Thanks @ aeiou228. The OCBC junior saving account looks better than Public Bank. The Affin bank 3.6% is not saving account, but FD. Sorry for not elaborate clearly.

QUOTE(codeiki @ Oct 30 2012, 01:32 AM) I did the same thing like what bearbear did. Money saved is the "real amount" of money earned. Whenever I have extra cash, i will put in FD online. If there is any investment, then i will take out those just matured FD and transfer online. Banks that offer online FD (can deposit and withdraw) CIMB, Maybank ? OCBC Banks that's not (either you cannot deposit or can deposit but cannot withdraw online) Hong leong, Public bank The online FD is really convenience for me too. I usually put my money via online FD (Maybank), save my time. When accumulate until big amount, i.e, > RM 50k, then i transfer to Affin bank for 12 months. 3.6%. Tired to go for those promotion with restriction, i.e, must maintain how much in saving account,, rate for 3 months only, blablababla......

QUOTE(gsc @ Nov 20 2012, 01:02 PM) Saw the news earlier and I did mentioned in this forum, MBSB planned to become a bank next year as they are tyrying to fulfill the banking criteria. The new rate is very attractive for 6 and 9 months. Guess this is the highest at this moment for 6 and 9 months whereas ocbc saving combo is giving around 3.8% for 3 months. Correct me if I am wrong 3 months -ocbc 6 and 9 months mbsb 12 months - mbsb or BR just came back from BR (Penang), the officer said that no additional 0.05% although deposit more than RM 50k. The free gift that they give is only a bag. Anyhow, i will put in the money in BR next week when my FD with Maybank is matured.

QUOTE(magika @ Nov 20 2012, 02:00 PM) Why not you called to nego ? Quite a few of us has the 4.11%. Mine on 19 November 2012. Got Parker Pen, Manicure Set, Shoe Bag. Maybe the total sum deposited does influence the additional rate. Actually i was waiting my wife for lunch and the BR just next to it. So i walked in to BR and the officer wasn't around. I called up to enquire the rate and telling her i have RM 50k for FD. She told me 12 months 4.05% and no additional %. Free gift only bag (shoe bag i think). I wanted to ask if i deposit RM 100k, would i get the additional %, but i didn;t ask because i don't have RM 100k for now :-)

QUOTE(im.thetrader @ Nov 21 2012, 07:42 AM) For my point of view Unit Trust is one kind of low risk and high return investment, i would say as liquid as FD because only a week to withdraw~ but a lot people think that unit trust can't generate a lot profit personally i think the main reason is the which agent you get advice from. Not to say all, some of the agents they just want to close the deal do the business, cincai cincai introduce any fund to aunty uncle, invest in lumpsum. If you dig into more details in unit trust, you will find that quite a numbers of fund giving more than 40% over 3 years or more than 10% in one year. If you clever enough to do switching, i believe even more return. The other tools may be saving account like Hong Leong Income building, deposit RM25k per year for 6 years, will get RM6.5k every year for 30 years. and the risk to me is near 0~ It just a lot of people don't know there is actually such a good investment tools. correct me if im wrong~ Thanks for sharing. But you did not highlight that certain unit trust (Public China series unit trust) that did not provide any dividend at all in the past few years. And worst is that the current price is far below than the initial offer price.

QUOTE(im.thetrader @ Nov 21 2012, 11:10 AM) Do you mind to tell me how much you will get if deposit 150k in FD for 30 years? Added on November 21, 2012, 11:11 amCalm down man, it just my point of view : ) Added on November 21, 2012, 11:13 amYa some of the fund is not performing, may be you should dig into who is the fund manager of that fund. I do know some of the fund that give 40++% return in 3 years. Well investment not sure win ma, if you want to be 100% safe, FD lo~ That's the point. Usually agent just portray the performing fund, but eliminate those under performed. If i pay for the 5% service charge but still need to find out who's the fund manager, his portfolio, track record, it doesn't sounds right, right?. For me, the fund in FD is my 6-9 months contingency fund. We just want to get the best interest from it while the money is protected. No offence, it just my own opinion. I used to be a unit trust agent as well

QUOTE(gsc @ Dec 24 2012, 02:02 AM) I didnt ask the detail. I saw the notice on the counter at Sg. Nibong Penang branch. It just stated effective 19 Nov 2012, RM50 will be charged for RM10,000 cash deposit. I guessed the branch is encouraging cashless transaction and probably applies to all transactions. The bank is getting from bad to worse. Last 2 mths they did not credit interest to my wise account which bearing 3% monthly interest. I called up and they said system recorded wrong account type.they took more than a week to credit the interest back to my acc. If i did not check, what happen then? Thinking to move all my fund to other bank then, thought it did not bother them at all.

QUOTE(gsc @ Dec 26 2012, 02:18 AM) Since I am shopping around for my FD which will be due this month,I share the following summary on FD rate which I have compared. I have excluded BR as I dont have intention to place FD there. 3 monthsOCBC premier -5% (plse refer to OCBC website or 1st page for detail t & c) HSBC premier - 4.42% (plse refer to HSBC website for detail) OCBC saving combo -4% (effective 3.8% -20%FD has to be kept at smart saver at 2.9%) UOB - 3.5% 6 monthsMBSB - 3.8% 9 monthMBSB - 3.9% UOB - 3.65% 12 monthsMBSB - 4.05% Looks like the rate is getting lower, I locked in UOB for 9 months and also selected OCBC saving combo for 3 months. I ignore MBSB for this year and may look at it again in Jan. Btw, just found out UOB premier requirement is RM500k. Wonder what are the advantages it has over other banks MBSB and BR, both not under PIDM, which one is safer?? Added on December 26, 2012, 2:16 pmi went to BR this afternoon, asked the rate for placing RM 70k for 6 months. The rate is 3.75%. Free gifts are shoe bag and car boot organiser. Will put my money in Affin 4-month deposit (3.63%) next Monday with a new Affin Gold Saving Acc (2.85%). After 4-mths, if no any other better FD promotion, then just renew at Affin for 12-month @ 3.6%. Ocbc & UOB too far and not really convenient.
Added on December 27, 2012, 4:29 pmoh yeah, will deposit another small money in CIMB e-FD for 3 monthly basis. just in case need to use money for unforeseen matter. Convenient too.

QUOTE(magika @ Dec 27 2012, 04:57 PM) From discussion with some friends, the general consensus is that quite a number are interested in EPF voluntary contribution and 1 Malaysian Retirement Scheme. Gone are the days where people fear for fund safety, maybe due also to the Mayan debacle..ha..haa. EPF have given quite good returns lately that are more than competitive to banks FD rates. I would think that these schemes would attract most contributors middle age and above as the most feared is the withdrawal age clause. Added on December 27, 2012, 5:04 pmMost of the time I would deposit in e-FD until reach a sum of 50k , then only would place it out to better rates FD, or timed to reach maturity dates of my current FD. agreed. I m putting 50k on affin and another 20k on cimb e-fd. Thanks for sharing. Added on December 27, 2012, 11:37 pmQUOTE(Chris 9883 @ Dec 27 2012, 09:52 PM) Hold till next wednesday 02/01/2013 , wait for OCBC Promotion Received call from Ocbc RM, new FD combo, higher interest then current ending 31/12. Thanks for the info. The affin 4-month promotion will end on next tuesday. Ocbc a little inconvenient due to its location. If really a good deal then after the affin 4-month mature in april will switch all fund to ocbc. Thanks again. This post has been edited by jacklew77: Dec 27 2012, 11:37 PM
