Guys, when I wanna transfer file using NFC, i need to activate all four of NFC, Android Beam, S-Beam and Wifi-Direct?

I know NFC is for setting up and Wifi Direct is for transferring. But why dont they include the option of activating all at once instead of one-by-one

Just got my S3. I'm very new to android after migrating from iOS. Any essential apps that I should download? How can I customize and organize my apps into folders?

Thank you.

Guys, I just got my S3. There are many pre-loaded apps by Samsung which I do not really use such as Chat-On, AllSharePlay, etc. Is it possible to remove them?

don't root then. u still have lot of freedom even without rooting. just leave the bloatware apps alone for now. u have enough power still even with those apps lurking around.

I'm trying very hard to learn about Samsung and android since it's a total new thing for me. Maybe one day I'll need your advice in optimizing this fantastic phone.

I just installed Sygic, but after that it requires me to download another 283MB worth of data. When I get disconnected in between it will need to restart all over again.

Is Sygic a really free GPS app? It is free to download from PlayStore but after installing all the stuffs only I realised its a 14-day trials and need to pay after that.

Got pawned.

are u finding the BLG1 version?
*
Eh. After typing *#1234# I noticed there are

AP: I9300XXBLG1
CP : I9300DXLF3
CSC : I9300LBBLF1

So which one is the 'firmware' that we should refer to? What are the meaning of each of the three things here if you dont mind explaining. notworthy.gif

i recommend you to do more reading before doing so.

root is root, vanamlite is custom rom.

both are different thing.
*
Thanks for the info. But I guess when u root, u r actually replacing the current stock ROM with a custom ROM (Wanamlite in this case). So I can either choose to upgrade to the latest BLH1 stock firmware or flash Wanamlite? Please correct me if I'm wrong

for all intents and purposes, stock firmware just works and is good...

HOWEVER thirdparty roms such as the very popular wanamlite, uses the stock rom and modify it as little as possible. They add features, bug fixes/tweaks, and best of all REMOVE BLOATWARE which suck up power and are crapware besides.

If that isn't enough reason to use wanamlite i don't know what else to say  sweat.gif

If you do decide to flash, google the youtube guides which show you exactly what to do step by step. Actually on wanamlite xda forum thread there is a video showing how to install. So carefully watch those before you simply do without doing the necessary info gathering first.

PS: you need to root your phone first, before you can install thirdparty roms. so google how to unroot first.

Is this video from this link good enough for first time rooting? I'm sorry for being noob but would like to try.

yes thats the same video i used my first time. however please remember, you need to root before you can install rom.

i posted a guide in lowyat in this thread a while back.
*
Ok. That means to install a custom ROM, I need to Root + Flash the custom ROM firmware. In that video that means it only provides the 2nd step. Is this the first step if you dont mind looking at?

yes that link guide is correct and the one i'm using.

odin 3 + cf-root =  to do the root.

Supersu = this protects your phone from having it unrooted whenever you upgrade the rom. it also helps you manage access to root which is important to prevent apps from accessing root without first getting your permission to do so. Supersu is usually installed via the cf-root automatically i believe.

CWM is also a recovery app which is also installed from cf-root. CWM is used to boot your phone in recovery mode when you decide to factory reset, clear cache, clear dalvik, install/update rom amongst other things.
*
Ok, let me try to picture everything. The whole process consists of unrooting + flashing a (custom rom).

CWM is something like DFU mode in iOS and in order to unroot, I need to put my device into CWM before using ODIN and CF-root to 'unroot'. In this case I will follow the steps here.

After this is done I will have the root access to my device where I then flash the (custom) ROM that I want (Wanam) and for this I refer to here.

Am I correct?

@chipz

By the way if you are rooting your phone, i think you should be aware of the risks associated with that.

What could be the worst outcome if there is failure during the rooting? Since my phone is still new, there isnt much data inside besides the contact which I have already made a backup of.

In case I screwed up, can I still flash back the custom rom and restore from the backup?

Guys, urgent here. I am trying to root my phone for the first time and it failed in Odin. It says <ID:0/009> Complete(Write) operation failed.

What could possibly gone wrong? My phone is at the screen where there is a green android robot. How can get out of this and back to the normal screen?
