my hard drive was partitioned to C (windows), D (recovery), F(HP_tools) and H (basically all my files are here). due to certain problem with my windows, i want to reinstall windows in drive C.. i have the HP recovery dvd.. how do i reinstall windows in drive C using the recovery DVD? cause the only option i have with the recovery dvd is to reset the laptop to factory default, which I think will format my drive H

thanks

If i'm not mistaken, Recovery will repartition everything. sad.gif I suggest you install a clean OS with Window 7 SP1 DVD/ISO.

hmm, as expected. thanks for the info. so can i just download Win 7 Home Premium SP1 from any torrent and use my genuine key to install?

i want to format my windows partition © and reinstall windows 7 Home Premium using a windows DVD installer instead of the HP recovery DVD.. I don't foresee using the HP recovery dvd in the future.. so can i format and remove the partition D (recovery) & H (hp_tools) from my laptop?

Yea, you can remove all the partitions if you want, but you wont be able to use recovery or hp diagnostic tool on boot up.

all the options in hp recovery will format your computer to factory default, no?
and what's the use of hp diagnostic tool?

i plan to resurrect my dying dv6-6001tx.. currently the problem with my lappy is it's running very hot and the hard disk is seems to be having problem. so I plan to apply thermal paste and buy a SSD to replace my hard disk. my question is:
1) i plan to use tuniq tx-2 to apply thermal paste. any instruction on how this should be done?
2) i plan to purchase SAMSUNG 840 EVO 250GB SATA.. this SSD is compatible with our laptop right?

thanks!

last week I managed to disassemble my hp dv6 since I need to reapply thermal paste... my God it was a very tiresome job since I literally have to take everything apart just to access the heatsink and cpu. this is my 1st time disassembling this laptop, and it took me a whole day to take it all apart, apply thermal paste and assemble it all again. now my cpu temp hovers around 58C, compared to before that, about 80C sweat.gif ... anyway I think I've done a pretty much a good job, except for the fact that there is still 10 screws left which I have no idea where it belongs.. sweat.gif

anyway compared to my dell inspiron 1420, I can reapply thermal paste in a matter of minutes since dell made it very easy to access the heatsink; just open one maintenance cover and you can take out the heatsink already.

anyway any suggestion for good 250gb ssd for this lappy?

i've been using my dv6-6001tx for more than 4 years now!!!
ok now let me list what have gone wrong with this lappy tongue.gif
1) battery kaput already. changed to another battery late last year, but now have gone kaput too. Probably because of the heat that's always there
2) CPU temperature always hovers around 70-95c. I've put thermal paste more than 3 times but the temperature is still the same.
3) ATI gc doesn't work anymore. Everytime after I installed the gc driver, I cannot load windows LOL
4) Mouse pad keys usually doesn't work haha
5) Fingerprint scanner doesn't work anymore. Probably I forgot to attach one of the cable the last time I open my lappy to put thermal paste
6) Adapter also kaput already. Bought a replacement late last year but also kaput already about 3 months ago. Now use another adapter.
7) Hd changed last year, since original hd has too many bad sectors already.

Other than that (LOL), my lappy is serving me fine. I still use it daily for more than 10 hours for heavy programming work!! i7 and 8gb of ram with 7200rpm hard disk make this laptop still speedy, even after more than 4 years. The only thing that really bothering me now is the low screen resolution.

InsyaAllah I'll continue using this laptop until it's hancur!! thumbup.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
