The bottleneck here is the slow SDIO interface.
The Dopod cant take advantage of high speed cards at all.
I ran some benchmarks and found that the read speed is actually a few times slower than advertised. sweat.gif

betul x ni??

QUOTE
Kudos to the Dopod's TI OMAP processor. Operating at 195MHz, despite clocking in at less than half the speed of the Xda Atom, the 818 Pro actually seems speedier, generally more responsive and with shorter loading times than the O2. With Windows Mobile 5.0, tapping the cross on the top right-hand of the program only closes the window with the program still running in the background. Thus, even though the 818 Pro comes with a generous 128MB of ROM and 64MB of RAM, users can still benefit from freeing up valuable resources allocated to open but seldom used programs by clearing them from memory via the Settings page.
Review from CNET....

But most lowyatian says the dopod is slow... so which is true?

i don't find my dopod slow or lag except when it first start up (after soft -reset), as alkt mentioned - always end program that are not in use and best way to do it is in Settings--> System--> Memory--> Running Programs--> Stop or Stop All

For those of you having problems disconnecting to GPRS, follow above steps to ensure MSN is stopped and also always sign out from MSN Messenger to avoid continuous connection to GPRS.

The only thing i am not happy is that have to soft reset many times and SD card suddenly not detected.

Got to soft reset when

1. charge phone using wall charger.
2. play Astrogames and midway got to do something else so did not stop the program/exit and goto standby, when turn on again phone hangs.

Gen-X ... did u set turn off device on external power (after few mins idle) . if yes .. just unchecked the option .. and i believe you dont have to soft reset after charging the battery.

Those who on Messenger almost 24/7...

how many kb does it use? during standy? during 'normal' chat session?

I have yet to buy Dopod or any pda phone at the moment, and im still using 'pay as u go' gprs...

That is bcoz im not sure to subscribe the data package or stick to 'pay as u go' package....

NT1900 if I remembered correctly. The sandisk is cheaper at NT1400

There's the most annoying thing...searching for a network takes up large resources and my phone once hang upon turning off camera cos media player was enabling the gprs.

On another note....

CHEAP way of improving grip on 818Pro.

How cheap? Only RM1.

Step 1: Figure out the ergonomics...where the phone contacts/grips with the hand. This is how I hold my phone with my left hand.

Step 2: Went out to get one of these stick on grips for ladies high heels and cut them to size. Thought of using those 3M ones but no point wasting money. Plus, they stick well without going out of shape cos they're designed for shoes.
