as a PCM2704 user, this is very tempting for me, but yeah, comparing those two would be like.. different league--beast

how can a single chip dac without any caps component would fair against any current dac in market? i hope you can join AudioTechnica gathering this weekend hmm.gif

Hi, for your understanding, the caps on the 2704 is used to decouple the DC in the output signal. Most of the graded products had their center point at zero potential, which no longer needing the decoupling capacitors. There is no fair or unfair to compete each other on design/components used , as long as they are in the same price range. biggrin.gif

Here's a quick and brief review about ESS9023(compared to 2704, well, it's not fair to compare between them as like as TS said they are in 'different league', but since alot of ppl interested to know the differrence, well here it is.....).

Testing equipments
Speaker 1: Logitech Z2300 playing from PC
Speaker 2: Paradigm monitor playing from PC thru marantz amp (pure direct enabled)

1. Emi Fujita's Fields of Gold flac, 9023 sounded wider and sharper. Yes, you can definitely hear the differrence, it's quite obvious right after I switched from 2704 to 9023. Bass is deeper but not at annoying level (i don't like boomy bass).

2. Tsai Chin's Take care tonight flac, 9023 sounded more neutral and better vocal. Medium freq not much differrence.

3. Ronan Hardiman's Heaven, again sounded awesome but I hv to lower the bass setting compared the above songs. Too boomy for me.

IMO, this little DAC is worth the money and definitely worth of the quality.

I bought an 2704 from you last time (before the big issue).
So I can consider this as an upgrade lah?

I intend to use this with iPad --> Camera Connection Kit --> chchyong89's UD100 (will add battery/power if required).
You reckon it'll work?
*Poor man's portable audiophilia setup.

Headphones and earbuds.
Might also give it a shot on my parents' el-cheapo speakers & T-amp. Hah hah!

Thinking about DIY'ing O2 amp and Bijou when the money ain't so tight. =)
How would you rate UD100 vs ODAC (which is also based on ESS9023)?

Will this work?
Mac Mini --> UD100 --> headphones (without amp)

I'll bite the bullet and buy it. PM transaction details, bro!
