I do not agree fully... In general Laws are made by people and society, the law may not be correct. Just an accepted norm.
Some law say person should be stoned to death, burned to death or crushed to death.... Is it accepted now in today world the law say this is wrong.
So what is the law. It just something someone propose and the group accept.
Personally, I think in the middle of the night, with no cars for miles around with you the only person, why wait for the lights. That's stupidity to me.
I think beating a red light no matter what, is wrong. I did a legal u-turn (lights were green and with a u-turn signage) in the middle of the night at Kota damansara, 1am+, and a smart aleck ran the red light and smashed into the side of my car that day. I never regained any memory of that incident and my car lost its value. Some law say person should be stoned to death, burned to death or crushed to death.... So your argument is wrong. Lights are there for a reason. Speed limits also there for a reason. Only thing is they should review the limits and possibly make them higher as driving 80 on a straight highway is just too darn slow and could promote fatigue and reduction in alertness.
Instead of hiding in bushes to catch speeding drivers, or have random blocks to catch things like tint and causing a massive jam, I think this country's law enforcement people really need to sit down and think with some common sense what is really important to enforce... Maybe defensive driving during driving lessons? And make sure passing a driving test is not dependent on a bribe. Start from the root...
