uh guys/girls .... just a public awareness. if you plan on rooting your phone and installing apps, please be sure to use this program...

Anti Spy Mobile

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...tispycell&hl=en

There is a free and a paid version. What this program does it 2 things.

1. check for spyware
2. check the permission rights for all apps on your android for anything that looks suspicious

1 is obvious, but 2 is stuff like record audio for voice calls..... using your phone camera to take pictures of you .... tracking your location ..... knowing your android device id..... So whenever you install apps left and right without reading what permissions your giving these apps ... this program helps you track what apps have too much power, and you can then investigate whether that app legitimately needs it, or whether it is spyware doh.gif it's your call.

With this app i am not left to wonder whether i got something lurky running on my android.

For anti virus i am using kaspersky mobile security
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...e=search_result

Another good app is connection tracker. It investigates where your android traffic is going to, so you can find out if it's suspicious activity and whether your mobile phone may have compromised
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...ackerfree&hl=en

Also .....Android malware's dirty secret: Repackaging of legit apps with some nasty stuff

QUOTE
After analyzing more than 1,200 Android malware families, the reserachers -- Yajin Zhou and Xuxian Jiang -- found that  86.0% repackaged legitimate apps to include malicious payloads and argued that the theats can be effectively mitigated by policing existing Android Markets for repackaging detection.

kaspersky got more darkgreen boxes compared to avast so... cough flex.gif

yet despite that avast is free, despite being insanely good drool.gif

*update

okay so kaspersky has a very minor advantage in detection, but avast is free and has a firewall which kaspersky lacks.

But what really convinced me the most was
QUOTE
Kaspersky has No Root Support - This app, like many, lacks root presence, meaning it will be done for if a thief wipes your device before you can find another cellular from which to lock the device remotely.

On the otherhand avast has root support ..... so it protects your device from being wiped. the thief just stole a brick because wiping won't give him a usable phone, and the avast protection will still be functioning.

So Avast wins big time cool.gif

i'm using avast now nod.gif

a mobile anti virus that isn't rooted is unacceptable rolleyes.gif

i heard LBE guard is good for firewall, app rights management, and anti malware. So i'm looking at that currently

so u mean if i have rooted my phone NOT all anti virus is usable? so avast can be used even my phone is not rooted and have rooted?
*
i'm new to to avast but this is what i saw during the installation setup.

there is an option to install avast onto the root. but your phone needs to be rooted, otherwise when you install it won't use that must needed feature.

so when avast is installed in root, it then tells you to use a ubiqoutous name for the folder app for it. This way the thief doesn't manually delete this folder from the root, because he may accidentally delete a core file and brick the phone.

normally if you install a av like kaspersky which doesn't install to root; despite all the security settings, they can just delete everything and factory reset, then the av can't do anything.

but if the av is rooted like avast is, they can delete, but because the av is in root, the protection will still be active.

detection and removal of virus/spyware, kaspersky is ahead of avast by a bit, but avast wins because you can install it into the root, it's free, and has more features.

if your still curious to know about the effectiveness of detect/removal of virus/malware for those competing products, i recommend you use google like i did. but from my quick search based on 2012 results, the best mobile security app was either avast or kaspersky.

so is it really fingerprint resistant? do u like it? it comes with 2 SPs right? price?
hehe thanks in advance

i dont think they are open on Sundays
*
scratch proof yes (although i wouldn't delibrately scratch it on purpose with force). Fingerprint proof i don't think so.

It's not too bad, but i do see tiny bit of finger print mark barely noticeable. I do micro cloth wipes from time to time sweat.gif

One thing i noticed is the screen does not like direct sunlight. It's hard to view it under that condition.

Also i recommend getting an anti glare/matte finish screen protector.

Notice in the video that the light is not as reflective ? For anyone who has used an S3, they will understand, when you look at the screen you can see yourself like in a mirror. Sure after some use, you get practised at seeing the image on screen rather than your reflection, however i still prefer having a matte/anti glare screen cover.

QUOTE
While many users have agreed that the S3’s screen is a natural evolution from the S2’s panel, there have been more than a fistful of critics disagreeing with that opinion(Pentile vs RGB), which has led to Samsung officials issuing statements defending the new display.

Naturally, that hasn’t completely calmed the criticism “storm”, but maybe DisplayMate’s most recent in-depth analysis will manage to do just that. According to what looks like a very objective report and comparison based simply on raw numbers, as well as extensive lab tests and measurements, the S3’s display is indeed an evolution from the S2’s panel, which itself is much better than the original Galaxy S screen in most areas.

QUOTE
OLED, PenTile AMOLED, Super AMOLED, Super AMOLED Plus, and HD Super AMOLED
The marketing terminology and puffery for displays varies among manufacturers and is confusing… The Google Nexus One was listed as having an “AMOLED” display.

The AM stands for Active Matrix, but that prefix is unnecessary because all current LCD and OLED Smartphones, Tablets, Laptops, and HDTVs use an Active Matrix. All subsequent generations of Samsung OLEDs are called “Super AMOLED” in the same way that you’ll often see “Super LCD” advertised as well. Not all manufacturers use the “Super” terminology so it’s best just to ignore it as advertising puffery.

“HD AMOLED” means that the pixel resolution of the display is High Definition 1280 x 720 pixels or higher. But here is where it gets complicated and confusing – if you see “Plus” that means that the display has the traditional 3 Red, Green and Blue sub-pixel arrangement that is found in almost all display technologies.

If you don’t see “Plus” on Samsung devices that means that the display has only 2 sub-pixels per pixel (a Minus) – half of the pixels have Green and Red sub-pixels and the other half have Green and Blue sub-pixels, so Red and Blue are always shared by two adjacent pixels.

This technology is called “PenTile.” PenTile screens have only half the total number of Red and Blue sub-pixels as the traditional 3 sub-pixel displays, so they aren’t as sharp as traditional displays with the same pixel resolution and their highly advertised screen PPIs are not comparable. This is especially noticeable with colored text and graphics.

PenTile uses Sub-pixel Rendering and Anti-Aliasing that partially compensates for this shortfall. PenTile displays have some advantages: they are easier to manufacture and therefore cost less, and for OLEDs the Red, Green and Blue sub-pixels are sized differently and that improves Blue aging somewhat (see below).

For now, OLED displays over 250 PPI use PenTile technology. It’s expected that the next generation of OLEDs will be called “HD Super AMOLED Plus” and they will have the standard 3 sub-pixels per pixel.

Source:
http://www.displaymate.com/OLED_Galaxy_S123_ShootOut_1.htm

so if it is a case of S2 display vs S3, the S3 wins flat out based on the numbers.

But as for could the S3 display had been better had they used RGB ? Definitely, but the question is how much an impact would that be on the battery life and longevity of the screen.

Some fans say the sacrifice is well worth the benefit, whereas those against say otherwise. So until somebody does a review comparing the 2 on that point, we won't know for sure sweat.gif

Best app to read manga is manga watcher.

For RSS feeds i use gReader Pro to keep up to date with my favourite websites.

And lastly to simply browse the web you can use chrome browser nod.gif

this had been discussed for tons of times since v1 when the phone is announced

with such a high ppi count in s3 screen the pentile matrix is negligible
anyway HD Super AMOLED Plus is already available, when will it be released to consumer no1 knows yet

2 things i can think of the S4 will get.

1. the HD Super AMOLED Plus you mentioned
2. Cortex A15

In the siyah stweak app, when you click on update it says "coming soon".

So siyah in the future will also have a convenient updater like franko's.

anyway i don't like lecturing others, but personally i do think he could have saved himself time solving his issue had he used the convenient link i provided than waiting for someone else hours later to spoon feed him the same info wink.gif

so whether he want to do the smart thing or not, is totally up to him nod.gif thats all i'll say on the matter.

How to change your general phone call ringtone to a custom own of your own choosing

QUOTE
Step1: Use the correct audio format support by your phone.

CODE
Audio MP3, AMR-NB/WB, AAC/AAC+/eAAC+, WMA, OGG Vorbis, FLAC, AC-3, apt-X

If your source is a different format, i recommend using Foobar music player on your pc, and convert to the supporting format. In my case i converted a muse format into AAC using the Nero AAC encoder from here
http://www.digital-digest.com/software/ner...ital_audio.html

As nice as FLAC is, the file size is too huge to be practical on the S3. Instead i recommend using AAC that was encoded from a FLAC source instead. Sounds just as nice and you would be hard pressed to tell the difference, and you will have a more practical file size  nod.gif

Step2: you need to move your music file from your pc to your phone. The way i did it was using Dropbox from desktop, and the dropbox on my S3
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...x.android&hl=en

Then export the music file to your music folder located on your internal SD card.

Step3: Startup your music player and browse to where the music is and press + hold until it prompts out a list of selection. Select set as ringtone.

Done :}

For the second half of the guide, is how to set a custom notification sound. Refer to this youtube guide that explains better than me doh.gif

Wish there was an app that made doing this easier X_X:

Anyway this is what i'm using

Phone ringtone: J-E-N-O-V-A, FF7

Notification: Fanfare, FF7

stock is not necessarily good... my advise use wanamlite or other rom that use as close to stock, but without the bad bits nod.gif (wanamlite added back the local search feature missing from the official)
