In term of stability, I expect the car to be "predictable" and comfortable at high speed. I can only compare with the cars that I am familiar with, for example, Vios is not stable, it feels floaty and the car will veer to left or right with every bump, wind and even when overtaking a bus. Engine noise and wind noise is acceptable but still considered loud.

Swift is for me very stable even when then the suspension is bottoming up quite often at high speed. Engine noise is loud and wind noise is just acceptable.

Prius C has quite a stable ride but steering is slightly unpredictable, meaning the car will veer to left or right a bit. Engine noise is acceptable but wind noise above 140kmh is really annoying with a loud hissing sound.

My previous Camry is also floaty but steering is quite ok. Engine and wind is as expected for a D segment car. However I prefer Swift over Camry for high speed.

So to sum it up, I can accept if the car is not floaty while the wind noise and engine noise do not require any passenger shouting at high speed.

IMHO, this has got to do with the current tech of EPS (Electric Powered Steering) and the weight balance of the vehicle (front:rear ratio).
That said, some manufacturers do manage to program the EPS to feel weighted at certain speeds smile.gif

My guess is you're looking for an everyday car with all-round capable character. Yes I used to own Vios TRD Sportivo before this. Vios shouldn't be in this comparison except for its well-known low fuel consumption. To me engine noise in a Vios sucks to the max even at 120kmph with unpleasant sore throat sound at any revolutions. On the other hand, Forte's engine is totally silent if not very very minor humming sound when you turn off the A/C and radio at 120kmph.

Steering feel wise, to be frank, Forte's steering feels abit vague on the straightline as you need to constantly adjust the steering abit in order to drive it really straight on highway (even when I've done the wheels alignment done correctly). Stability is still spot on with no body roll and wallowing about, nearly no vibrations and roughness booming around the cabin at 160kmph.

While Forte on high revs acceleration(4,500rpm onwards till redline), it will sound kinda screamy and trashy which could kill any conversations happening inside the cabin.. the car feels fairly quiet like Camry (pardon for my exaggerated comparison) when driven smoothly..
*
Thanks for the explaination. For me it is not a big problem if the engine is quite rough at high rev as long as the low end torque is adequate since I'm light footed. I prefer light acceleration with additional power available only when needed.

Yes I'm looking for a car for everyday use with enough power when required and sensible fuel consumption when driven moderately. I hate Vios so much because it is so floaty, even when accelerating and braking, the car would rock back and forth. No to mention the shouty engine that doesn't translate to forward motion at all

Not sure bro.. I've asked them they said will be closed for 1 week.. u can try to call Setapak no. on wednesday though.. see whether got human pick up the call onot  nod.gif

I'm started to feel abit regretted of using Michelin PS3 tires for nearly 1 month.. road noise is excessive and ride comfort level is not reaching my expectation. Dowan to spend more money just to change tire again.. grumble.gif
PS3 is meant for sporty drivers.. which I am not..  cry.gif

Aiyuh! that's quite pitiful sad.gif  I was thinking of changing tyres too to reduce road noise. So now, Michelin is out for me. Anyone knows what type to go for? Reasonable prices. I'm driving 2.0 sx.

Added on August 19, 2012, 1:43 amI also need to pull up boot release trunk lever higher and harder when the car is new. Same goes to fuel cap release lever.
After pulling these 2 levers alot of times it will loose abit and does not require much force to pull lever already to open.
*

Don't get me wrong bro.. the one I'm using is Michelin Pilot Sport 3, higher strength on grip and handling thus drawbacks are comfort and silence..

I was in dilemma in between Primacy LC and Pilot Sport 3.. I was using Primacy LC on my previous Vios for 3 years and it was super quiet even at 185kmph speed and it feels like 60kmph only.. I 'm getting some harsh ride and too much of road feedback on my butt and Primacy LC super smooth solid, real quiet with a touch of cushiony ride..

So far I have no complaints on my Forte 2.0.. power delivery and torque is very linear and peppy..
it seems like one driving a Forte 2.0 should be a steady person coz its performance when overtaking/passing a car doesn't give immediate G-Force kick-in power as soon as you stomp on the accelerator.. the power comes in smooth and gradual character..sorry I'm not good at explaining it.. i think its normal for 2.0 N/A engine.. however town driving is more than adequate.. on the other hand, turbocharged engine should give plenty of power on demand when needed.. perhaps, you should go and test drive it yourself.

Btw, I suggest you to have a look on Optima K5.. since you're owning a Camry..
moving on with a Forte from a Camry doesn't give you the same comfort feeling..

We have already traded in the Camry with a Prius C. Not looking for a big car anymore since the size is only used occasionally. For my daily driving to work, a big car is not practical at all. Hard to park, difficult to drive in traffic and heavy consumption. Afterall, our family already have an E60 for long distance travel with all the family mambers.

I'm just looking for a car for my daily usage as well as weekend trips and shopping with a baby onboard. Afterall the Swift and Prius C are quite small with the stroller and baby car seat. The Swift is used by the missus to go to work, Prius C is used by my parent as their daily round about car and I currently ride a bike (250cc) to work. Sometimes if it is raining, I need to drive the bimmer.

Anyone has this Radio Issue ?
Forte 1.6 SX 2012 - Car radio turned on, tuned to local station
Turn on GPS Navigator. Each time the GPS recalculate the location / process the current location, the radio will "stop / suspend" - no sound and after the GPS is idle, the radio resumes playing.
This problem does not appear when the GPS unit is turned off

Yes..will like this..normal..but if u on mp3 with gps then no problem..when gps navigate sound the mp3 won't disturb

Forte 2.0 and new Elantra 1.8 makes a good choice for you. Of course if u ask anyone here, we will still say Forte is also a competent everyday car.

Otherwise, you should wait for the new Ford Focus which is coming soon end of this year at rm128k with 160+hp, legendary ride and handling (nvh not sure), auto parking, etc and main selling point is driving enjoyment.. downside is service cost and spare parts quite expensive for a Ford brand..

I went to the preview event for Ford Focus, I like the car but somehow the indicative price for the full spec is RM135k. For me it is still quite expensive. I might get it if it comes with the 1.6L ecoboost engine but for a 2.0L GDI, price should be less than 130k, closer to 125k is better.

The interior is nice and it drives briliantly, engine power is good but the lower spec has two less airbags and do not have the brake assist, park assist and blind spot warning. I don't care much about the park assist and blind spot warning but I would like to have the braking assist and the two extra airbags. Not to mention the front parking sensors.

I am considering between Inspira and Forte since both cars are offering quite a good value for money. I can get about 10% discount on the Inspira but I don't quite like the interior. I can keep the additional RM 30k-40k for something else. Afterall, the Focus is almost 40% more expensive, and depreciation is worst for a more expensive car. Another car that I'm considering is the current Focus TDCI, can get it at RM116k right now with discounts.

With regards to Ah Bears comments, to add on the 2.0 overtaking 'power' if you own a continental, it behaves in some sort a similar way instead of the urgency you would expect from japanese engines, namely the altis/vios/camry...

its strength lies more on the mid range to the higher range and not so much of its low end torque. I would say its just sufficient for a 2.0 as the other 2.0's I have handled would be the inline 4 perdana and the pickup is wayyyy faster than the Forte's combo.. this is me speaking from the 4 speed box experience

Unless the new Forte comes with a better engine, you won't go wrong with the current one with all the features thrown in right now. I'm also interested with the new look but I'm afraid that the price will move upwards just like the Elantra. Elantra is a good car but the price is already quite high considering some features are missing compared to the Forte.

2nd question, when I open the door, will the door light on? I found the red light cover at the bottom of the door but it didnt light up. Can anyone confirm? Mine is 1.6SX

any car if u leave idle also will consume petrol...first time leaving engine idle? tongue.gif

the door light won't turn on, that's just a reflector...what should light on is the map lights if u leave it at the "on" / "door" position and also your car room lamp.
