I never knew that Persona car keys and remote can be so darn expensive. Considering the age and price-point, I didn't know there was a built-in immobilizer (however you spell it). It was the first batch with IAFM. Well, I guess that's more than 5 years old.

So I went to the keyshop and was quoted RM180. That's already expensive enough. To top that, the locksmith said that it can only open the doors and not start the engine. So what's the point? Feeling puzzled, I went to a locksmith in Putrajaya who quoted me RM250 which can open the door AND start the engine. And the shop owner is kind enough to explain in detail why it cost more than a normal remote. Even took apart the key to show me the components.

To avoid risk of accidentally locking myself, I agreed. Now, to think about it, it's not too expensive considering the amount of work. It's not just duplicating the metal part and matching the remote frequency. The locksmith had to plug a console cable on my car and perform some reconfiguration.

Moral of the story - Don't lose your car keys!

make sure change before warranty ends. it is not the knob. is the whole console. XD
when it is old, it become loose. then change new, the turning very tight. nice

yeah.. but postage will lain kira lah.. hehe.. Normally cost Rm20 based on previous experience..
But Eneos not suitable for our engine.. Unknownhammie used it for around 20k km ady.. The engine oil too thin, ended up it cant lubricate the tappet properly and have a lot of problem. After changing to different engine oil only the tappet problem got solved.
