High ping issues is the Thomson router problem. Don't know how many times need to repeat this.

QUOTE(gogetter83 @ Dec 8 2012, 03:58 PM) That's not true. Maxis have worse peering compared to TM. That's why the ping is worse. If local ping is good, but international ping to game servers are bad, how is it router problem? The Thomson router are known for its crap latency/ping issues. Changing it will definitely provide you a better gaming experience but don't know to what extend you are expecting from it.I've tried the Thomson, Unifi's D-link, and WR-841ND with OpenWRT, my brother still complains lousy latency for gaming on Maxis. Change router also no point, Maxis simply not good for gaming, stick to UniFi. I played 5 different online games everyday but don't have any issues for latency/ping after changing the router. My both house currently have UniFi VIP 20 and Maxis 10MB respectively which I don't see a difference in gaming at all. In fact I'm more dissatisfied with UniFi than Maxis. It has this problem of 'disconnecting' players if more than 3 people are playing the same game. Maxis doesn't. |

QUOTE(botakai @ Dec 8 2012, 05:17 PM) Yes I do but not much. I still prefer Dota 1 in G@rena somehow. Less stress. But still for Dota 2, I didnt experience any delay issues often. Only sometimes.QUOTE(gogetter83 @ Dec 8 2012, 06:59 PM) i don't know if Thomson is known for such issues.... all I know is I don't get any improvement from changing routers, same crap. Maybe you're lucky... I'm not so good with network field but I do have a family member that is actually an expert at this field. Yes I been told by him that Maxis routing is pure crap which is exactly like what you said. But still somehow I didn't get any lags from my game. Currently im playing 2 games from SEA and 1 from international server. For the international server, im getting less than 90 ping from all the players. Either way it doesn't matter to me how big they route around the world as long as it works fine on my gaming. What is a known fact is that Maxis network itself has terrible latency compared to TM due to IX peering agreement (I know some IX people, this what they say to be expected). I've tried bypassing the router with a linux PC with VLAN tagging connected directly to TM modem. Same latency issue. Trace route shows many hops to a destination. For example, trace route to Starhub, why does it go from SG to HK then back to SG? What's up with that? QUOTE(pisanq @ Dec 8 2012, 07:32 PM) Real culprit behind Maxis latency issue is poor routing in Maxis network. Thomson router issue add more pain to routing issue Yes this is exactly what I mean. |
