not too sure about this, Lego is made from granulated acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), which is type of thermoplastic
It has high impact strength (can withstand high force) and hv high mechanical strength. it has good rigidity, high resistance to abrasion
but it seems that it have poor ultraviolet (UV) resistance as when it is expose to sunlight, it will gone thro polymer degradation process,
example is when u enter old car, u can see that the plastic parts bcomes flaky, and u can peel the plastic off..

So to be on the save side, better switch off the light, if u want to make ur Lego last longer.
but i also believe Lego must put some layer of protections, secondary process to the ABS material to lessen the polymer degradation.
thats y the Lego from 1980s is in good shape.
