If you want high returns of >4% treat it like an FD account with no withdrawal. At least it also gives you the benefit of withdrawal but with less interest.

Added on November 4, 2012, 9:35 am
Didn't request for chequebook for my newly open PMA-i account too cos have an existing MBB CA.
Tbheng just want to reconfirm with u, once the Pma-i has balance of >rm50k brought forward from Oct2012, any amount deposit in Nov and Dec (assuming no withdrawal for this period) will also enjoy the 2.75%+2% right?
*
That's right. Unless MBB says cheque clearance is not consider as withdrawals. Which I doubt so.

From memory, I think when one withdraws an FD before its maturity date, whether one gets no interest or a partial interest depends on the duration the FD has been active.

E.g., a 1 year FD at 4% p.a., one withdraws it after 8 months, I think one is still entitled to y% x principal x 8/12 where y will be less than 4.

Of course, we want the full interest but in case one needs to terminate it before the maturity date, check this partial interest with the bank and hopefully one will get some $$ interest.

My 2 cents.

Maybank FD promos always ends earlier and I think the reason is because it is also opened to companies and as such the targeted deposit amount is reached quicker.

Anyone knows if UOB 3 mth FD tenure of 3.65% is still effective in Nov?
*
No. It was revised to 3.6% and ended in Oct 31. Don't think there'll be any new promotions until the next Bank Negara Monetary meeting on the 8th.

Max RM100K and RM10K for NEW Premier and Advance Customers only, which means the other half going to earn one of the lowest board rates in town.

Moreover, opening HSBC Premier account to play FD Musical Chair is a waste time. You have to maintain RM200K at all times or else you have to pay monthly penalty fee AND HSBC FD promos always for new Customers only. Which means they do not offer promos to existing customers with Fresh Funds. So after the promo, your RM200K is going to earn you less by RM1K at the very least every year. If compare to BR's 12 month's rate, that's RM2K every year!

So far, I notice for HSBC, it is better to be an Advance customer instead of Premier customer (in term of FD returns).
Anyway, the effective rate for this round is ~ 3.85% p.a. Not so attractive.

Bro, click here to FD V2 Thread and do a search on MBSB and you can read our previous comments on MBSB.

To All, posted below at CC section, maybe some of you here can also benefit from my story sweat.gif

I wanted to open a Maybank Basic Savings Account which earns nominal interest rates but was recommended against doing so. Instead the Maybank Exec recommended that I opened a Normal Savings Account for my purpose of linking all my Maybank Credit Cards to it in order for me to make payments online via Maybank2U. It seems that the Maybank Basic Savings Account cannot be linked to my Maybank Credit Cards at M2U rclxub.gif

For those of you who uses Maybank2U to pay your credit card bills, utilities bills, Local Council Assessments/Taxes and etc, you should look into getting the Maybank2U Savers Account (if you have not) because it earns you interest daily and credited into the account monthly.

Click below link to read my story of My New Maybankard Platinum MasterCard Debit Card and Maybank2U Savers. And maybe you can earn some extra money after reading it smile.gif

So coming back to OCBC 5% 3 Months 50% AUM for NEW Premier Account, if you wife has yet to sign up for PB status, she is eligible for the promo when she applies for BP status.

Trick is - you and your spouse should never apply for PB status at the same time to enjoy the same promo for the same fund. For example, if promo is good for RM200K, and you have RM400K split it to 2 accounts i.e. 1 account you name first and the second accut your spouse name.
*
Dont quite understand why split rm400k into two accounts?
If the husband or wife open the account with full rm400k, he or she will enjoy the 5% promo rate. After three months, husband or wife opened another joint account using the same RM 400k. Wont it be better off?

Just now opened joint premier account. Three products are required, smart saver and easi-save are considered as same category of saving account. Thus a person cant have the combination of FD, smart saver and saving account to be considered as three products. Instead a person can open islamic saving account which is considered as different catergory from smart saver.

Combination of FD, smart saver (rm20 to open account) and islamic saving account (also another rm20 to open account). The islamic FD which offered at 4% earlier is no longer available.

A travelling bag is given as a gift. The quality of the bag is not that good compared to last time when I got it from Hong Leong bank - a polo travelling bag with wheels

Bro, you are right, the Advance offer of up to RM50K deposit to earn 5% is better.

I just finish burning up some of my brain cells trying to figure out this HSBC 5% Term Deposit-i Drive Promotions for Premier Account holders.

One of the condition is that we must deposit 30% into Premier Account-i or Advance Account-i which pays miserable interest rate.

Click on link below to read my article on the HSBC Deposit Drive Promo where I touched on the T&C and calculated that the maximum effective interest rate for Premier Account is only 3.627%!!!

Bro, read carefully, the example was for promo good for RM200K only. And Unless you can read the future, how you know you will be getting 5% after the promo ends?

The Maybank Exec is only half-true.....
I had a Kawanku Savings Account (aka normal type) which is linked to CC + other Maybank CASA...with logon ABC (with Kawanku as Primary Account to link M2U)
When I open the Maybank Basic Savings Account, this account had to become the Primary Account link to M2U.
Thus I asked Maybank (at the same time) to link all "other accounts : CASA + CC" to my new M2U logon DEF.
A new ATM Debit Card was issued (my old card's EMV chip was rusty) @ RM12

I read about it but I want to know if anyone has put their money in MBSB before? How does it work?

Do they accept banker's cheque?
How do we withdraw FD from MBSB? Do they issue a cheque? Is the cheque accepted by other banks ? Any charges for their Cheque? How many days to clear?
