Talking about FC is like a never ending story. Too much variables involve in our everyday driving that affects the FC. For a 13xxkg car with 17" rims, figures around 8-11L/100km is consider ok for me for a mix driving condition. There's no way the FC will be better if we always stuck in the traffic jam or being heavy footed all the way. So everyone's FC will not be the same although we drive on the same route due to many variables (factors) such as traffic conditions, speed, tyre pressure, total car weight, our right foot's mood etc...

Agreed that when you buy Forte or any car for that matter, you should not be too obsessed with FC but look at the overall driving experience. But again FC will always be a concern. And for me, reading other people's experience on FC and how they achieve it will give me an idea what's the best way for me to drive and maximize on FC while not reducing the driving experience that I'm used to.

I welcome and enjoy reading all the suggestion to reduce FC. I may follow some suggestion and I may not follow some. For example, I'm not going to change my rims to 16" to save on FC. I will not change the tyres until it is time to change. I may asked my right foot to be less aggresive and enjoy the drive more.

How to enjoy the drive more if the right foot is less aggresive tongue.gif

What is the problem if we keep discuss FC here? This car is very worth to buy except the FC is a bit high compare to other car such as Vios, City and Elantra. I know it is heavy car but if you can make the FC on par with other cars, I can tell you this car will champion. I have no complain at all just I would like to learn about FC since I am new. Please dont stop anyone to discuss about FC.

Most of the Forte owner not reach, that's why they choose forte. If they are rich, they already go for Altis or Civic ...

We learn about how people keep their FC low and indirectly we promote sales of this car.

Once we have many people buy it, it will become famous and all the resale value will raise including spare part become cheaper.
*
Frankly speaking, if we put the same weight & the same 17" Forte rims on the Vi0s or Citi, the FC will surely not as good as we all thinking of, i believe.

& i can afford a Civic or Altis..but why would i go for it if i can get a much better specced car with much less in cost? I'm not a brand conscious guy..so i will go for the best value for my money..T & H badges will have no effect on my buying decision unless they can outperform Forte in term of specs, price & looks.

1) no one can stop your from comparing FC, but to compare it you need to take into consideration of car weight/segment, passengers inside, rim size, tyre, petrol, road and traffic condition.
forte SX comes with 17 inch rim, EX with 16, under same condition, i believe EX FC are on par and not losing to its peer.

2) first, it is rich, not reach. i not rich, but i can easily afford civic or altis, even camry, accord or optima. with your mindset i believe you would not have chosen forte if you could afford others make. it could be root cause of your dissatisfaction toward your car if any.

3) other than FC low, there are too much of reasons and features to promote a car.

4) it is already famous, original parts price are similar, unless you want third party parts.
*
Well said..my point is, if we wanna do FC comparison..compare it apple with apple as what u have said. But it is almost impossible to have a fair FC comparison among cars since that so many factors need to be considered. I believe, even if we compare FC between 2 cars of the same brand & model, the FC will vary

Ah_Bear,
Thanks for your detail sharing. I am not thinking bad about FC. Same as others, I did a lot of research before decided to take up this car. I totally understand this car is heavier compare to others same range of car. I know will have to pay more for FC already. Just want to learn more from fortezens here.  nod.gif

Someone asking not to talk about FC and I think this is against purpose of forum post.

Thanks again.. Very good sharing.

Hi,

Just wondering whether anyone know why the distance to empty only blinks and doesn't show any figure. Just before that happens, the DTE was showing 60KM. Then after driving another 5 - 10KM, it just start to blink and dont show any figure. My distance travelled that time was about 400KM.

2nd fuel up - Caltex RON 95 / RM 85 / 44.735L / 407KM. FC now drops from 11.x to 10.97. The Forte calculation is 10.7L/100KM.
*
It's completely normal. By blinking & showing no figure, the driver will refuel as soon as possible afraid that the fuel will finish in no time. It's a good practise since that the figure is just an estimation only. So that we will not end up with pushing the car at the roadside instead tongue.gif

Go repair your car first (u have to pay first) & give payment receipt to your neighbour to claim back the total repairing cost. This is what i did last time when my neighbour hit my Wira. But both parties have to agree first for this kind of settlement

For my K5 during highway driving its quite economical. I get instant FC readings of 9.1L/100km at 110kmph and 10.20L/100km at 160kmph. City driving not so economical for sure since the K5 is quite heavy and the torque not sufficient.

Whats your instant FC readings during highway cruising?
*
I believe K5 2.4L will give better FC due to better power to weight ratio right? Unfortunately, no 2.4L K5 introduced in Malaysia at this point to prove it.

Your K5 is still new..i believe the FC figure will be better (lower figure) for K5 after it clocked say over 10k km in mileage..8.xL/100km perhaps. By the way, my Forte 2.0SX get instant FC average reading of 6.3L/100km at 110km/h by autocruising on the level road.

Actually im mistaken with the figures. This time i tested using the autocruise on level road and i got readings of around 5.5L/100km for 110kmph. My K5 is 3 months old.
*
Very2 good FC for the D-segment car..5.5L/100km. Mine usually will play around 5.8L/100km to 6.5L/100km (@110km/h) depending the road stretch at time the measurement is being done. I guess the DVVT engine in the K5 really make a different.

p/s : Welcome to the Kia club bro..hehe. When i noticed that u already bought K5 several month ago in this forum, i'm quite surprise actually that u will finally bought Kia car (especially with our lengthy history bashing each other last time)..lol

what joke? then what's the point of immobilizer if they stil can drive without key present? so the whole point of the key is for keyless entry?
*
I believe it's purposely design like that. Consider this scenario, let say u driving the car now & out of the sudden the smartkey battery kong & the car immediately cant detect the smartkey & immediately shut down the engine in the middle of the road. Very2 dangerous situation especially on high speed & this is no joke i have to say.

The whole point of the smartkey is for keyless entry & keyless engine start. We can enter & start the car without grabbing the smartkey out of our pocket/handbag or whatsoever. Anyway, without the correct smartkey (with matched immobilizer code), the car wont unlock & also wont start. Otherwise, we can simply use our smartkey to unlock/start all the Forte in this world..lol tongue.gif

That should be normal especially when the radiator fan is operating..for sure it will suck in air & rain water during driving..i will clean my engine bay once in every 3-4 months of driving.

Any tips how to clean it? I use water with fibre cloth to clean it but the dirty mark still there after dry. After that I mix with some car shampoo but the result no much different.
*
Here at Alor Setar, i send my car for steam wash (no chemical or car shampoo are used) to clean the engine bay. It produce fairly good result in cleaning all the dirt. But the price is fairly high also tongue.gif Since that i just clean (steam wash) the engine bay once in 3-4 month & the end result is good, for me it's worth the price of RM20 for steam washing the engine bay only. Steam wash the engine is safer for the engine coz it does not use the water jet, it use steam jet/spray instead which is better..the fine & hot steam jet will easily loosen the sticky dirt from the engine bay.

Previously, i did clean it by myself using the same method as u, but the result is as what u said tongue.gif

Yupp..for 10k km service, change oil only + engine oil filter + oil plug which is around RM22x for fully syn engine oil

Brake disc corroded is normal..same as other cars

Hi,

Could anyone advise me on the fuel consumption for the Kia Forte?

Cause as I heard from my mechanic, it is a petrol eater car compare to other brand like Toyota Vois, Honda City and even Proton.
Could anyone pls advise me on that Or let me know what is your current fuel consumption?

Thanks
*
People keep comparing Forte with Vios & City which is unfair comparison in the first place. Forte is C-segment car which is bigger & heavier than the B-segment Vios or City. Like i said so many times before, if let say Vios & City is having the same weight & size with Forte & wearing the heavier 17" rims, i strongly believe that Vios & City FC will not be as good as we think of...

It is called water vapour. Since the exhaust system is metal, it will be cold at night and water condensation will happen inside the exhaust. Upon starting up, the exhaust will get hotter and the water becomes steam.
*
Possible..but the complete engine combustion also produce the water vapour by itself. That's the main reason i believe...

Can install paddle shifter on the 4-speed Forte & functional..but i did not install it personally. Last time (some time last year) several Fortezens did a group purchase from ManCanDo (Singapore) & get it installed at one shop at Kajang. If my memory still serves me well, the cost is about RM7xx. U can click on the link above to go directly to Mancando website but beware of so many poisonous items there tongue.gif

*
It is almost impossible to prevent dust inside a car. However, we might reduce the dust inside our car by using the leather seat & plastic/rubber mat. Also try not to open the car's windows while driving/parking to minimise the dust from entering the cabin. Luckily our Forte got cabin air filter, otherwise, more airborne particles will exist.

If your car still new & the hairline crack exist by its own, u might send to SC & try claim for windshied replacement.

Normal comprehensive insurance does not cover windshield replacement, unless u add-on the insurance policy with windshield protection with additional premium paid
