err. why dont you just install handcent, you dont need to use the handcent as primary device, but now when you go to system > sound > choose notification sound, select handcent and it will allow you to choose mp3 as ringtone or notification tone
*
Did you mean this ?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...t.nextsms&hl=en

hm..... does it allow you to select different audio formats other than mp3s ? hmm.gif i tend to prefer aac at minimum. mp3 is already on it's way out.

also is it possible to set the audio for those 2 things with that app, then delete app straight after without losing the changes ? because that app looks horrid shocking.gif

slightly old news but for those who haven't seen yet, the S3 is shown in this youtube clip as an awesome way to make your own home videos.

http://www.androidauthority.com/t-mobiles-...sung-s3-105547/

Sure the 8MP camera isn't as great the ground breaking 41 megapixel Nokia 808 PureView

http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/12/nokia-8...ff-video-chops/

But still the S3 video/camera abilities is more than sufficient to satisfy. You decide yourself :}

These are the official accessories for the S3

But is there an adapter to convert to the ipod socket so i can use with the speaker ? since you seem to be familiar :/

There are about 20,000 malicious Android apps in circulation, says Trend Micro. And about 13 million phones worldwide have been infected, says Chinese security firm NetQin.

A big part of these involve remotely controlling smartphones into sending premium text messages, as well as spamming the phones’ inboxes with junk messages.

QUOTE
The legitimate Opera Mini would only require the following:
-Storage
-Network communication
-Your personal information

However, the OpFake version would also require the following:
-Your messages
-Services that cost you money

In a Fast Company article, Neil Ungerleider says the fact that an app seeks permissions for “phone calls,” “messages” and “services that cost you money” should already raise suspicions of a potential threat. Does a mobile web browser really need to initiate SMS messages and access services that result in carrier charges?

maybe by 2013 we will start seeing quantom dot displays for even richer colors. So there may even be smartphones that would use this technology o.O;

QUOTE
Nanosys is changing the way we see things. Our quantum dot technology creates a visual experience that is truer to reality by enabling LCDs to display over 50% more color than they can today. This means richer, more viscerally alive reds, a deeper palette of greens (the color the human eye sees more intensely than any other color) and vivid blues.

Browsing through photos on a tablet is now more like holding a stack of high quality, professional prints. Watching a movie on a big screen in the living room is more akin to attending a private screening at a Hollywood studio.

Quantum Dot Enhancement Film, or QDEF™, is an optical film component for LCD displays.

Advancements in display technology have given us LCD displays that are smaller, lighter, cheaper and higher resolution than anything previously imagined.  Unfortunately, the industry sacrificed color quality along the way.  Today’s LCDs are only capable of displaying about 72% of the NTSC color standard.

This is a step backwards from old-fashioned CRT displays, which were capable of displaying nearly 100% of the NTSC standard.  With QDEF technology, we are able to restore the color experience of displays, increasing color performance to over 100% of NTSC without sacrificing size, weight, picture quality or cost of the display.

QDEF utilizes proprietary quantum dot phosphors to improve the color performance of the display.  It can be readily inserted into current manufacturing processes as a direct replacement for standard diffuser sheets.

LCD displays with QDEF technology use less energy and cost significantly less than other high performance display technology like OLED.

Nanosys is working with the world’s leading display makers to integrate QDEF into consumer products.

i own apple products so i do believe i know enough about them and have a right to critisize.

for example my ipod classic can't play flac, but my meizu can .... thats enough reason why i dislike apple products due to their tendency for proprietary hardware/software that usually isn't in the best interest of the consumer.

Yes there is rockbox, unfortunately for my model it is barely stable, and this is a third party effort thats taken years after the product was launched, and had received no support from apple.

Android os smartphones offer alot of modability and support from the open source community, so how is the IOS going to match up against that ?

what is custom rom/kernel? seem i am new user for smartphone and s3 is my 1st smartphone. =)
*
rom is like a firmware ... the one i recommend is Wanamlite, google it.

As for kernel, it's another part of software that tweaks the features of the phone like scripts to do with cpu and battery consumption tweaks and other stuff. My recommendation for a custom thirdparty kernel is Siyah, google that as well.

In order to use a custom rom and kernel however, you must first root your phone. There are many youtube guides online explaining how, google it.

Why bother rooting and adding these third party software ? To give you more options and features than the stock offers of course brows.gif If still not convinced, just google for that as well.

i don't understand why some people like covers with flaps ....

it's bad think about it, do you think taking photos or video recordings while holding the flap open is nice ?

protective cover without a flap is more practical doh.gif also then you'd have better access to the camera/video features, and screen.

1tapcleaner doesn't delete those apparently, just the cache and history logs >->;

By the way for anyone interested in using rockbox music player app on the S3 android, you can download it here (not an official site, but this guy actively compiles the apk with the latest builds for it)
http://rasher.dk/rockbox/android/

Of course download this resolution which is the native for the S3
Screen Resolution: 720 x 1280 pixels

The development site for the rockbox android port is here

sometimes when i reinstall apps, it prevents me from doing so because of leftover files.

i was hoping the corpse finder could locate these leftover odex files, but i don't think it did.

so i have to manually search for them myself.

Though i started deleting apps via maid, hoping that it also fully clears all the linked apps including odex, so we will see hmm.gif

This looks like a very nice pc S3 manager
http://www.talkandroid.com/reviews/apps/mo...ne/#more-125886

Looks pretty but can it really win titanium backup Pro ? I'm backing up my android with titanium backup and syncing to my dropbox with encryption.

to recover, i don't need a pc, i can immediately access my titanium backup app from the phone itself, and recover my backup files remotely located on dropbox, and restore. It will also ask for the password to unencrypt.

So as nice looking as moborobo is, it's pretty much just a better looking kies alternative hmm.gif

*update

Actually this moborobo desktop app may actually be useful for moving files between your pc and your phone sdcard.

i can do the same using a combination of dropbox and root explorer, but moborobo may actually simplify by reducing the numbers of steps from transfering the file to your sd card to the correct location hmm.gif

but for backup purposes i may still be relying on scheduled backups using titanium backup pro still.

i think wanam 2.1 is available for download
*
i downloaded wanam 2.1 onto my s3 sdcard/download

then i reboot into recovery, delete to factory, clear cache, clear davik, then install the wanamlite 2.1 zip. when completed i reboot.

I then used moborobo to put the necessary apk such as my backed up titanium backup onto my device.

then i install titanium backup then run it. i use the recovery app+data option, using the image option.

after running a while it will say complete, then prompt me to reboot which i do.

Then now i'm just checking each app 1 by one to make sure they are all working or whether i need to uninstall the problem app and install back again.

once done, then i will go back to recovery and install siyah kernel 1.4 again sweat.gif

is that even necessary? you could just install over the old rom and done

QUOTE(XeactorZ @ Aug 8 2012, 10:38 PM)
just flash over it can already @@
*
to be honest i am not sure, but i do it anyway just to avoid any bugs if they do crop up.

i remember a while back when i was new to flash, i had a bug that didn't go away until i did factory reset/clear cache/clear dalvik before re-flashing the rom.

so since then whenever i update rom, i always do that flex.gif

*update

only 1 app which was quirky to begin with, i had to reinstall.

avast worked, but i had to redo the setup for installing it back into root. But at least my pin was retained so i wasn't locked out when i tried to access avast settings to configure hmm.gif

i got so many app recommendations .... i will make a post on my site later doh.gif

For now i got a minimal list of stuff i recommend doing

http://mognet.no-ip.info/wordpress/2012/08...y-s-iii-review/

1. root = strongly recommended

2. install a custom rom. my recommendation is wanamlite although you are free to pick a different rom e.g. cm10 or whichever you prefer

3. install a custom kernel. my recommendation is siyah's because it's a good performer based on the performance charts. this is totally optional, although i don't see why you wouldn't want to use it nod.gif

I just got my S3 this week with minimal apps. However, the RAM is always high...sometimes 600+mb out of 700+mb. Anyone facing the same issue?

If it exceeds the max RAM, it would "blackout" and restart the phone.

my s3 hasn't done that yet .... i'm using easy task killer and it seems to be keeping things under control hmm.gif
