus can get your android, but then what is the fun then of owning an android smartphone well let me just share the most useful of the security apps being avast mobile security. 1. it's free 2. it's was top 2 in the 2012 mobile anti virus roundup by professionals in terms of detection and removal of virus/malware 3. this AV is especially good for rooted phones unlike kaspersky which lacks being able to install to the root. 4. if your phone gets lost or stolen, there is a ton of security measures in place. You can locate the phone via gps, you can prevent the phone data from being read using encryption or auto wipe, if the SIM card gets replaced, you will be notified what the new sim card phone number is etc etc... 5. it doesn't drain much battery. the app most cpu/power intensive activity occurs, when scanning apps when your installing them, and also scheduled scans, or manually forced scans. it's very efficient. so for this minimally needed app, i don't see much reason not to use it The 2nd app simply because it's just as good. Adaway. 1. it detects adware 2. it blocks them 3. yes it's also free 4. very efficient uses little power unless running the scan manually Without adaway you will be plagued by lots of adaware traffic, and push notifications especially from free apps on googleplay (and even some paid apps as well).
