Ard mid to end Sept. smile.gif

I wonder SVS will be displayed at HK audio visual show. Will find out tomorrow. Now, hunting for local delicacies.

Added on August 10, 2012, 9:01 amFor those interested to join the camp, here is the thread for the respective sub. Pre order is now on

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1188994

Extremely long queue at HK Hi-End Audio Visual Show. Been 30mins and only less than halfway point.

This quarter ton 18" sub will make the PB13-Ultra looks small.

It can dig to a low 16Hz. It can do 120dB. Stunningly beautiful cabinet. Truly Exquisite Sub.

Looks like PC and PB12-NSD also in good demand smile.gif

Another one buying the 13-Ultra!

It could probably be the last ported sub that you upgrade unless you have a very deep pocket.

Come Nov or Dec, we might have SVS presence in PJ for ease of audition and purchase. Unless, you all still want to drive down to Seremban to see my face. tongue.gif

A 'new' beginning. Now, you understand wink.gif

Only 1 last PB13-U for the pre order. Another one bought the PC12-NSD.

Seems like 3 units of PB13-U will heading to Perak. 3 in Seremban. It is good to see that other states are catching up fast on good HT systems.

if anyone is willing to DIY, you could probably reach similar performance with about RM5k.

the UXL18 are now in stock for USD$615 a piece (shipped). put them in a heavily braced sealed cabinet and you'll get over 120dB for anything over 38Hz. 16hz-100hz performance average at 118db across the range.

ricci did an extensive measurement on the driver at data-bass.com.

Impressive but I believe that the sound quality could be different smile.gif . The million dollar question would be 'By how much' since it costs a whopping EU30k for the Kharma sub rclxub.gif shocking.gif .

Still, I will stick back to my own subs even I have such moolah to splurge on this premium sub sweat.gif

definitely. the perception of sound quality is different from person to person. measurements and numbers could only tell so much. notnyt of avsforum which had 6 (IINM) of the uxl18 in sealed enclosure upgraded tried 12 of elemental design's 13" 13Av.2 driver and say that them 13 inchers goes deeper and felt more solid compared to his previous sextet uxl18.

the 13Av.2 didn't measure as good as the uxl18 in tests.

Hello all. Need help from you guys.

I think a power surge has busted my PC12-plus amp. Anyway to verify for certain that it is the amp that is kaputt?

If it is, can I get a replacement amp from you HTKAKI?

to speed things up once you get them can try this. originally posted in an off-topic thread over at avsforum DIY section.
QUOTE(imagic)
For some time I've used this loop to speed the break-in of my subs. It is two different bass notes overlapping, in the very lowest octaves. The advantage is that it works out your speakers without tiring out your amp the way sine waves do. It's nauseating so I run it when I'm out of the house. It's also a fine way to check for air leaks and rattles and otherwise study the performance of your drivers with an ultra low, complex rumble. Two files, depending on your playback capabilities:
subwoofer break-in loop 24/96: https://soundcloud.com/psychedelicious/sub-break-in/download
subwoofer break-in loop 16/44: https://soundcloud.com/psychedelicious/sub-break-in/download

currently the best way to accelerate breaking-in the drivers that i've came across. start with a low gain and turn the volume up until the ceiling can't take it. laugh.gif
it won't stress the amps as much as sine sweeps do. and much faster result compared to looping bass drums or sine signal. do take a peek at the drivers movement while running them. biggrin.gif

Hahaha. Yeah after we went and auditioned at bro klimal's place for 1 of the pc12 my dad got hooked with the lfe, that on the way back and the next day he is very interested to get 1 for him too smile.gif So the following day we confirmed with bro klimal to get the 2nd unit. My dad was very impressed with the dune he saw at bro klimals place and he got himself a dune max the next day too. Hahaha. The power of poisoning.

The pc12 is great, after setting up at my place the movie experience is so different. The lfe gives the feel that ur in the scene. Really love it

But my set up is just by hearing, so i dont know how many db alk the speaker are set. Reallt need to get a radioshack meter. Another question, how wkuld i know if i need bass trap? My room is 10X12. the floor and all 4 walls are carpeted. except the ceiling has bout 2 ft plaster running the whole room where the middle portion is filled with star light. I realky do not know how much of a bass trap would i need.

Ill try to post some pics later.

Thank you

Is there any acoustic problem with your room such as ringing, boomy bass, slapping echo, etc?

What avr that you have? Normally, those room calibration s/w does not have big variance. Unless, you want it to be perfect at 75dB.

I'm not sure if have any of that. Still new at this. Probably I have a boomy bass. But I have the feeling that the HF such as glass breaking is not there. Is it because it's absorbed by the carpets or just lousy mains?

My setup:
Source: Pana BD45
Projector: Mitsu HC4000
Screen: Unic 92" Grey Screen
AVR: Onkyo 608
Front Mains: Pyramid Gold Series 4 ohms Floorstanding (unheard brand. Very old speaker bout 17 years old)
Center: lotte (same as above very old)
Surround: (same as above unheard n very old)
Sub: SVS PC12-NSD

After running 2eq the Dover set by it is front 40hz center 40hz and surround 60hz. It seems very low.

I would like to know if I would like to set up do we need to set 0db on the avr volume level first then run audessey and set all the speakers to 75db using RadioShack sound level meter using the test tone of the avr itself? Is this test tone the pink noise test tone?

How do you tune how low the sub freq can go? Is it possible with the pc12-NSD?

Really wished some sifu could come over and identify any prob and solution. smile.gif

Thank you

Im located in Shah Alam. Near Proton's Factory.

Yeah, bro klimal's tri sub setup was already very impressive.

I tried increasing the xover for the fronts to 80hz and it seems the mid bass is lacking. once it down to 40hz then it seems better. the pc12 goes very low. Maybe need another sealed sub to get the mid bass punch.

I tried increasing the xover for the fronts to 80hz and it seems the mid bass is lacking. once it down to 40hz then it seems better. the pc12 goes very low. Maybe need another sealed sub to get the mid bass punch.

That's the limitation of single sub. The only thing u can do is find the best position for the sub until u get a second sub wink.gif

Shah Alam is quite nearby a few of us who are staying in PJ and KL. Maybe one day u can invite us for a session to check out your system.

The PC12NSD is great at the lower end of the bass scales but imho lacks the chest thumping mid bass slam.
Getting a similar second sub does not alleviate this problem. It gives a better texture and feel and seems to be coming from everywhere.
It was solved by the addition of a near field sealed sub.
Integrating this with the ported PC12NSD will present a challenge. It has different group delays and phase issues. Level matching is crucial.

more so with a subwoofer to loosen up the moving parts, the suspension especially.
while an electrical/electronic item wouldn't produce any measurable difference before and after running in, speaker drivers (sub drivers especially) produce so much difference that it's suggested to run them for at least 20 hours before taking any measurement.

it's widely documented that the driver's thielle-small parameter change before and after running in. run the bass tones that i've posted before to accelerate the process. do watch out not to bottom the drivers.

Just wondering did u try out tan's friend's dual fv15hp? Does it have any mid bass kick?

Yes your f12 made a world of difference .. I wonder how will the pb13u will further enhance your system. One challenge is trying to make the bass sound less lopsided as the pb13u will be either at the front left or right.

I think Tan has a E15 sealed inaddition to the dual FV15HP now.
I have not had the chance to listen since he turn the position 180 deg around.
I am pretty sure it will be awesome too notworthy.gif

Crossing the mains at 80 Hz minimizes the localization, plus the F12 is now directly behind the LP.
It sure packs a wallop now rclxm9.gif

My shipment did not have SB13-Ultra. It may be in subsequent shipment along with new affordable ported and sealed subs. You are keen? The retail price should be RM7,199.

Its upcoming new Ultra loudspeaker models are tempting. This time, easier on amp and more affordable

If you intend to use it as second sub, PB12-Plus is the viable option. The only drawback is that it lacks a bit of punch and scale not to mention the texture. But, it can be forgiven as the main intention is to get smoother bass response and more headroom.

Just WA if you intend to get PB. I deliver to you since nearby only. Apa macam? smile.gif

Now, I'm running the sub non-stop replay all my old movies. Impressive low end bass which vibrates my sofa. however, I found that there is lack of midbass from PC12, hopefully it becomes better after run in.

If you are looking for mid bass, a sealed sub will give you that or a good bigger floorstanding loudspeakers.

Both sealed and ported sub have different characteristic.

The poison to go dual sub is killing me. Hahhaha. I just loved the book of eli scene that i watched at bro klimals place. The gunshoot really gives a thump to the chest. In my place its very ordinary.

But the low bass on the pc12-nsd always keep me smilling.

Why are you selling it off?

Zrill, it is a combination of ported and sealed subs to get 'best of both worlds'. It is not advisable to go such a route due to many factors but if you get it almost right or integrates it well enough, the end result is very good. Just like what you have experienced.

Many are going such dual subs combination. Theoretically, it is crazy. However, it is too irresistible. laugh.gif Always glad to know that I am not the sole insane fella. laugh.gif

There are quite a number of MBM-12 for sale in Singapore.

It is indeed a beautifully designed driver wub.gif This SVS 13.5” FEA optimised underhung Ultra driver is solidly built. It is no surprise that it weights a staggering 60lbs for its size. That's heavier than a lot of subwoofers in the market.

By far, this is my favorite sub. I am keeping one for my personal HT system at home.

all the technical jargon used to make no sense to me. whatever is underhung motor, copper shorting ring, vented pole, dual spider, cast basket and everything else that svs said are put into making the pb13 and sb13 ultra.

they start to make more sense now. and even the reason why svs never ventured into larger, 15" driver also made sense. at under RM8k a piece, it's a steal. considering that the driver should take at least double the cost to make compared to other, simpler 15".

Eh, did SVS mention this reason before?

At one point they did explore a 16" driver for the planned SB16 - but plan was scrapped when neo magnet prices shot up. To me I think they still could have gone ahead, after all there are other makers like TC Sounds and now Funky Waves that use neo-driven 18" drivers. But perhaps it would have pushed the price beyond the point where marketing dept wanted it.

It's also interesting that the cone material is Rohacell and the cone is also physically stitched to the surround (a bit over kill).

Yes, the neodymium price shot up so high that it is no longer viable to produce and market it at affordable price. That is why the plan was shelved.

I do not think that they will revive this project anytime soon. However, we might be seeing even more affordable range soon.

My current dual subs set up consists of a SVS PB13U running in 16Hz mode with a Rythmik F12, sealed, near field.
The F12 is firing directly at the back of the LP position of the sofa.It is about a foot away from my body, separated only by the back of the sofa.

Did some re tweaking last night and it is rclxm9.gif .
Ran a short clip of the War Horse-No Man's Land and I literally jumped out of my skin during one of the explosions. sweat.gif
Thanks to a fantabulous dealer ( you know who !! ) who helped me with the latest tip notworthy.gif

The 13U is a powerful beast indeed. Was testing a clip from X-Men 1st Class where Magneto is facing Klaus in the reactor chamber.
The part where the helmet falls into Magneto's hands, there is a tremendous blasts of LFE.
I heard a strong metallic sound from the PB13U and , luckily **phew** it was the magnetic grill that was vibrating.
Took it off and retested the scene, and the blast of air is like a mini hurricane.

SVS will unveil it tomorrow.

I am waiting for the information, which should be in anytime soon wink.gif It must be targeting the entry level segment since they have already launched SB13-Ultra recently and showcased Ultra loudspeakers in RMAF and Canada Hi-Fi show.

Best is to do a sub crawl. Room modes react to the furniture and items in the room. At time, owners have limited space to position thier speakers or sub.

The SB1000 is using polypropylene woofer while the NSD is an Aluminum unit. The SB1000 has 100W lesser amp plate at 300W.

Surely, sonically different. However, the SB1000 is very compact at 13" for all sides. I will be getting one for my own use since it can be easily hidden.

If possible, do the frequency response sweep with REW (freeware). IMO, it's the best method.

Hmmm, i find it difficult to do sub crawl, my sofa is huge if i was to put the sub at the position of the sofa i cant move the sofa out of the room unless i dismantle the whole sofa(yes the sofa was assembled in the room). On the other hand i also have limited space to position the sub. Btw normally what tune do you use for sub crawl?

Just for my knowledge purpose can i know where would be the best place to position the sub based on room mode without the consideration of other furniture?

Not that small. Abt 10' x 19'.

Still need to do a bit of acoustic treatment. The usual earthshaking, pant flapping, big in scale and clean bass from PB13-U. The D15SE chips in tightness and adding more punch.

Those with dual yin yang (ported and sealed) subs will know what I am trying to say especially BOTBOTCHAI, jchong, and many more. smile.gif

It can be paired with Active Mini as long as there is audio output to feed signal to the sub.

crasher, my apology as I am not able to attend to you and I did not know that you are in a hurry. Thank you for buying SVS sub smile.gif

Try out the crossover freq level to fine tune it. If you are putting the sub in front, set the phase to 0. As for vol, adjust until you feels it blends well with your main.

Now it feels nice watching movies even with small SVS SB 12 NSD, good enough for small room.

I'm thinking to get a sub, but no moolah yet sad.gif

How is this SB12-NSD compare to SB-1000? Worth the extra 500 bucks?

If you have a mid size to large room, the SB12-NSD will be better. Best is to audition it. Give CN Lim a call for an audition. smile.gif

I will go for PB-1000 if I am in your shoe since you already have the SB12-NSD.

Two thumbs up to HTKAKIwho came to my house to install the replacement amp for my PC-12 Plus. thumbup.gif

The amp blew from power surge last year and I just got the chance to have it replaced. During the troubleshooting process, Max was very helpful and answered my query promptly.

So far he has lived up to SVS stellar reputation and I would not hesitate to recommend his service to anyone else.

Personally, I prefer the "weighted" sound of the PB 1000 (movies)

But is music is you life, SB 1000 would suit you better, because it is more flexible.

Hope this helps

I just bought a 2nd hand PB10-NSD and the sound is @@
Anyway I'm still trying to find a nice position for my SVS in my living room (front, rear, side, etc...). I'm currently using Onkyo TX-SR607 and Jamo floor standers. Any tips to get the phase adjustment right? I find it very hard to optimise my setup sad.gif

The PB10-NSD has been obsolete for more than 6 years ago. The new entry level PB-1000 beats it with ease.

Phase at zero if you put in front. Rear is 180.

Hi Htkaki,

I've a 6-year old SB12+ that is still going strong.
What is the current equivalent model for this sub as living in a condo, I prefer a small sealed box?
The SB12+ will be relegated to my computer audio use.

It would be the SB-2000 which is near identical in performance. The SB-2000 hits lower though.

Skylinestar, if you have ur sub at the back facing the front wall, it should be 180.
