to ducky/backlit kb owners, any of u got pbt keycaps on them? will the keycaps 'glow' if the backlit is on? my understanding is that pbt is thick, and no light can penetrate through it.  hmm.gif
*
I think "hard" is the more suitable word than thick.

BTW, there exist semi-translucent POM keycaps out there.

im kinda interested if it has all white. hmm.gif
*
It should be PBT. The rainbow PBT existed for quite a long time already(infact, kaysa - the poster below this owned them b4).

IIRC, there used to be whole white colored PBT keycaps.

Get a Filco and you can save up the money for any keyboard upgrade in future(or may be nope, LOL. Keyboard poison always exist, and there are something called Topre in a totally different league). laugh.gif

isnt filco almost same price with razer bwu ?
*
But people tend to compare their features, but ignore the quality/built.

BTW, IIRC, Filco cost at least RM400+ while BWU cheapest can go around RM300(yar, BWU, not expert).

I have a question and i know it existed long time ago. Just wanted to clarify things,

1)Keycool and Leopold use the same spacebar?

2)They are different in what way from other keyboards? Longer shorter?
or the '+' position is different.

3)Leopold space bars hard to find?
*
1. Partially yes(FC200R use normal/filco/KBC compatible standard while FC500R using old keycoold 87 standard(heard that keycool BL is using normal standard), still unsure which standard FC700R is using).

2. The + position is different. And also the different kind of stabilizers used(in some way, costar/wire style will compatible with more type of spacebar(such as the one on NeoZelia87) than Cherry(Leopold/Ducky) style.

3. If you refer to the weirder standard on FC500R, then yes. So far, only those spacebar by Keycool and some particular rare case of KBC/other less known brands will fit.

Or do you want me to like measure it for you?
*
it is really hard to judge from picture with only ruler without a side by side comparison with other spacebar.

The Leopold spacebar is quite similar/near to the SS7G one IIRC, the stem position only differ by a little(but of course they are then not interchangeable).

I doesnt test the space bar yet coz scared if I broke the stock ducky sb using the ring keypuller sad.gif
*
To remove spacebar, you cannot use the ring puller. In fact ring puler can only be used on small(1x) sized keys, not even modifiers... sweat.gif

To remove Ducky's spacebar, it should be quite easy as it is using Cherry style stabilizer, you just need to make sure you plug both sides up parallel.

Remove both "Alt"s first, then use your finger/fingernails to pry off the spacebar and you are done.

P/S: For Costar style stabiliser(such as Filco), it require more tricks and care to do, so don't try it if you are not sure bout it.

+2 for this
Started out with red and already loved it.
Read about Kaysa's comments on PBT, decided to try. got poisoned icon_question.gif
Did some light mod like O-rings, loved it.

More to come! Thinking of trying backlit keyboards but fear that it might have more problem like flickering, LED burn, bla bla bla.. what do you guys think?
*
That is also a main reason why FILCO is so famous here and there.

It offer and packed less features with it, thus there is less chance for anything to go wrong, LOL.

BTW, LED burn should be able to claim for warranty. Or if you are more adventurous, you can always do some LED swap/DIY jobs. icon_idea.gif

Vintage Black, black switch which normally found on older boards(older than 1994 IIRC), especially WYSE.

Rumored Said to be much nicer to type on than modern Black switch.

What do you mean for the first 2 sentence? Less feature like backlit so less chance for problem to occur?

I'm adventurous but I don't have the knowledge.  tongue.gif
*
Or may be interpret the other way make better sense.
The more features it packs, it is naturally that the higher chance for "at least one of the feature gone defects".

Actually, swapping LED doesn't need much knowledge, but more on skill instead.

I've done some soldering before, i just need some guide to tell me where to solder/de-solder.

Can a non-backlit keyboard be modded to become backlit?  hmm.gif
*
It is possible, quite a lot Chinese keyboard players(from China forums) did it. In fact one of the member(Bai101 IIRC) here also attemped it b4.

The drilling holes, wiring and insulating is the messy part.

Thus it is better/easier to find some those boards with pre-drilled(or even better with matrix prepared) such as NeoZelia or some other China boards for LED mod.

Only 2 brands of KB used Topre switch.

One is HHKB Pro2 and another is Realforce. However, do note that HHKB Lite(or something like that) is actually a membrane/RD keyboard, so becareful not to get cheated/do mistake. icon_rolleyes.gif

Replacement keys for 84-keys keyboards:

Leaving the Mx-mini out of discussion

Noppoo mini 84 key, with lower POM caps, cherry profile. Stupid spacebar length means you are stuck with it for life.

Keycool 84, can probably fit a Cherry Doubleshot set, needs 1 set from the MY1800, and a moogle kit to complete the transformation. I'm not sure about the spacebar. If it follows the FC200R design, then there's no problem.

Race is a backlit version 84 key, and it has those 1.25x keys. You can probably order 1.25x keys blanks from SP.
*
But getting R5 keys, especially 1.25x key is imposibru. sweat.gif

I have no keycap remover, and I want to remove my Razer BlackWidow Ultimate's key for fun, just to see. I've never seen the inside of the key before so I just want to see how the Cherry MX Blue switches look like and for experience la wink.gif
So how do I remove it? Is it safe to remove the keys with my bare fingers? Or can I make like a homemade keycap remover? Or use something else?
I'm not gonna' remove the large keys with stabilizers. Just the small ones that can be easily removed and put back.
*
I suggest you better leave it till you got suitable tools for it.

BWU's keycaps are quite fragile, especially the coating and the stem. You will easily damaging them if you do it less care.

If you still want to do it, you can try with R4 keys(Esc and numbers rows), they are taller and easier to grip on and then pull it up parallely.

I type with only 7 fingers(all but pinkies and right thumb). And the way I type is really messy(in term of fingers using, some even crossing the jobs of another hand, lol...) That make my WPM sucks and stucks at 50+(at most 60 with full concentration...).

Tried to learn the correct way to type(by learning a new layout - COLEMAK) but in the end giving up after few days of tries... doh.gif I just can't get use to using my pinkies to press any keys. sweat.gif

I once came across someone in GS selling a Raptor K1(it was few years back...).

I tried to offer only those GID keycaps but he refused. sweat.gif

BTW, in case anyone don't know, Raptor K1 is a rebranded Cherry board(which offering NKRO in PS2 connection, sort of rare features back then). In fact the GID keycaps itself are made by Cherry.

the F keys R1 using "glow in dark" paint coating
*
Actually, that isn't painting/coating if I am not wrong. That thing is just like those Grow In Dark decorations(small ornaments, normally having the shapes of stars, moons, planets and other). It is pale green by itself but grow in the dark after absorbing light.

The keycap should be of 2 piece design, one GID plastic on top connected to normal ABS(assume) base.

If you by any chance having lots of extra moneys to waste for a makerbot or other 3D printer, you can possibly make your own GID keycaps.

Okay so I have a problem here with my Razer BWU.
The number 6 key (not numpad) is like weird. Whenever I press it, it doesn't go down smoothly and is abit rough-ish. Idk how to explain.
I don't have any mechanical keyboard keycap remover so idk whether I should remove it with my bare hands and then put it back to see if it fixes it or not. What should I do? :l
*
For "6"(R4 height), it is possible to plug it with your fingers(not fingernails). Just firmly grip onto the key and then plug it off parallely.

BTW, your case sounds like you are probably having a defect(or at least semi-defect, which is normal on BWU) switch. Which the only solution is changing a new switch(better sent it for RMA if you don't want to void warranty).

Probably caused by flaws in design/manufacture.

The best solution is probably changing or daedly fix(by glue?) the whole stabilizer feet and using a better stabilizing steel wire.

Lubing may do help too.
