Hi

I would like to know if Shell is interviewing for commercial roles as well or only technical?

It is shame that such a great company, with established recruitment process, does not discloses any information regarding areas of available positions.

Yes, Shell do employ commercial/administrative staff as well as technical. Go to shell.com/career/ for vacancy info.

Thanks

I am aware of that Shell do employ commercial staff, (last year successsfully interviewed only could not attend SRD due to personal reason) but my question is are they currently looking for commercial roles at this moment.

yeah they are. well i hope so anyway because i'm interviewing for a comercial role. how was the interview last year?

Actually received a rejection so after applying last year, only to receive call few months later with explanation that rejection was due to non availability of suitable position, so they asked me to attend interview for a new position became available. Unfortuanatley i was already working on a contract position then.

The interview was pretty alright they, mostly they want through my resume to understand more if i required qualities. I passed the interview.

But they asked me come for SRD immediately which i could not make it due to prior commitment thus declined to attend SRD.

If u are applying for graduate programs, yes.. Shell still looking for fresh graduates regardless of disciplines, tech or non-tech. For matured hire, it's post by post vacancies basis.

Thanks for reply.

Talk about commercial side, between sales, marketing and upstream, which one offer better long term career prospect as well as prepares for better exit options?

Sorry if this question has been asked before.

I'm waiting for my SRD for about a month now. Is it OK if I call/email them asking when I will be called? I wonder if it's rude to do so.

BTW, about 2 weeks ago, a lady from Shell HR called me mentioning that there are two positions available, one in SITI and one in Miri. She asked me which one I'm interested in but she didn't mention anything about SRD. I wonder if I should call/email them to ask about it?
*
What was your reply?

She actually called you to check your interest to arrange an SRD for same, do not worry you would certainly get call for SRD.

You would not gain anything by calling them.

calling won't harm anyone
jus call to refresh your status in their memory
then they will push it

i have many friends who did it
and got response fast

as some wait till a year before they get the call
so pushing is useful to a certain extent
*
Pushing and chasing would not help, as they only call for SRD when they have vacancy in the chosen field. Like myself last year was rejected without interview, but as soon as position become available called for interview (unfortunately could not attend SRD due to work commitments).

This time applied again and immediately received email saying, they do not have suitable position available, would call me as soon as position available.

Nope, SRD is held almost on regular basis. Besides, when u r applying graduate program, u r not applying for a specific position, unlike matured hire, which is more vacancy-dependant.

Thanks,

But on base of my own experience of last year, i was declined only to recalled for interview few month later, again for SRD i am clearly told that they conduct on on base of vacancy available.

At time of invitation for SRD, i was clearly told bout positions available even received detailed job description. And you can clearly see that same thing happen to rege_against, he was told about two available position and promised to pass his CV to the department managers for SRD.

err.. OK, its like this. When u go for graduate SRD, there will be managers/leads/bosses from few depts/disciplines/etc in the session to gauge ur performance. And depending on ur performance, they might or might not impressed with u and willing to take u under their wing, provided there is vacancy in the 1st place. It is a norm for Shell to keep those 'turned down' candidates within 1 yr for possibility of other vacancies (meaning, there's someone else better than u for the time being, but should we still need u later, we will contact u again). Remember, graduate SRD is about competing with a group of people... everybody is trying to outdo each other. That's why, some may get immediate (fast response) offer, some might have to wait few weeks, etc, and some got turned down. Depending on the acceptance of say 1st choice candidate, and next, next subs... that's when shell might contact those previously turned down.  1 of my padawan tongue.gif is actually a mechanical static - prone person. However, during the SRD, it was assessed that he is more suited to do mechanical rotating equipment, and parked in RE skillpool.  For matured hire, u dont compete with anyone during SRD. U reach SRD stage after been screened through with all the other applicants. From there, 1 will be selected to attend SRD.

Thanks for explanation. You are very helpful indeed.

contract? U mean contract employment? Then, its a no. Contract staff are more expensive than permanent.
*
You are right for Other countries, but not for SEA region, here contract staff are cheaper then permanent staff, I am already working for IT's big O for past 15 months on contract.

The pay is on par with regular staff, but we are not entitled for all other benefits so we are cheaper resource.

Have you had the interview? And what position are you applying for??
*
I passed the interview last year, but unfortunately declined to attend SRD due to some personal reason, and applied again for commercial position this year, we immediately received an email regretting that no suitable position available.

I am wondering of it is due to my history?

Although i feel professionally i am much better candidate after having a high level regional business experience at US MNC.
