This is a good thread with many people sharing but I couldn't really read all so I hope you don't mind if my questions asked may have been asked before. I do agree why Astro till today has the monopoly for all the channels (ie: HBO/Star & etc). Hope they will open this control and allow us more choices of Operator and more affordable prices especially since Astro customer service sucks.

I have a Astro Beyond decoder and I have tried to subscribe for HD and upon contacting their customer service, they say it's available in my condo(after confirming with them 2X if HD is available in my condo). So I subcribed for HD channels for RM20. After about 4-8 hours later, I realised my channel has not been turned on and found out from their technical side that my condo is not HD ready yet. This really pisses me as they have started charging me for HD and other pay HD channels. I had to go through hell before they cancel it with the relevant charges.

For this topic, I would like to know if Astro HD is available in many condo's especially in whole of KL? I was told not many places has HD as well. If so, why is Astro not doing anything about it but they are advertising so much about their HD channel.

Is anyone having this problem?

My Astro B.yond PVR is now outputting only Dolby Digital 2.0 for the HD channels instead of the usual 5.1

I have toggled the Digital Audio Settings from Dolby Digital 5.1 to Stereo 2.0 back and forth and rebooted the box several times, but it's still stuck at DD2.0. sad.gif

I tested on some older content I had recorded in the PVR (which I confirm had 5.1 output) and they are not being output as 2.0 only, so it's definitely a problem with the STB rather than the stream itself.

Do you live in a condo? I've been trying to get HD but astro says my condo is not HD ready. Thought Astro would have made the necessary cable installation and so on to offer HD to subscribers since they advertise this heavily.

Oh, Astro IPTV is different. That one is definitely HD. I thought if subscribe to standard Astro, you can also subscribe to HD channels but they cover certain areas only

What's so special about Astro B.yond when they don't offer HD services to most condominiums in KV.

The Assteruk advertisement for HD is somewhat misleading. They don't have HD service in most of the condo's. The reason is to provide HD, they need to pull a 2nd coax cable to the central dish. So how to do and who bears the cost?

I stay in Mont Kiara and asked many times if they offer HD service to my condo and they say "YES". After subscribing, 24 hours later also don't have and finally found out from their Assteruk CS Technical team, they don't support.

To make things worst, they charge me for that short period of "switching on" my HD service though I can't watch HD channels. Had to go through many rounds of arguement and only deducted after 3 months.

IF ANY OF YOU WHO DON'T REALLY BOTHER WATCHING ASSTERUK CHANNELS, TRY OTHER ALTERNATIVES. IF ANYONE OF YOU FROM THE REGULATOR, ASSTERUK OR EVEN POLITICIAN, DO SOMETHING ELSE MALAYSIA WILL GO BACKWARDS COS NO COMPETITION AND WE GET F**KING LOUSY SERVICE.

Hi to all sifus here, just subscribed to astro b.yond recently. I have a HTS with optical digital input and the astro decoder comes with digital coax output, is there a converter to interconnect the digital audio? Currently using analog audio.

Thx.

What I have done is using the optical cable to connect my HTS to TV and from TV to Assteruk decoder. So when I want HTS, I switch on my player and sound comes out from HTS speakers. If I don't, just listen from the TV speaker.

Hi all,

I just switched old decoder to new Astro Byond decoder without subscribing to HD service.

May I know can I use the HDMI port or I have to stick back to AV port?

I see HDMI: Off when I checked on Settings, System Versions.

Thank u.

You can connect the HDMI cables but unless your HD service is on. Please be aware if you are leaving in a Condo, not many places have HD service from Assteruk as what I experience before.

So if no HD service for your condo, then all this HDMI, HD and so on, no use already.

Got new broadcasting now from ABN. Anyone have tried this? I hope this can provide a "wake up" call to Assteruk for their lousy service and monopoly.

Sorry to hear that. This is what unscrupulous technicians do to increase their income. You can try to complain to Astro but their customer service as I experienced is so bad (since they monopolise the market) so they will either don't bother, ask you to contact someone in Astro or they'll say they get back to you but they don't.

That's why it's called ASSTERUK Services and the regulator/government is not doing enough to make such companies understand what is "Customer Service" about.

Hi guys, I got my IPTV installation done today. I feel cheated by the astro installer. Wanted to get your opinion and what you guys think.

1. Installation for multiroom (aka 2nd decoder) is 2nd level in a terrace house

2. Main unit IPTV modem is at the ground floor, Astro people claim that they need to connect a network wire from the modem to upstairs which is about 30-40 meters and they will charge 1meter = RM10. So they suggest me a seemless connection by Azrech homeplug network which cost RM450.

3. Astro people said that in a threaten way that if I don't pay for this, they will take away the decoders and would not continue with the installation

Now the interesting point is that, stupid me for accepting it, I learn that from price list in lowyat.net that the Aztech homeplug model HL115EP actually cost RM105 for single unit & RM199 (twin bundle) reference http://images-cdn.lowyat.net/pricelists/PC...it-hardware.pdf. That is an earning of 120%!!!

what you guys think? can I force them to refund? I know a way to file a complaint to tribunal as last resort but for RM200 it is not really worth the time and effort, do you guys think complaining to astro will help?
