I got that shit for free with my Intous Draw. Thought I'd start drawing more since I'll be using an actually legit/legal copy....

...But my already poor drawing skills take a deeper dive whenever I try to draw seriously with a tablet. The strokes just won't come out as accurately as I'd like and I'd end up pressing the undo button dozens of times before I can finally get ONE stroke right.

I can't draw at my best unless it's direct-contact, but I'm poor and I refuse to take a loan for Cintiq, so I've been sticking to traditional art for drawing animu and use my tablet for multimedia projects instead.

Yeah, it takes a long time to make the tablets behave like your own fingers.
For me, I can't even replicate 70% of my powers on tablets. laugh.gif

Drawing is not only using finger, its the thought process thingy, what u wanna do to that canvas, its more on ur eyes than ur fingers, thats why there are people that can even draw using their foot.

Of course u cant replicate the feel of pencil and paper into digital drawing, but digital drawing has tonnes of tools to compensate that drawback, making it easier to fix ur drawing than using traditional medium, make use of the tools provided! Im saying u can do 100% of ur power on tablet

I tried water color class once, 2hr doesn't teach much except maybe answer some curious question and show you some basic technique ... 1 week 3 times 1 month few hundred bucks ... tutorial is like color melon, trees and some single object ... didn't even teach much about drawing ... after 3 months give up (well sort of because I moved to other place too far to continue).

Learn online tutorial end up can only draw certain things that is heavily base on remembering the lesson and stroke, if I try to change anything it will look different.

The best method at this point is speed art. Those that doesn't tell you anything, just speeding up on how they draw and you just observe how they start till the end, any part you try to experiment you can pause the video and go back again and again ...... learn how to color skin tone, draw dragon, color scale, etc in about 6hrs time ..... during observation and drawing time I notice that somehow the feeling is different, like you don't remember what steps need to be done, you are just obsess to re-create the result and just able to like draw for that period of time. Like riding a bicycle, you have steps on how to ride a bicycle, but when you ride on top of it you just move, you don't think of the step by step.

Problem is once you try to draw base on own imagination you go back to step 1. Kids drawing .... sad.gif

Btw, is artist in malaysia earning? Or drowning?

if you want advice;

stop symbol drawing
stop trying to make things 'look good'

that's number one mistake for anyone learning to draw

start with 'Keys to Drawing' by Bert Dodson,
early chapters are crucial and is a prerequisite for any artist

you need that flow, the 'feel' when you're drawing, freedom of motion

don't focus on trying to make everything look as good as possible

don't draw from imagination
focus on live drawing, nature, your surroundings

don't rely on your imagination
draw just as you see it
it doesn't need to be accurate

good luck

Not sure, but you can find it online *cough*free*cough*

But yeah, for reference, look at azarimy's doodling over the years here or this guy's doodling.

Apart from the cartoony style doodles, you'd want to easily draw something of that caliber on your own.
You need that freedom, and doodling cartoon or semi-realistic figure is the way to gain it quickly.

You need to develop that carefree strokes.
This trains your visualization skill, constructing a shape in your head and being able to draw it with your hand as accurate and efficient as possible with practice.

Form and flow first, put aside accuracy, style preference or aesthetics much later.

Don't jump straight to learning how to draw pretty stuff.. you'll pick up lots of bad practice and really hard to unlearn it.. sad.gif

Reason to paint ... hobby or cari makan??

If it is hobby , just draw with happiness , slowly you will be better as long as you keep drawing .

Cari makan , then you got to learn much much more , still hard work do pay off

Thanks so much for the advice. I almost gave up here because I was focusing too much on perfection and precision. It's very depressing when reading/admiring the posts on DeviantArt & tumblr blogs, I keep pushing myself to create 'something perfect' like them while knowing I don't have nature talent to draw. sad.gif
