By the way if you are rooting your phone, i think you should be aware of the risks associated with that.

QUOTE
Description
Exploit/MempoDroid.B is an exploit to get root privileges on Android devices with Linux kernel 2.6.39 or above.

Indication of Infection
Exploit a privilege escalation vulnerability in a memory management component of the Linux kernel

Methods of Infection
This exploit requires that the user intentionally copy the Exploit/MempoDroid.B native binary in the device and execute it with the required parameters. Users should not install rooting tools from unknown sources.

So in layman terms, because your phone is now rooted, hackers can attack your android by tricking you into downloading an android app also known as APK files, which are original apks bundiled together with the mempodroid binary file, which will then be stored on your android phone.

The hacker will then have access to your android device shocking.gif

As scary as that sounds, i still use a rooted phone. But knowing the risks, i am always on the look out for even hints my android has been compromised.

So make you take the necessary precaution and install Avast mobile security at bare minimum in order to protect your android root smartphone from stuff like this icon_rolleyes.gif

What could be the worst outcome if there is failure during the rooting? Since my phone is still new, there isnt much data inside besides the contact which I have already made a backup of.

In case I screwed up, can I still flash back the custom rom and restore from the backup?

Well this fella bricked his phone, but he managed to unbrick it using odin
http://ask.metafilter.com/218940/Bricked-m...msung-Galaxy-S3

So it's pretty much reversible, but i still wouldn't go out of my way to intentionally brick the phone on purpose.

The only time the phone has a chance to be bricked, is if you cut off power during the flashing process when using Odin3 to flash cf-root.

Also the same applies when in mid process of flashing rom as well.

Hi all.

Sorry for in this question seems a little dumb but how can I transfer pictures taken on my S3 to my laptop?
Can I just use the cable without installing kies?

Any method to quick transfer photos on the phone to a laptop or computer?
*
very simple, use airdroid
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...e=search_result

start up airdroid, and point it facing your pc monitor screen on the webpage you got open at
http://web.airdroid.com/

Take a camera shot using airdroid of the QR Code image, and it will grant your PC direct access to your android phone via wireless.

Then using that web.airdroid web page, you can then click on pictures, and download the pictures onto your pc. you can also upload from pc to your android as well

nod.gif

dropbox is an alternative method, but i prefer using airdroid for ease of use of moving files about. I still use dropbox still, so it's not completely obsolete as it's a good app for offloading your backup files in case you lose data on your phone and need to recover the data back again. My titanium backup files are synced to my dropbox which is encrypted nod.gif

i use tons of apps, but with a task killer. my 1gb ram is usually 60-80% used.

so a 2gb ram would be awesome biggrin.gif

I'm not regreting my S3 purchase, just saying that i do see the benefit of the 1gb vs 2gb ram difference doh.gif If you google it up other people have done the comparison and noticed the difference.

Greeting from Australia. Finally i own a S3 with telstra! Hah it really is amazing, especially when u're migrating from blackberry. Got myself 16GB i9300T, still reading on root n might be to silence the shutter sound.

Now anyone knows a great apps that records ur spending? Oh n recommend me some photo editor too. Prefer free version.
Well it is a good spec, but i cant negotiate with the size form of note2. Would get an actual tablet.
*
reading that xda link about ram swap, has only further enlightened me that 2gb ram does make a nice difference shocking.gif

so yes i would love 2gb ram *drool

Although technologically/logically 2gb > 1gb, but for the average joe like myself, you can still use the Samsung Galaxy S3 for multi tasking even with just 1gb and not really notice (unless you had a 2gb ram model beside you to compare rolleyes.gif like the south korean model in particular )

I got tons of apps, but because i manage them so well using tools such as...

1. supersu
2. busybox pro
3. titanium backup
4. sd maid pro
5. easy task killer
6. adaway
7. avast mobile security
8. 1tap cache cleaner
9. greenpower premium
10 betterybatterystats
11. connection tracker pro
12. ad network detector
13. wanamlite rom
14. siyah kernel with Stweaks

amongst other things... i can keep battery power, memory usage as low as possible by removing adware, and ensuring non essential traffic or app activity is working in the background.

not if you use OTA Rootkeeper, or Supersu which protects your device from being unrooted whenever updating via OTA rolleyes.gif

For sygic, its better once you exit it, go to application manager and force stop it. and turn off gps at notification slider.
if vanam want to update to latest firmware need wait a few days . or you can download stock firmware from sammobile and flash it over vanam.

not sure about swype.
fast tapping on swiftkey 3 is much exciting icon_rolleyes.gif  and faster

i prefer waze compared to sygic, simply because
1. it's cute
2. it's social power nod.gif

1. waze u use awhile only no more battery.
2. waze can't work out of town.
3. waze is for fun. sygic means business.
*
eh really ? it uses lots of battery ? shocking.gif i did not know this ... i will watch my battery stats carefully.

but i do agree waze is more for fun.

I tried cygic and it's accurate, but i didn't feel it was as user friendly to use compared to waze.

waze map is totally social based meaning the roads are only recorded via cars with waze enabled that travel along them. Whereas Cygic got their maps via their own research. So there is no question there which is more accurate.

But for non business friendly usage, waze is cool to use.

I question however cygic vs waze in terms of reporting cameras, traffic conditions, and accidents on the road. This is one area i feel waze may actually be better hmm.gif

in terms of privacy, cygic wins, because you don't have to disclose your location to others, whereas Waze you do since this is the whole idea on who Waze works. Waze could be problematic if your on someones hit list as you don't want them to know where you are, which is why i use an alias for my Waze and turn it off when i'm at home sweat.gif

hi guys..
did u install an antivirus application in ur S3?
is it need to install that application?
*
my avast mobile security detected 2 virus apks which it helped me to delete/clean.

so my answer is yes, install anti virus/spyware ap.

adway is also good to block apps from spaming your push notifications with ads as well.

Hey Moogle Stilzkin,

I have just rooted my phone this evening and am now preparing to flash Wanamlite 2.4. Can I skip the backup part using Titanium since I have already backed up my contacts and pictures using Kies?
*
hm.... i never used kies to restore backup, so i rather not comment on what i don't know.

titanium backup is the most sure fire way to restore your contacts/settings/pictures/apps .... that is the only backup i would ever recommend nod.gif

because this is your first time migrating from samsung original firmware to thirdparty wanamlite rom, i recommend that when your in the recovery menu that you

1. factory reset
2. clear cache
3. clear dalvik

once done then you install zip from internal sd, the wanamlite rom zip file.

Of course before doing any of this, a backup is recommended using titanium backup especially if you need to redo many settings like wifi connection, etc etc...

If you only want to backup pictures, you can temporary transfer them to your dropbox, or use airdroid. but then that leaves the question of how to backup your contacts ? This is why it's simple just to use titanium backup >->;

Is Titanium a cloud-based app as in after I flash Wanamlite, it will still be there after I flash my ROM right? Also, do you mind explaining more about the loading the wanamlite file using airdroid?

QUOTE
i. How to make your first backup

Verify that Titanium Backup has started without warning and that your busybox is OK
Click the Backup/Restore tab
Click Menu (the button), Batch
Click “Backup all user apps” (if you want just your apps) or “Backup all user apps + system data” if you want everything backed up. This doesn’t seem to always backup SMS and contact history.
Let it run, then go back to the main backup tab.
Individually backup the system data you want. That is most green-colored items. This will be bookmarks, call log, calendar, launcher, WiFi, etc.
Now your backups are in the “TitaniumBackup” directory on your SD card.

i strongly suggest you only backup the least amount of stuff possible (for your first time when migrating from stock to wanamlite), so that you don't accidentally restore bloatware from backup onto your device after installing wanamlite.

So just only backup your phone settings (wifi, etc etc...), contacts, sms/call logs, your photos.

so anyway after you upgrade to wanamlite, first thing you do is reinstall back titanium backup via googlestore. (don't worry apparently the factory reset does not wipe the backed up files by titanium backup located on your internal SD)

then use the recovery option to restore your backup :} All done.

the backups are stored on your internal SD by default. Although there is an option to sync this backup folder to dropbox if you wish, but this is only available for the Pro version of the app. My dropbox titanium backup is encrypted in case dropbox account got hacked sweat.gif

You can read the titanium backup user guide here if you are still confused
