If u are applying for graduate programs, yes.. Shell still looking for fresh graduates regardless of disciplines, tech or non-tech. For matured hire, it's post by post vacancies basis.

I'm waiting for my SRD for about a month now. Is it OK if I call/email them asking when I will be called? I wonder if it's rude to do so.

BTW, about 2 weeks ago, a lady from Shell HR called me mentioning that there are two positions available, one in SITI and one in Miri. She asked me which one I'm interested in but she didn't mention anything about SRD. I wonder if I should call/email them to ask about it?

Nope, SRD is held almost on regular basis. Besides, when u r applying graduate program, u r not applying for a specific position, unlike matured hire, which is more vacancy-dependant.

err.. OK, its like this. When u go for graduate SRD, there will be managers/leads/bosses from few depts/disciplines/etc in the session to gauge ur performance. And depending on ur performance, they might or might not impressed with u and willing to take u under their wing, provided there is vacancy in the 1st place. It is a norm for Shell to keep those 'turned down' candidates within 1 yr for possibility of other vacancies (meaning, there's someone else better than u for the time being, but should we still need u later, we will contact u again). Remember, graduate SRD is about competing with a group of people... everybody is trying to outdo each other. That's why, some may get immediate (fast response) offer, some might have to wait few weeks, etc, and some got turned down. Depending on the acceptance of say 1st choice candidate, and next, next subs... that's when shell might contact those previously turned down.  1 of my padawan is actually a mechanical static - prone person. However, during the SRD, it was assessed that he is more suited to do mechanical rotating equipment, and parked in RE skillpool.  For matured hire, u dont compete with anyone during SRD. U reach SRD stage after been screened through with all the other applicants. From there, 1 will be selected to attend SRD.

contract? U mean contract employment? Then, its a no. Contract staff are more expensive than permanent.
