called BR this morning:

me: is your bank open for lunch time today?
BR: Sir, We close during lunch time on Friday. From 12.45-2.30pm. What can i help?
me: i want to place RM 20k, 3-month FD with BR. What's the rate?
BR: Sir, it is 3.65% p.a.
me: Do i need to open any saving account for the FD?
BR: Unless you are putting more than 6 months, then you need a saving account for monthly interest crediting.
me: Is there any free gift given ?
BR: errr....the gift we have now is only suitable for kids. Sir, do you have kids?
me: Yes, i have three kids.
BR: O then we can give you school bags.
me: Will i get the FD cert, on the spot?
BR: If you are using cash or banker's check, you can get the cert on the spot. But is you are using personal check, then you can only collect the cert after the check cleared in two days time.
me: The rate negotiable?
BR: Sir, for 20k and 3-month, we can only give 3.65%.
me: Ok, i will visit your bank before 12.45pm for the FD placement.
BR: Thank you.

Thanks ! Interesting dialogue !

Received call from BR. Asking me to collect hampers from them. Asked for 2 as I have 2 accounts there. However they do not have any CNY dinner for Penang side. Early March organizing a high tea and I will be invited.

I also gave a proposal for further FD deposit and asked for higher rate. Ha ha, lets see if I can get the higher rate. They will let me know later as it needs division and HQ approval.

Thanks for replying. I called to OCBC helpline this afternoon. Fresh fund is required for this 3 months FD promotion.

You can switch your fund to another bank's FD promotion after 3 months in OCBC.

There is no charge for Smart Saver if you do not deposit any money in your Smart Saver account, but you will get
0.5% of interest in your Smart Saver account.

here is OCBC's Smart Saver interest table:    [attachmentid=3290681]
*
SS account 0.5% if you withdraw from the account. If you top up RM 50, interest rate is 2.75%

it works this way, say 120k:
100k in actual fd for 4.18%, 12mths
20k in savings, rate... if kid's account, not bad. but never mind, assmune zero! this is earmarked, untouchable for 4 months.
so, for 1st 4 mths, int for the total 120k is actually only 4.18*100/120=3.483%.
for the next 8 mths you can withdraw or redeposit at whatever is available at that time with the 20k, the remaining 100k earns 4.18% p.a.
for at least the 100k, the average int for the 12 mths wud be 3.483*1/3+4.18*2/3=3.95%.
so, effective rate is >3.95%.

the nice thing about this promo is the monthly int is credited to the savings a/c, you can withdraw.
branches are plenty, service is fine, good for me.

the mach promo is only for some branches.

there is another one "4.28%" but is a step up, effective not as good as the "4.18%".

my last visit to hlb, the 4.18 is still not filled yet. also, if >200k, you get a small goldplated "tree" worth a few hundred rm.

This is the 4.18% that I mentioned about. The 4.28 is a step up.

You are right. I already asked the OCBC customer service in the bank last time.

As long as deposit (top-up) RM 1K during any day of the month, the principle money will get 2.9% for whole month in Smart Saver account.

For example: if deposit RM 1K in 15th of the month, the principle amount will get 2.9% for the whole month; whereas
the RM 1K top-up will get 2.9% but calculates from 15th until the end of the month.

Another example: if I have RM 10K in my Smart Saver, if I deposit (top-up) RM 1K during 15th of the month, my RM 10K
will get 2.9% p.a. for the whole month; but the RM1K top-up will get 2.9% also but will calculate this 2.9% interest from 15th
until the end of the month.

Hope nothing happened to him, especially hope its not because of something that was related to his blog or postings. Maybe keeping a low profile or migrated?

Are you going to deposit the check from OCBC to another bank (let's say bank V)?
Then get the check from bank V and deposit it back to OCBC for Bonus Saver?

Or you use the IBG technique? biggrin.gif

Closed the account? Does this mean you will entitle to 2.9% rate for new opening of bonus saver. My money has been rolled and kept there since 2013, thinking of taking out but I plan to open bonus saver account next week to "renew" my FD which is going to mature.

If like this, how many days of interest you are going too lose? Including this weekend without interest leh...

If I were you, I would probably take the OCBC check straight to KFH for 6 months at 3.88%, and KFH pays advance interest..
