Hey guys. My vios has just went through the 20k service. Told SC bout the squealing noise when I brake, they told me serviced my brakes and when I test drive with a person in the car, everything seems ok.

A week later problem came back... Any idea what it is?

Plus my dashboard noise also comes on and off... Just recorded it on my phone and will show SC when I go back. Right now more concerned about squealing noise from brakes, scared later accident....

Any idea anyone?

I had squealing sound everytime i brake about 2 months ago.
Changed the brake pads for less than 3 months that time.

Checked the manual, and found out that sound is actually by design to alert the driver for brake pad replacement. (Which reminded me that i changed a cheaper brake pads previously)

Went ahead and replaced them by stating i want those Made in Jpn and Asbestos Free...no problems until today. icon_rolleyes.gif

Unless there is something really wrong with the car, i won't go back to SC after the warranty.

They charge at premium as they try to bind consumers with the warranty.

Even though you do not have any warranty now, charges are the same.

Its really up to you.
Pay at premium at SC and peace of mind.
Or learn to know which part of the car needs minor/major maintenance and bring them to your regular mechanic.
(If you do have one)

Do not think that dropping your car to a regular Ah Beng workshop will ensure everything is fine with the car. There is a reason why the service record list every major/minor service itemised.

Mechanics won't be writing a diary for you, haha.

I'm slowly learning how to maintain a car properly and i just don't like paying at premium when i know whats best for my car at regular maintenance.

I own a 2006 vios, and I faced similar problems..

1. Morning-time 'timing belt' cold start noise
- not sure if it's the same or not, but for me, I faced screeching noise when I start the engine.
- of course, vios doesn't have engine timing belt but we use timing chain.
- because the screeching sound is normal for other cars, and it's usually associated with timing belts.
- sent to toyota service centre and they confirmed it's the belting sound, came from my aircond belting.
- re-adjusted aircond belting and fixed the noise for free, since they checked that the condition was still okay.
- after few months, the screeching noise came back again and i changed the aircond belting to a new one.
- no more screeching sound.

there are two belts that needs to be maintained.
One is Alternator belt
One is Air Cond belt

one at the top pulley, one below

have your mechanic check which one is causing the noise, have them changed and it will be quiet like previously.

P.S: Last year my mechanic tighten+replaced the wrong belt for me,
sound keep on annoying me during start up and raining..in the end i check myself and identified its the belt for below pulley doh.gif

Sometimes you gotta learn to understand your own car for what's best blush.gif
