Astro, Maxis to roll out consumer packages by year-end Business News 2012-09-05 14:02 KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd and Maxis Bhd, which entered into a partnership today to provide the best of Astro TV and radio, high-speed broadband and voice to Malaysians, are to roll out their first phase consumer packages by year-end.
Under the tie-up, Maxis, the integrated communications service provider, has entered a 10-year partnership with exclusivity for Astro to be the Internet Protocol television (IPTV) content service provider for three years.
Maxis Chief Executive Officer Sandip Das said both parties are currently in the midst of developing the packages and would co-market the packages.
The packages combine Astro B.yond IPTV and Astro On-The-Go services, together with Maxis fibre Internet, mobile Internet, wireless Internet and Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line services.
"A number of packages are under construction and we expect to see them in the market in another quarter or two, and both parties will jointly market the packages through all the respective distribution channels," he told reporters after the signing ceremony.
"How quickly we move into the market and tailor to consumers' requirements would be the true test," he said, adding that Maxis foresees earnings via the partnership to roll in next year.
As at end of June, Maxis Home had a total of over 57,000 customers, including 9,352 Home Fibre Internet and over 27,000 Home Wireless Internet subscribers.
Its Home Fibre Internet service is currently available across 1.3 million homes while its Wireless Internet service has 82 per cent population coverage.
Astro broadcasts over 156 channels and has a 50 per cent penetration of TV homes in Malaysia or 3.1 million customers.
Astro Chief Executive Officer Datuk Rohana Rozhan said the collaboration with Maxis gives an additional 1.3 million fibre homes passed as immediate addressable market for Astro B.yond IPTV.
"And we are estimating that one million out of the 1.3 million houses are already Astro customers," she said.
She said Astro would continue to grow its relevance for all Malaysians by continuously evolving its products and services to provide better choice, experience and value.
Last June, Maxis signed a partnership with 14 content providers to deliver Video on Demand (VOD), 3D content as well as seven Free-to-Air channels for its Maxis Home Fibre Internet customers.
have to wait.. again for iptv, but it will be worth it cuz solve my rain issues~ Whuh? Isn't their current IPTV service tied with Time? Does this mean this will change for Astro IPTV customers?

QUOTE(krel89 @ Sep 12 2012, 09:40 PM) no la.. i don't think so, astro still tied with TIME.. but for resident area, they tied with maxis.. this should done ages ago... for high rises, then its time... I'm living in a high rise in Segambut, and my Astro IPTV service was installed by TIME contractors. Can't deny Maxis fiber optic plans are more affordable though, just hoping there are no negative side effects of this for me

QUOTE(Superman7 @ Nov 1 2012, 11:14 PM) guys, what are the video output ports for the IPTV decoder? Does it have both HDMI and Composite (yellow, red, white) output? I'm planning to subscribe to the Astro IPTV package which includes Astro as well as broadband. As the package comes with HD, I believe there must be a HDMI port to connect to my TV. Question is does it also have additional composite video out so that I could connect to my wireless transmitter? Astro IPTV uses the standard B.yond PVR, with both HDMI and Component (not Composite) outputs. I have mine hooked up to a Monoprice HDMI splitter, with simultaneous outputs to my amp and to my Asus WiCast transmitter. I confirm this works perfectly, even with Dolby Digital 5.1 digital output on the HD channels.

Is anyone having this problem? My Astro B.yond PVR is now outputting only Dolby Digital 2.0 for the HD channels instead of the usual 5.1 I have toggled the Digital Audio Settings from Dolby Digital 5.1 to Stereo 2.0 back and forth and rebooted the box several times, but it's still stuck at DD2.0. I tested on some older content I had recorded in the PVR (which I confirm had 5.1 output) and they are not being output as 2.0 only, so it's definitely a problem with the STB rather than the stream itself.

QUOTE(sky reno @ Nov 21 2012, 02:18 PM) Do you live in a condo? I've been trying to get HD but astro says my condo is not HD ready. Thought Astro would have made the necessary cable installation and so on to offer HD to subscribers since they advertise this heavily. Yup living in a condo, running Astro IPTV The HD channels were always working fine with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio throughout all this while. Only realized got problem on Sunday

QUOTE(GamersFamilia @ Dec 17 2012, 10:20 AM) im a astro byond user ... ok for HD is it better to set 720P or 1080i ( this LCD tv basically at hall for family ) I tested both settings for around 2 weeks each when I first received it... and to tell the truth I couldn't see the difference since Astro's video quality isn't that great anyways. I've left it at 1080i since.

By default the Byond decoder is configured to stretch the 4:3 standard definition image to fit the HDTV's 16:9 frame. You can disable it, but this will result in black bars on all four corners of the screen.
I don't have much experience with older Astro decoders, so I can't say if there's any improvement in terms of picture quality or not.

QUOTE(maiffa71 @ Feb 1 2013, 07:06 PM) Why on PVR if 2 channel been recorded, cant open any other channel without stopping the recording? Hardware limitation, it is stated in the manual. The PVR will not allow tuning in to a 3rd channel while it is recording 2 other channels. However, you can watch an existing recording whilst it is recording 2 channels simultaneously.

QUOTE(THEALB10N @ Apr 11 2013, 11:59 AM) I got a call from Astro today about them wanting to install some fibre optics thing for my astro to replace the satellite dish. I wasn't really paying attention as I was quite busy at the time but has anyone else heard about this? I would rather not swap to fibre optics as I don't want my computer internet speed to slow down when I'm watching TV and I don't want to have buffering issues with the astro either, aspecially as I have 2 STBs. Also I subscribed to Unifi within the last 2 years so would probably have to pay a fee to disconnect that. Is the astro internet reliable? I think you're referring to Astro IPTV A fiber optic cable has more than enough bandwidth to stream Astro's content and still provide the broadband Internet connection. This is the exact same thing Unifi has with their Hypp.tv box. The stream to your Astro STB is completely separate from your Internet connection, so usage of one does not impact the other. I have been using Astro IPTV since June 2012 and it's been great. The Astro signal is weatherproof since there's no satellite dish used, and the benchmarks I did against my 6Mbps line with Speedtest.net shows significant performance improvement over Unifi's 5Mbps package. I would advise waiting for your Unifi contract to end because TM's disconnection fees aren't worth it (I had to terminate my 1Mbps Streamyx contract prematurely when I moved house from Penang to Selangor two years ago). I hope you find the comments above useful.

QUOTE(THEALB10N @ Apr 12 2013, 02:09 PM) Hmm, if there aren't any extra channels on Astro IPTV then I think I'll just stick to Satellite Astro and fibre optic Unifi internet. Doesn't seem much point in changing (especially as my internet is 10mbps, and the above person said Astro is 6mbps). Thanks for everyone's input. Astro IPTV is exactly the same as the conventional satellite version, there's no extra channels. The only advantage is it is weather proof and you won't get signal degradation during bad weather. They have four different packages - 3mbps, 10mbps, 20mbps, and 30mbps. Because I signed up last June, my package is stuck at 6mbps, which was upgraded to 10mbps in September or October if I remember correctly.

QUOTE(Anonymous34 @ May 9 2013, 10:52 AM) I connected assteruk byond pvr to my samsung smart tv and i connected an optical cable from my tv to my amplifier. When i select DD 5.1, the sound dont come out?Any solution on this? Two possible reasons I can think of. 1. Your TV is unable to output the Dolby Digital 5.1 audio stream to your amp 2. The HDMI input that you connected your Astro Byond PVR does not have ARC support. Do note that most TVs only set 1 HDMI input to have ARC. You will need to refer to your manual to determine exactly which HDMI input you should use if you wish to connect in this manner

QUOTE(Qash-M @ May 19 2013, 08:36 PM) Unfortunately, yes. It's only available via IPTV one. Comedy Central one definitely (over)censored. Only available for Maxis IPTV customers (see http://www.lowyat.net/2013/04/30/7752/astr...ntral-and-more)Older Astro IPTV customers on TimeDotCom (such as myself) not getting these extra channels either. I have been using the TimeDotCom Astro IPTV since June 2012.
Confirm no interference during bad weather since it is not using satellite. There is of course no difference in terms of video and audio quality since Astro is purely digital.
I have never noticed any audio sync issues on my end.
