I too faced the same issue last year, but they change the O2 sensor under warranty, its only $600 plus. Why are yours so exp? I wonder why the current gen Vios have this O2 sensor issue.

Fyi, the same prob (rpm drop) happened again after 2 months replacing the sensor. I couldn't be bothered anymore. Kinda disappointed with Toyota.

Vios has 2 O2 sensors, around RM600 each.

Avoid running your tank dry. You risk damaging your fuel pump.

How can gearbox oil get inside the cabin? The gearbox is mounted next to the engine, and controlled by the gearstick via linkages or electronically. The gearbox is NOT under the gearstick.

That is not gearbox oil.

i have no idea what that is...but its oily and has no smell...

and since i saw that my gear has been acting strange

It's just the gearstick that is stuck when you try to move it right? but when driving in D the gearbox behaves normally (no jerking, no abnormal clunking sounds when shifting)?

If that's the case, I suspect those things on your gearknob cover is grease or lubricant from the linkages underneath the cover that somehow got out. My first guess would be the linkages are damaged or stuck.

Just my 2 cents...

yeah while driving it is fine...no jerking no noise...but when i wanna shift 2 R/P its kinda stuck-ish....

Then IMO there are 2 scenarios a) linkages / springs / bushings under the gear knob are damaged or stuck, like I mentioned above, or b) The parking brake and/or reverse shifting mechanism at the gearbox itself malfunctioned, damaging the linkages / springs / bushings.

Obviously, the b scenario be a bigger problem to fix

Either way, it should be covered under the warranty.

My Vios is giving me problem again, as highlighted a few months back. 9 year old 1st generation Vios, clocked around 200k. Engine warning light comes on, and at times, engine dies of when idling (stand still traffic). So, to prevent this, I've to engage to N during traffic jams and rev the engine when it feels like its going to die off.

UMW quoting me RM4k+ to change the main engine harness. Doubt it that's the problem and not surprised if the problem comes back again. Anybody familiar with this problem or know of any good mechanics that I can go to? I think I need to go to a wiring specialist for this, and not a general mechanic. There could be a possibility the insulation pipes around the wires could have melted off and thus, some wires might have been damaged. This does happen and even if yes, the area of impact is localized. Just have to change that wires in that area and not spend a fortune on the whole engine's cabling... :-/

Check O2 sensors.
