agreed on the auto wiper. but for me, i dun put it in auto mode, coz avtime when I start the car, wiper will wipe once no matter its rain or not. BTW, the right hand side wiper got a lil bit jumping when wiping? y huh? blink.gif

auto headlight is great, but I wonder is the static light can be turned off? keep on n off maybe will shorten its spend life (just my 2cents) tongue.gif

Infiniti-the part i like the most... "High 音sweet ,middle 音perfect, strong bass... 1 word ~ TRANSPARENT!!" just it wil be better if there is a 6-7" screen like US version.

i played my 4GB mirco SD card with USB adapter. played well...

no dare to stress the engine coz haven't go for 1st service...

Nexen tyres is damn noisy even at speed of 60km/hr... but once i check the tyre pressure... 43kpi???? shocked me... after reduce to recommended pressure ok a bit... no budget to change as well... cry.gif

overall, K5 is the best for my own opinion... I LOVE MY K5...
Jumping wipers is what ive experienced myself. PLease send an email to cmd@naza.com.my and say you have this problem. Some of the K5's have this problem (including mine). They have not found the cause of it. Some SC's say its because of the motor located there which gets heated up, some claim its the wipers, some say wax on the widscreen in that location while some say its the windscreen itself. Kia Glenmarie is now ordering wiper sets from Korea to replace mine. I suggest you send that email fast and make alot of noise and demand a replacement. They will do it. DO not rely on verbal communication.

WHat static light are u refering to? Static bending lights or the DRL? Shortening lifespans should never be a concern. So leave it as it is.

As for tyres, make sure you rotate (front to back) every 10,000km or lesser. This will ensure an even wear. Nexen tyres are not durable so dont practice hard braking. A K5 owner that i know of, already has 2 tyres worn out despite being less than 12 months old.

Hmm dont have the jumping issue with the right wiper....  not sure about the static light..  but one thing I found out is if i leave my car in auto mode and press lock, the light will remain lid. I have to press the lock again the second time to turn off the light.  Kinda good in making sure the car really is locked i guess.
U need to read the owners book more and understand the various functions. The lights ure refering to are the Follow Me Home lights which are designed to stay on for a few secs after the engine is switched off. This is to enable you to provide illumination while u open your front gate/door. The pressing again to switch off the light may be purely coincidence. The lights will go off by itself after about 10 secs or so.

Hi Bro Cybermaster98, how is the Korean team check up your car...?
Was quite ok. I had 3 main issues:

1) Juddering wipers - was much reduced after my last visit to Red Cube PJ where they removed wax. But now Glenmarie will replace my wipers again. But the main problem is actually the design of the blades. So this isnt a long term solution. Will replace wipers and then see later.

2) Allignment pulling to the left - there's a slight pull but they said its still within normal limits.

3) Aircon smell during first 5 secs after cold start - Koreans recommended Naza to buy a special fungus cleaner and then do a complete cleaning of the entire system and piping.

Rain X does last at least 3 months on my wira and it works great. Not sure about wiper juddering, did not happen on my wira which i used for 7 years..  i may had skip using it for a few times.

The power is comparable with Passat, or maybe slightly less, but I havent push the engine far. Some report they can feel the Nu is more powerful than Theta II..  not sure about this..  but its definately enough for Malaysia driving.

As for tyres, it is true that the stock Nexen was overinflated at 40psi. The recommended is stated at 33/35. Could overinflation cause the break down?
Bro, i suggest you don't apply any Rain X or any chemical on the windscreen. Many of the K5's are facing a problem with juddering wipers (right side) which Kia is trying to find a solution for. If you go and apply Rain X and then you face a problem, Kia will not entertain you at all. Take my advice and hold off the Rain X for a few months. Its not a huge neccessity.

On the power issue. The K5 is no match for the Passat. Please dont ever tell ppl this la bro. Ull get laughed at. biggrin.gif
The Passat has got 52Nm torque more than the K5 which is why its 0-100kmph acceleration is more than 2 secs faster.

All those who bought the K5 last year were well aware of the tyre inflation. It was shared on this thread and all of us ensured that we lowered the tyre pressure according to manufacturer's recommendations. My blowout was not because of that.

Good question... let me flip my coin to decide... hmm... coins only got 2 faces...
Bro, I did a test on the fuel tank capacity today. This time i stopped filling after the first click (67L) and then drove long distance. The first bar disappeared after only 100km which is well below the normal 170-180km it takes to drop when i fill to the absolute max. Both at same speed. So the extra fuel that i pump in does contribute towards the overall mileage.

Yes.. it gets shinny and repel the water easily. It reduces dirt as well. For my pearl white K5.. its a must do.
But after some times ull notice a slight reduction on the overal shine. The most important part of maintaining the coating is to clay bar the body at least once a week.

QUOTE(ericwen @ Feb 15 2013, 11:37 PM)
hi everyone,

few questions on k5 optima.

a. i haven't test drive this car but i sat on the car in the show room. 1 thing which i notice very obvious...

there's no hand brake. But instead there's a leg brake on the left side. Normally my car I can rest my left leg. But this left brake is kinda blocking it, feel uncomfortable. Is this normal?

I am 6" tall so I feel my legs not so comfortable.

b. What's the differences between k5 2013 over 2012?

c. The car interior,hmm.. a bit like plastic. I compare between vw jetta, mazda 6 (new one) and optima (not sure which version, but seen an old show room car before CNY at Kia federal highway). Plus the leather seats like a bit whitish. I wonder whether the leathers can last long?

d. How about the power? I tried mazda cx-5, really underpowered. Jetta is really powerful. How about this car? Coz the body is long and the engine is 2.0 only, can it tahan?

I noticed a lot of people buy Kia Optima K5. Despite the features, how about the resale value of this car?

I need some help on deciding what to buy my next car. K5 seems to fall within my budget.

Any help? Thanks.
a) Im 6 feet tall as well and i havent had any issues with the brake pedal blocking my left leg. You can still rest your leg well enuf since the brake pedal is way higher than the foot rest which gives you ample space. The leg brake needs some getting used to but it serves to save space near the centre console giving it a more streamlined look.

b) The 2013 model has a different (and slightly more powerful) Nu engine. It also comes with a few minor add-on's e.g rear seatbelt indicator, passenger airbag deactivator, etc. But all at the same price.

c) Touch the dashboard and side door panels and ull notice that its not plastic but a soft felt material. If u wanna know what plastic is, go check out the new Honda City. The leather seats are surely not the BMW grade. Not sure if it will last but what do u expect with a car that only costs RM 143K? When u compare cars, u need to take into account the price difference. If u compare with say a VW Passat and claim this and that is better, i mean wouldnt u expect that since ure paying like 30K more?

d) The K5 is underpowered because of the body weight. Most 2.0 normal petrol engines for a D segment will be underpowered. You cant compare with a Jetta which has a turbo engine. There is a K5 2.0L Turbo which isn't available in Malaysia because of the fuel quality here. But that 2.0L turbo thrashes even the new BMW 3 Series 320i twin power turbo. The K5 2.0T has 274Hp, 365Nm torque compared to only 184Hp, 270Nm torque on the 320i. So compare 2.0NA engines with other 2.0NA engines. Pointless comparing with a turbo.

But the K5 has the most power output (on paper) compared to other 2.0L cars in the market e.g Camry, Accord, etc. But that's where the pedal shifters come in. Once u get the hang of it, u can easily use the gears to give you that additional power. If u look at the K5 torque curve, its main power kicks in mid cycle not during the initial stage. So if ure cruising at say 110kmph and u wanna suddenly accelerate, the K5 will provide that power easily enough. But in town driving, use the Eco mode to keep FC down.

When ure talking about D segment cars, you shouldnt be focused on resale value. The only ppl who talk about resale values are those owning B & C segment cars. D segment owners are a different breed of ppl. D segment cars resale value is no where as good as a B or C segment. Yes cars like Camry and Accord will get better resale values for sure but then again those who buy the K5 dont buy it for the resale value. We buy for the specs, value for money, safety and design.

The K5 is very much value for money. For the specs on offer, design, interior space, safety and the 5 yr unlimited mileage warranty, RM 143K is a very reasonable price to pay. Ive been using my K5 for 10 months so far and except for a few issues with my aircon smell and wipers initially, ive had no other issues so far. Although my car is only 10 months old on paper but ive covered about 34,000km to date. Not a single rattle or creak anywhere in the car. After sales service has also improved alot although Kia is still behind Toyota's standards. But i like Kia's warranty terms. They will easily replace a part for u FOC just to satisfy you unlike Toyota where getting them to admit to a fault would take a miracle.

So overall, im quite satisfied with the K5. I bought the car after about 6 months of detailed research and 9 test drives. I believe ive made a good decision. Since i drive alot, ive had the benefit of seeing the various types of cars on the road. Im seeing more and more K5 since Nov 2012. So i think more and more ppl are beginning to see that the K5 is really value for money compared to that overpriced Camry. Its design also stands out. Till today i still keep getting the looks at traffic light stops, restaurants, etc. Ask any K5 owner and they'll tell u the same.

Go for it. You will not regret. Join the K5 Club Facebook Page as well. Ull get more info there too.

Cheers!

so i have to use manual if go up? haha, i don't how to drive manual man... karat already sad.gif

but anyway i just check with a friend who drove kia forte.. he told me the spare part freaking expensive. Hmm... he does earn a lot and he said that, make me a bit worry for optima as it is even bigger car.
Manual mode in auto cars are totally different from normal manual cars la. U can use the paddle shifters for faster acceleration. If u wanna hold the gears in say gear 3 or 4, u can use the gear's manual mode. Or else just stick to full auto and ull be fine. U cant compare the K5 with your Atos la. Totally different. U cant fly up Genting for sure, but the K5 can take u up easily enough cuz it does have 197Nm torque.

K5 also come with 5 years unlimited mileage warranty, for the period of 5 years. i suppose we don't have to worry on the parts. and also, 5 years down the road, maybe Kia/ korean parts supplier will be stronger here in Malaysia, hence cheaper  spare part?
Warranties cover defects not wear and tear. U still have to pay for normal replacements of parts.

Looks like 2013 model is coming out by next week as I got the call from my SA, told me to collect my 2013 model K5 by next week.
Its not a 2013 model. Its a 2013 manufactured car. The model is the same 2012 model.

if let say, i want to double park my K5 behind somebody car, without pushing the legs brake and also gear at N.. . Can we switch off the engine?
With the gear in N, you can switch off the engine but the warning buzzer will sound indicating ure not in park. Im not sure if you can lock your car doors in this position but engine can be switched off.

CM98, i saw you have the aircond smell issue as i'm having the same issue as well. Any way to solve this problem? Can advice please?
Send an email to cmd@naza.com.my and mention this problem. Say that the problem is a daily problem and its not getting any better. Insist on them providing you with a full chemical cleanout of the aircon system. Thats what the Korean engineers have proposed for my car. Naza Kia will purchase the special chemical and conduct the clean-out sometime next month.

which brand to choose for tint? sunrrof also can tint?
Use the car first and see if u really need the tint first. All K5 come with UV cut glass. I didnt use a tint cuz the heat was bearable. Even if u decide to tint, dont bother bout the sunroof. You wont be opening the sunroof that often anyway.

I think it is safer for the tint, especially for the security tint to ensure the glass don't shattered upon impact
Yes if its for safety reasons then fine. But many ppl who install tint arent doing it for safety. More for comfort.

I have this nagging issue just would like to share out. Eventhough the central locking is controlled by the driver, it seems that the front passenger still able to open the door (the lock automatically releases).....is this only applicable when the car is stationary? Even if the answer is yes, still don't feel safe while stopping at traffic lights and the passenger is a kid.
All passengers can open the door but they need to manually unlock the door themselves. Dont know what you mean by 'automatically release'. Only the driver can just open the door straightaway. Same with Toyota cars.

Yes send an email to them and say this is a long standing problem. Also state that you want a complete chemical anti fungal flush of the entire aircon system.

I think the front passenger can instantly open the door once pull the lever. Maybe I'm wrong in that sense but I did see my mom doing it.
I tested this again yesterday and as i mentioned earlier, only the driver's door can be opened straighaway even though its locked. All other doors cant. So if your passenger door can, then its a fault and u need to get it fixed.
