Hi there, I'm trying to learn some simple photo editing so I downloaded GIMPShop to give it a shot ...

I have some questions here regarding the type of files I'm saving (jpeg/png) ...

I used the same method to edit (add in shadows and borders) to the file, however, for the one saved under jpeg, there's this white color thing around the picture whereas the one saved under png has nothing (which is something I wanted) ..

Is it correct to say that the type of extensions saved matters? Such as jpeg and png?

Besides the tutorials on the gimp website, can anyone recommend other tutorials as well on picture editing? (like making wallpapers and etc using GIMPShop) ...

JPG doesn't support transparency.
PNG and GIF does.

Why is it that I saved as PNG but I dont get the transparency? O_o?

Because you have already flatten the image. Try saving it with a transparent background

Finally did it. My first ever self-made avatar.
