QUOTE(db07mufan @ Aug 13 2012, 09:21 AM) Hey guys small problem, don't know if it has been asked before but i did a search on this thread no avail. i use my samsung galaxy s3 with my unifi 10mbps via my linksys E4200 wifi N router. Yes it has the dual band 5ghz which the S3 supports, but i'm using the 2ghz instead. My router also uses Tomato Toastman firmware.I'm pretty happy with my S3 so far and been vouching it to this friend who wanted to get a phone . He finally got one yesterday and then LOL he can connect to his mobile data, outside wifi but not his house. It shoes connected to wifi but simply refuses to load a webpage, all other devices can surf without a problem. Anyone of you came to know of this issue? Now he's pissed and complaining how crappy android is HAHAA I disable data when i am at home, and instead use the wireleness N from my router to access the internet from using my Unifi. It's faster If i really must use data when outside the home, i think u2mobile is probably the cheapest/best internet data plan for mobile. You pay minimum Rm28 a month and get unlimited internet data usage, but with a small monthly cap which after you have exceeded will throttle your speed, but still good enough to viber/skype, instant message and surf the web. using the app called locale you can automatically enable/disable data and wireless N, for example when i am at home it will disable data and enable wireless N. When i leave home it does the reverse. This saves time having to do it manually. |

QUOTE(alexlimco @ Aug 13 2012, 11:14 AM) I have switched off the % indicator in the status bar and decided to enjoy my S3 to the max without such worries. To be honest, it works far much better and longer than my previous N8, S PLUS, my partner's previous S2 and my wife's current iPorn4. some people are very stingy with their battery that they turn off sync, gps, switch 3g to 2g altogether, and it eats very little power when idle. And that is fine, but your effectively self restricting yourself from using these useful features. Instead i've opted a less aggresive stance and chosen instead to manage these battery hungry apps/services so i can still use some of the ones i regularly use like sync, but manage it so it syncs less frequently. I do this using siyah kernel Stweak and GreenPower app my smartphone is configured/tweaked by me to use automation to remove as many requirements from having to do the changes manually whenever i want to use the features. QUOTE(silrave @ Aug 13 2012, 12:39 PM) haha Well this is my own observations ....o O factory reset, but apps record still have right? i like do this b4 but like whatsapp msg ,sms all still remain correct me if i wrong when i 1. factory reset 2. clear cache 3. clear dalvik then install the wanamlite rom .... i notice that my apps are not installed. so to recover them i needed to use titanium backup to do a recovery. yes there are some left over files on the phone even if you factory reset, such as the titanium backup files. Not to mention some other files on my sd card. if you want to do advance cleaning of those files safely, you may need to use SD Maid pro, and run the system app cleaners etc and carefully examine the list to delete uneeded left over files. Added on August 13, 2012, 12:52 pm QUOTE(Kasumie @ Aug 13 2012, 12:44 PM) Mostly are the stock apps. Esp internet and s memo. . Even facebook in the phone crashed for once. But i rarely use the facebook apps instead. using connection tracker pro, i noticed that facebook app usually contacts it's server quite a bit. so i've deleted that app. besides i've been using friendster pro as a replacement for it, works better besides.Kies does not back up and re store apps ?? but yes if you don't use it, i suggest you just remove it altogether tbh This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Aug 13 2012, 12:52 PM |

QUOTE(Jintex @ Aug 13 2012, 08:27 PM) Thats why , nvr ever buy android phones. Really dumping ur money down the drain. You lose money faster than gambling. You dont lose 800 in 9 days with an iphone! this isn't a matter of an android specific issue as the same applies to other phones i think the correct message here is, don't invest in long term subscription unless you are fully commited as in you 1. won't sell your smartphone in the contracted period 2. you don't plan to upgrade your phone within that period 3. you understand the loss of profit from interest rate of that amount in that same period of time, and is acceptable to you ... in the end it all comes down to being able to make an informed decision without later regretting it, especially when under contractural obligation especially for long periods of time e.g my friend bought an ios 4, and regretted since he was stuck with it for 2 years when he had hoped to sell the phone and get an android instead and the 2nd part is don't upgrade too often especially if you can't afford it, since there will always be something better Added on August 13, 2012, 8:43 pm QUOTE(Kasumie @ Aug 13 2012, 07:31 PM) I dropped my phone for the first time from a shelves at about the height of 1.5m. . But I don't see any scratches. . it's really easy ..... but if your lazy to watch the youtube or read the guides to understand how it works, i don't recommend it.Considering to root my phone but afraid that something went wrong and I dunno how to fix it at then. Instruction seems simple.Ā All the firm ware sounds so confusing to me you'll just end up relying on others excessively to solve a simple issue which you could have easily done yourself if you google the youtube or website guides. i did and i'm benefiting from a rooted s3 Here is a link to get you started http://bit.ly/Qub5B3 This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Aug 13 2012, 08:46 PM |

What is NEW in XXBLG6: - Forward/Backward icon on stock Internet browser. - New Camera Firmware. (Dial *#34971539# checking and update). - 100% confirm completely fixed song playback clicking noise issue. I notice it is more bass and louder now. - Remove Universal search, thanks to crap Apple. But you can simply put back and thanks Wanam putting back this function. - Overall UI is much smoother for me. Recommended update, alone the Song Playback Clicking Noise Fixed is worth the updates already. |

2g consumes less power than 3g, but has lower performance. and the exact opposite for 3g.
go to settings > mobile network > Access Point Names I believe you can toggle 2g/3g there Or better yet use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...e=search_result or this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...e=search_result This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Aug 14 2012, 10:33 PM |

QUOTE(ChipZ @ Aug 14 2012, 10:34 PM) for all intents and purposes, stock firmware just works and is good...HOWEVER thirdparty roms such as the very popular wanamlite, uses the stock rom and modify it as little as possible. They add features, bug fixes/tweaks, and best of all REMOVE BLOATWARE which suck up power and are crapware besides. If that isn't enough reason to use wanamlite i don't know what else to say If you do decide to flash, google the youtube guides which show you exactly what to do step by step. Actually on wanamlite xda forum thread there is a video showing how to install. So carefully watch those before you simply do without doing the necessary info gathering first. PS: you need to root your phone first, before you can install thirdparty roms. so google how to unroot first. This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Aug 14 2012, 10:39 PM |

QUOTE(ChipZ @ Aug 14 2012, 10:44 PM) Is this video from this link good enough for first time rooting? I'm sorry for being noob but would like to try. yes thats the same video i used my first time. however please remember, you need to root before you can install rom.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705866 i posted a guide in lowyat in this thread a while back. I guess i should create a post on my own website later to share with newbs. hard to find where i posted here in lyn. ANyway there are a few methods to root your phone, i recommend using the odin with CF-Root method because that is the easiest and sure fire method of doing it. Here is the guide follow it step by step to root. http://www.jayceooi.com/2012/06/09/how-to-...-cf-root-video/ once done (rooting), only then do you follow the XDA guide to install wanamlite http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705866 This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Aug 14 2012, 10:50 PM |

QUOTE(ChipZ @ Aug 14 2012, 10:49 PM) Ok. That means to install a custom ROM, I need to Root + Flash the custom ROM firmware. In that video that means it only provides the 2nd step. Is this the first step if you dont mind looking at? yes that link guide is correct and the one i'm using.http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how...root-galaxy-s3/ odin 3 + cf-root = to do the root. Supersu = this protects your phone from having it unrooted whenever you upgrade the rom. it also helps you manage access to root which is important to prevent apps from accessing root without first getting your permission to do so. Supersu is usually installed via the cf-root automatically i believe. CWM is also a recovery app which is also installed from cf-root. CWM is used to boot your phone in recovery mode when you decide to factory reset, clear cache, clear dalvik, install/update rom amongst other things. Actually installing a custom rom isn't a pre-requisite to root your phone. I think it's possible to use a rooted phone with the stock firmware. However you would need to be sure supersu is installed or whenever you do OTA firmware updates it will unroot your device. Here are some top reasons why people root their phone http://www.jayceooi.com/2012/06/20/top-rea...sung-galaxy-s3/ This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Aug 14 2012, 10:58 PM |

download these 2 apps. odin3 and cf-root (obviously be sure you get the latest versions of them of course...)
odin3 is installed on your pc. you also need to download and install the official samsung Kies on your pc. then turn off your phone. then press hold the power button + menu button + the bottom part of the volume rocker together to start the phone in data receiver mode. then plug into your pc, and wait for kies to detect the phone. When it's detected, run odin3, and follow the steps in the guide which i believe is to flash the cf-root file using odin3. don't turn off power or unplug during the process or your phone will brick. when all done, your phone is now rooted. I recommend you browse the settings and options of phone to understand how it works before you decide to upgrade rom to Wanamlite. Once done, then download wanamlite zip file, and put onto your S3 e.g. into the download folder. Use airdroid to do this, it's a free android app on googleplay store via your S3. when done, reboot your phone by press holding the top half of the volume rocker + menu button (the middle one) + the power button all simultaneous. Wait until you've booted into the recovery mode before you release the buttons. First thing to do after rooting the phone, but before upgrading to a new rom 1. factory reset 2. clear cache 3. clear dalvik Once done, only then do you select install zip, browse internal sd to the downloader folder, and select the wanamlite version 2.2 zip file. The screen will then say it's installing. when it says reboot, reboot as instructed. during start up it will install the rom. Configure your device etc and your done :} i know reading a bunch of text is confusing, hence please refer to the youtube video guides which pretty much is the same as what i've explained This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Aug 14 2012, 11:20 PM |
