QUOTE(alcatrez @ Sep 24 2012, 11:46 AM)
i think it is utterly rubbish to have the speed camera there.

The highway is safe to go 90km/h (my GPS says 90km/h also. same as driver).

Why 80 km/h?

i simply don't understand.

Statistics show that bike accidents are more than cars and buses. So why not focus more on cars and buses?

Or why not spend the money on public transportation? If there is a convenient bus from Shah Alam to Bangi, i would  not require to drive my car.

regards,
*
because even if speed limit is 90 nobody does 90, everyone does 100-110, if the limit 110 everyone does 120-130.

so how to not have a camera to force people to slow down?

and these are supposedly accident prone areas, so only way to slow them down it to put the camera there

Like i said, investment in public transport is much more effective.
*
Thats a lie also, i gurantee with world class public transport we will still buy cars like no tomorrow, because it's asian culture that a car represents a status symbol and asians are all about face so cars will still be bought.

Personally i think it's nice the government is spending on mrt, but i think it will have low usage by malaysians mostly foreigners only

I wonder what happen if there are 3 cars on each lane, 2 of them speeding below speed limit then suddenly a car speeding over the limit reaches the camera area lining up with the other 2 cars. how the camera decides which 1 is over the speed limit then?
*
The cameras don't take one measurement, they take two and calculate the time between both and then can find out the speed of the car because the speed of the measuring pulse is constant.

Each measurement i guess take miliseconds, so even before you spot the camera it has already done measurements on all 3 cars more then once

PETALING JAYA: When the light turns amber, you have just two seconds before it turns red and the cameras catch you committing a traffic offence under the Automated Enforcement System.

This allowance is given in consideration of the “human element” in the event that you are not able to stop immediately when the light turns amber.

Under the AES, you are also given a leeway of 10kph beyond the speed limit, according to Road Transport Department director-general Datuk Solah Mat Hassan.

For example, if the speed limit is 110kph, you will only be “captured” on AES camera if you exceed 120kph, he told a media briefing here yesterday.

As such, he said, signages were put up to give ample warning on the presence of cameras.

Finally!

Some first world implementation

saw on youtube, passing yellow line also kena flash ar!@@ wtf

and i kena flash for stop lebih sikit white line, actually the white line is unseen able
can i bite?

That's why now they say on yellow stop, you can't jump a yellow now.

This is swiss standard, they have the same rule and with the saman they show you the time after the red has come on.

ermm....gud point..anybody can clarify this? but if AES can snap the police officer pic then we shud b ok. but if it don't?
*
Red light cameras arent installed in every junction possible, normally those that people frequently jump or had a serious accident already.

Normally these are small junctions with one or two lanes, downhill or less populated area since it's more likely you will be cruising until the lights.

Big junctions where all the jams occur, more often then not are too slow moving to make people want to jump the lights, but also a lot of the jams are caused by traffic light jumping blocking the other lanes from moving, so it can help with traffic flow

shit man!...i was at pearl point traffic light just now after office hours, you know la old klang road..jammed

so when i passed, it was still green. but i was still in the middle of the yellow box when it turns amber. i was only able to leave the box completely after its red. i saw that gila flash on my rearview.

damn worry wei..im screwed am i?
*
yes, you kena already.

that's the idea of traffic cams too, if the road is jammed ahead you're supposed to wait until space opens up. If you look closely you will notice that out of no where there is a yellow box drawn. According to myth you are not supposed to wait in there but there never has been any confirmed sightings of that happening

well, i rang up the AES operation base this morning. that guy told me i should not be summoned.
it will only caught those who crossed the traffic light white line when its RED.
but anyway you were correct, he says next time its better to wait for open space first.
i guess the flashes ytd was for the van behind me. hmm, god bless me!
cant afford to pay 300 compound in this kinda bad time.. cry.gif

bear in mind that eventhough you did not jump a red light, waiting in the mythical box is an offence, so there is a chance a saman still can be issued

actually.. other country use IR flash. so its not distracting. imagine kena flash then you lose your vision for a second, then crash?
*
some use red flash light because red light has the property of not causing the pupils to shrink, thats why military lights are also red, it's not a video game coolness effect.

something to learn everyday
